Default Human Centipede 2 DVD Date, Art Revealed

Satire or sloppy filmmaking seconds? Whatever your opinion is of The Human Centipede II: Full Sequence, Tom Six's film got people talking (again) and, for a filmmaker, that's a good thing (well, that, and box office bucks). Now the sequel is heading to DVD, courtesy of IFC Midnight.

In the film, Martin is a mentally disturbed loner who lives with his mother in a bleak housing project. He works the night shift as a security guard in an equally grim and foreboding underground parking complex. To escape his dreary existence, Martin loses himself in the fantasy world of the cult horror film The Human Centipede (First Sequence)], fetishizing the meticulous surgical skills of the gifted Dr. Heiter, whose knowledge of the human gastrointestinal system inspires Martin to attempt the unthinkable.

According to the Amazon listing for the film, The Human Centipede II: Full Sequence is expected to hit DVD and Blu-ray on February 14. Aw, just in time for Valentine's Day. Expect an official announcement to go out soon with full specs.

Default Olaf Ittenbach's Burning Moon is Coming to DVD

Intervision Picture Corp. is prepping the Special Edition DVD release of Olaf Ittenbach's gorefest The Burning Moon - splatter-soaked, German nihilism shot on VHS in the' 90s and packaged, for the first time with a rare, recently unearthed, 45 minute bonus making-of documentary.

In 1992, writer/director/special effects master Olaf Ittenbach changed the face of video horror, force-fed its ripped-out eyeballs to screaming audiences, then used a drill, machete and shotgun on its still-twitching torso: Ittenbach himself stars as a degenerate junkie who babysits his young sister with two bedtime stories of the damned.

First, an escaped serial killer turns date night into a graphic family massacre. Then a country priest on a rape and murder spree leads to a disturbingly explicit descent into Hell. It became the VHS that shocked America. It has been banned in its Motherland for nearly 20 years. And it remains perhaps the most violent and depraved shot-on-video saga in history.

Intervision Picture Corp was formed in 2010 to bring a perverse underbelly of cinema from a universe of its own to DVD. So far releases have included bizarre shot-on-VHS Sledgehammer and Things, Jess Franco's latest Paula-Paula and Ozsploitation oddities Australia After Dark and The ABCs of Love & Sex.

Intervision releases are produced by Severin Films and distributed by CAV.

Default Blu-ray: Lionsgate to Release 3-Disc Mimic Collection

Now that Mimic has been released on Blu-ray in a collector's edition, Lionsgate is ready to roll out the sequels on Blu. But not as separate releases. You'll have to buy a 3-disc film set to get the series in its entirety. Here are the official details from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.

Audiences will experience thrills and chills from the franchise that brought the epic battle of man and nature to life as Lionsgate debuts the Mimic: 3-Film Set on Blu-ray Disc this May. Available for the first time as an HD collection, the set includes Mimic: The Director's Cut, along with Mimic 2 and Mimic 3: Sentinel - both on Blu-ray Disc for the first time and available exclusively in the set. Telling the complete story of one deadly genetic engineering experiment, each film includes a host of special features, certain to excite and terrify fans of the sci-fi series. A collection housing all three of the original film versions will be available on DVD at the same time, for the suggested retail price of $19.98.

Default Sleepaway Camp IV Hitting DVD Next Week

Next week, a chapter in the SLEEPAWAY CAMP franchise history comes to a close as the world will finally see the release of SLEEPAWAY CAMP IV: THE SURVIVOR* on DVD. John Klyza, editor of, and the mad mind behind the 2002 SLEEPAWAY CAMP "Survival Kit" DVD set from Anchor Bay, have been slaving over Part IV for a decade. The core footage for the third sequel was included as a bonus disc in the Survival Kit set, where it was exhibited in raw form, but Klyza and director Jim Markovic had grander plans for developing it into a full fledged film. Before heading to next week to order up a copy, enjoy our chat with Klyza about his monstrous creation, the culmination of years of determined work born out of a dedication to Angela fans who have been patiently waiting for THE SURVIVOR to come to fruition. In addition, you will find a never-before-seen shot from the production of SLEEPAWAY CAMP IV, and the DVD cover art.

FANGORIA: How did you find the part IV production footage?

JOHN KLYZA: We came across it accidentally when we were putting the boxed set together.

FANG: What role does that footage play in your feature length version?

KLYZA: Back in the early 90s, director Jim Markovic put together a combination of the first three SLEEPAWAY CAMP movies, using the part IV footage from 1992 as a wraparound. That was done for promotional purposes to try and get the funding to make the movie for real. They only shot one or two days back in October of 1992. We pulled it apart, and working with an editor over the last three years, I wrote new scenes using the 1992 footage and scenes from the previous movies. We just kept on going through different cuts trying to create something as new as possible out of the existing footage.

