In the 60s there were a lot of these types of shows: Mayberry RFD, Julia, Room 222, Courtship of Eddie's Father, Ghost and Mrs Muir, My Three Sons and others- they weren't shows that would make you fall out of the chair laughing at any of the jokes but there was a pleasantness about them, dare i say they were uplifting in a sense and had interesting plots and therefore they were entertaining but not really "funny". Andy Griffith Show could also fall into this category.
Is there any modern show like this that is not really funny as such but has a pleasant quality to it? Today's humor shows all seem to have this sort of snide sarcastic humor about them or the jokes are very in your face. The only shows that come to mind are Monk and 7th Heaven and the humor in 7th Heaven seems very unsophisticated and contrived to me, like the scripts were written by a high school student. I guess those older shows are from another era when viewers were more naive. Now everything is so in your face though it is boring. |

Monk has made me burst out laughing on more than one occasion. Quite a funny show. Some of the humor is subtle but occasionally there is a gut-buster.
A few seasons ago 7th Heaven was really amusing as well. Witty at times, funny at times, it has since just gotten bogged down in drama. I cannot think of any shows currently on the air that are entertainingly pleasant but not amusing. |

I cant think of anything modern right now,but when i think of entertaining shows that aren't that funny but are still ok to watch,i think of the Munsters. It wasn't fall out of your chair laughing, but it was amusing and interesting,so it was still a great show.

I know what you're talking about.Once Michelle got on my nerves,it wasn't funny because it was her cuteness that was amusing most of the time.Still the show was good. What IS funny about Full House now is the opening of the show, with the actors in front of 80's backdrops of boats on a river.Thats pretty funny, and lol,'BOB SAGET!'

Who's the Boss Cosby Show Maude Happy Days |

Everybody Loves Raymond... I've never laughed once... it seems really juvenile and "heard it/seen it all before". I always wonder how it wins all those awards!

For me, it's mainly family sitcoms from the late 1950s and early 1960s, like "Donna Reed," "Father Knows Best," and "Ozzie and Harriet." I love watching them, but I don't fall down laughing. I love them more for the plots and characters than for the jokes.

Though all I've seen is Ozzie and Harriett. Good way to waste a half hour, but I'm not going to bust a gut. |
