RE: American versus British sitcoms.

American TV producer tells John Cleese that a company he is involved with have bought the rights to Fawlty Towers and are going to re make it for US TV.
John Cleese is delighted as other variations of the show have not worked in America.
American TV producer is equally enthusiastic saying that the only change they intend to make is to leave out the Basil character!!
John Cleese is completely floored!!
Enough said really!!!

Antenna TV, MeTV, Decades, Laff, and Cozi TV, please add Dave's World and The John Larroquette Show to your lineups. Thank you.

PLEASE release a complete series boxset of The John Larroquette Show (and the final season of Dave's World). Thanks.

Yes, John Cleese told the story himself.

American networks are so desperate for ideas they'll take half-a-dozen tries at remaking a British show, with any number of ridiculous changes just to try sell it

I disagree with this sentiment. Both countries have their spectacular programs and then there are the complete duds. Cant really compare the two. Id take something like Red Dwarf or the IT Crowd over Two and a Half Men or Big Bang Theory any day of the week.