FANG: Was anything new shot to flesh out the story?

KLYZA: Jim Markovic got a voice actress who sounds like Carrie Chambers, who was in the 1992 footage, and got her to record narration so we could make sense of the scenes. That links everything together. When they were originally trying to make this movie in 1992, it was going to be about 75% new footage and 25% old. Because we couldn't shoot anything new, two decades later, I saw my job as producer being to squeeze every last drop out of that 1992 footage. It is flipped now, 25% 1992 footage and 75% archive footage. We broke alot of the scenes from the old movies down into themes, and reconceptualized them, so they have different meaning. It's got fifty death scenes in it, so you can't beat that!

FANG: What kind of new territory does the film head into?

KLYZA: It begins at the end of SLEEPAWAY CAMP 3, with Angela dying in the back of an ambulance, and then goes on to this girl, Alison, who has been having nightmares. She goes back to the campground, which has been abandoned, and she is walking around, trying to figure out what her nightmares and memories are about. It is like, is she Angela? Is she a victim? She has flashbacks, and we try to put a cap on that mystery.

FANG: Is original SLEEPAWAY CAMP creator Robert Hiltzik involved with what you are doing?

KLYZA: No, not at all. The rights are split between two different parties, and what we tried to do with SLEEPAWAY CAMP IV was to try to tie 1, 2, and 3 together into a cohesive storyline. A lot of the fan complaints are over the difference in story direction and tone between the original and the sequels. Part IV was done by Markovic, a third party outside that part 1 vs parts 2 and 3 thing.

FANG: Any talk of re-shooting this as a new film?

KLYZA: Yes. We've been trying to do that, but we want to see how it goes with this first. It has taken twenty years to get to this point. It was important to get this part of the history squared away. We would like to get it shot for real. I did some writing on the script, because they had only done seventy pages or so back in 1992, so the writer asked me to flesh it out a bit. That was fun.

*Not to be confused with 2008's RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP, a direct sequel to the original, both directed by Robert Hiltzik.

Default Jaws is Coming to Blu-ray, Full Details & Package Art Revealed

Although word leaked out a bit ago that Universal Home Entertainment was going to release Steven Spielberg's Jaws on Blu-ray for the first time on August 14th, the studio made an official announcement today. Full details were revealed and a special Blu-ray "trailer" was released. Read on for the goods!

JAWS – the landmark motion picture that still makes audiences afraid to go in the water – comes to Blu-ray™ for the first time ever on August 14th. Featuring an all-new, digitally remastered and fully restored picture, as well as 7.1 surround sound, the JAWS Blu-ray™ with Digital Copy and UltraViolet™ gives fans the ultimate way to watch the breathtaking and terrifying action-thriller.

One of the most influential motion pictures of all time and nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award®, JAWS stars Oscar® winner Richard Dreyfuss and Oscar® nominees Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw. Produced by legendary filmmakers Richard D. Zanuck and David Brown, the film earned an Oscar® for composer John Williams’ instantly recognisable minimalist score, as well as Oscars® for Best Editing and Best Sound. When it was first released in 1975, JAWS smashed box-office records and became the highest-grossing film of its era, earning Spielberg a reputation as a Hollywood visionary. Today, it remains one of the highest-grossing films in motion-picture history and is largely considered the film that launched the summer blockbuster.

JAWS is one of 13 classic Universal films to be digitally remastered and fully restored from 35mm original film elements as part of Universal’s on-going 100th Anniversary celebration. The JAWS restoration began with researching and evaluating the existing film elements to determine the best means to restore the film. Over the course of several months, skilled technicians at Universal Studios Digital Services meticulously balanced colour, removed dirt and scratches, and repaired any damage to the film elements shot by shot and frame by frame. Following the picture restoration, the Universal Studios Sound team up-mixed the iconic JAWS soundtrack to DTS-HD Master 7.1, optimising the sound on the Blu-ray™ for the latest home cinema technology. The entire restoration process was conducted in conjunction with Steven Spielberg and Amblin Entertainment’s post-production team to ensure the integrity of Spielberg’s original vision remained intact.

“JAWS holds a unique place, not just in Universal Pictures’ history, but in global pop culture,” said Craig Kornblau, President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment. “It is only fitting that this phenomenal film should be given the extensive restoration needed to ensure that long-time fans as well as newcomers can enjoy this unforgettable cinematic achievement for generations to come.”

The JAWS Blu-ray™ is also available in limited edition steelbook packaging and also contains a Digital Copy of the film for a limited time, compatible with iTunes®, iPad®, iPhone®, iPod™ touch, Android or online retail partners, as well as an UltraViolet™ copy. UltraViolet is the revolutionary new way for consumers to collect movies and TV shows in the cloud to download and stream instantly to computers, tablets and smartphones. Consumers can now truly enjoy their movies anytime, anywhere on the platform of their choice.

Default Daniel Radcliffe's 'The Woman in Black' Haunts Blu-Ray

I confess that I missed The Woman in Black upon its theatrical release a few months back, but since the film wasn't a huge hit it didn't stay in theaters all that long -- at least in the U.S. In the U.K., however, where the book upon which the film is based, and the resulting play, are hugely popular, Hammer Film's latest was a huge hit. And when horror legend Joe Lansdale stopped by FEARnet's offices a few weeks back for an interview, he described it as one of his favorite recent fright films. So you can be sure I'm gonna check this puppy out when it hits Blu-ray and DVD May 22nd. Check out the full details on the disc after the jump.

Here's the press release we just received regarding the Blu-ray and DVD debut of The Woman in Black: "Daniel Radcliffe stars in THE WOMAN IN BLACK, the hit CBS Films ghost story that scared up more than $53 million at the box office, which will be released on Blu-ray™ and DVD by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on May 22nd. In the supernatural thriller, Radcliffe (Harry Potter) plays Arthur Kipps, a young lawyer who travels to a remote village where he discovers the vengeful ghost of a scorned woman is terrorizing the locals. The film also stars Ciaran Hinds (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), Academy Award® nominee Janet McTeer (2011, Supporting Actress, Albert Nobbs) and Liz White (Wild Bill)."

"THE WOMAN IN BLACK Blu-ray™ and DVD both include commentary by the writer and the director as well as two all-new featurettes: "Inside The Perfect Thriller: Making Woman in Black," a discussion with the filmmakers and cast; and "No Fear: Daniel Radcliffe as Arthur Kipps," in which Radcliffe discusses the most challenging and interesting parts of playing this character.

"THE WOMAN IN BLACK is directed by James Watkins (Eden Lake) and produced by Richard Jackson (Setup), Simon Oakes (Let Me In) and Brian Oliver (The Ides of March). The screenplay is by Jane Goldman (X-Men: First Class) and based on the 1983 novel by Susan Hill. The film is a Hammer and Alliance Films presentation, in association with Cross Creek Pictures and is a Talisman production in association with Exclusive Media Group and The UK Film Council. Executive Producers are Guy East, Nigel Sinclair, Tobin Armbrust, Marc Schipper, Neil Dunn, Xavier Marchand, Roy Lee and Tyler Thompson. CBS Films released the film theatrically on February 3, 2012.

Synopsis: Arthur Kipps (Radcliffe), a widowed lawyer whose grief has put his career in jeopardy, is sent to a remote village to sort out the affairs of a recently deceased eccentric. But upon his arrival, it soon becomes clear that everyone in the town is keeping a deadly secret. Although the townspeople try to keep Kipps from learning their tragic history, he soon discovers that the house belonging to his client is haunted by the ghost of a woman who is determined to find someone and something she lost… and no one, not even the children, are safe from her vengeance.

Blu-ray™ and DVD Special Features include:

Commentary with Director James Watkins and Screenwriter Jane Goldman
Inside The Perfect Thriller: Making Woman in Black Featurette
No Fear: Daniel Radcliffe as Arthur Kipps Featurette

Default Wrong Turn 5 is Becoming a Reality, Ed Wood and More Are Coming to Blu-ray

We'll lead this double-whammy news item with the good news.

Disney is dipping into its vaults and offloading a bunch of worthy titles to check out/buy on Blu-ray.

Tim Burton's Ed Wood biopic starring Johnny Depp leads the pack. No date has been set, but it's due to hit stores this fall before the end of 2012. Also on tap: Arachnophobia, the nature-run-amok thriller with Jeff Daniels, and the fam-friendly Hocus Pocus - which has a larger cult following than I expected. Those two titles are expected around Halloween.

Now, onto the sequel news...

Bloody-Disgusting is working with Fox Home Entertainment on a promotion and the two have revealed Wrong Turn 5 is officially going into production. Declan O'Brien, who has found success with the series, is back to direct. Here's the official synopsis:

In the next chilling chapter of Wrong Turn, a small West Virginia town is hosting the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where throngs of costumed partygoers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals kill the fun when they trick and treat themselves to a group of visiting college students who are dying for a good time ...
