Default John Carpenter’s ‘In the Mouth of Madness’ Finally Gets Blu-ray Release!

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of director John Carpenter’s 1995 In the Mouth of Madness, which stars Sam Neill, Julie Carmen, Jurgen Prochnow, David Warner, John Glover, Bernie Casey, Charlton Heston, Frances Bay and a young Hayden Christensen.

The Lovecraftian cult classic arrives on Blu-ray in time for Halloween, on October 15th.

Easily one of my all-time favorite horror movies, “Best-selling author and Stephen King contemporary Sutter Cane’s newest novel is literally driving his readers insane. When the author inexplicably vanishes, an insurance investigator named John Trent (Sam Neill) is hired by Arcane Publishing director Jackson Harglow (Charlton Heston) to track the author down. But Trent, along with Cane’s editor Linda Styles (Julie Carmen), soon finds himself crossing the barrier between fact and fiction, and entering a terrifying world of evil and madness from which there is no escape.”

It’s been in HD on cable for over a year now, but it’ll be nice to finally own a physical copy.

(Thanks JamesG!)

"I am the literary equivalent of a Big Mac and Fries." - Stephen King

"There's nothing wrong with G-rated movies, as long as there's lots of sex and violence." - Elvira

Default 40th Anniversary Blu-ray of The Exorcist Details Are In!

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Academy Award-winning director William Friedkin’s The Exorcist with a new Blu-ray release featuring the Extended Director’s Cut and Theatrical Version with new special features and premiums. Look for it October 8th. Head inside for a breakdown of bonus content.

In August, Friedkin will receive the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the 70th Venice International Film Festival, where he will present the restored version of Warner Bros.’ Sorcerer. And Friedkin and author Blatty will attend a special 40th Anniversary screening of their film at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. on October 30th. The film will also have an exclusive theatrical engagement October 31 through November 7th at the AMC Georgetown.

Special Features:

Beyond Comprehension: William Peter Blatty's The Exorcist (NEW) 40 years after his novel was published, The Exorcist author, screenwriter and producer returns to where it all began. First stop is a cabin/guest house in the hills of Encino, California, where Blatty wrote the novel. The author visits the place for the first time in 40 years and shares not only memories of writing the book, but also discusses how it inspired him. We then meet Blatty in two key and iconic locations; Georgetown University where the film was shot, and at the now-famous Exorcist steps. Throughout, Blatty reads from his novel, including an excerpt from a chilling newly published passage.
Talk of the Devil (NEW) – While at Georgetown University, William Peter Blatty heard about a true case of possession from Father Eugene Gallagher. At the time the film came out, the priest talked at length about exorcism, the true story and about Blatty; this footage is now available for the first time in many years. It is as revealing as it is shocking.·

Default Crystal Lake Memories Now Available for Pre-Order

Panic Productions and Hutson Ranch Media have launched pre-orders for Crystal Lake Memories: The Complete History of Friday the 13th on its official website.

The documentary, inspired by Peter M. Bracke’s bestselling book of the same name, promises to be the definitive retrospective on the long-running Friday the 13th franchise. The three-disc Blu-ray/DVD combo pack showcases the extensive feature, which runs approximately 420 minutes.

When purchased through the website, buyers will also receive a bonus DVD with nearly 4 hours of extended interview material.

The film will be officially released on August 27, 2013 via 1428 Films with a list price of $29.95.Corey Feldman (star of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter) narrates Crystal Lake Memories, which features interviews with approximately 150 cast and crew members from all twelve Friday the 13th films and the syndicated television series, many of whom have never before appeared in on-camera interviews. Interview subjects include Kane Hodder, Robert Englund, Tom Savini, Danielle Panabaker, Sean S. Cunningham, Derek Mears, Betsy Palmer, Wes Craven, Robert Shaye, Alice Cooper and many more. A full list of the cast can be found here.

Crystal Lake Memories is written and directed by Daniel Farrands and produced by Thommy Hutson, who previously teamed up for the award-winning Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy.

"As lifelong fans, we couldn't let 2013 pass us by without giving Jason his due," explains Farrands. "I hope that Crystal Lake Memories will serve as a befitting tribute to one of this generation's most iconic bogeymen."

"We're thrilled that we are able to bring all the incredible stories from the cast and crew to life, showcasing why the Friday the 13th franchise is still going strong decades later," adds Hutson. "It's a testament to the blood, sweat and tears that went into making summer camp, and eventually a hockey mask, both terrifying and fun."

In the 33 years since the original Friday the 13th premiered in May of 1980, the slasher franchise has grown to include twelve feature films, a television series, novels, comic books, merchandise and memorabilia. In addition to staggering box office success, the films turned Jason Voorhees and his signature hockey mask into a pop culture icon. Now fans can get an in-depth look that spans the entire history from those involved.

Default Exclusive Grindhouse Blu-ray/DVD art: Peter Cushing’s “CORRUPTION

To celebrate Peter Cushing’s 100th birthday this year, Grindhouse Releasing is bringing his little-seen 1968 shocker CORRUPTION to disc, and we’ve got the exclusive first peek at the two versions of the cover art (one rather risque).

Grindhouse issues CORRUPTION as a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack October 8, with specs and special features to be announced. Directed by Robert Hartford-Davis, the film (a.k.a. CARNAGE) is a variation on the EYES WITHOUT A FACE theme in which Cushing takes an atypical villainous role as Sir John Rowan, a surgeon whose model fiancée (Sue Lloyd) gets into a horrible accident that disfigures her. Desperate to restore her looks, Rowan murders a series of young women to claim their pituitary fluid. Grindhouse will give CORRUPTION a series of theatrical screenings as well, and is doing the same for AN AMERICAN HIPPIE IN ISRAEL, GONE WITH THE POPE and others. See more info at Grindhouse’s official website and Facebook page.

I wonder how many times it's going to be necessary to double dip on the original Halloween.

I currently have the original Anchor Bay DVD from 1997, the 1999 remastered and the 25th Anniversary DVD from 2003.

I was debating getting the 30th Anniversary Blu-ray box set, but that was too expensive.

I may get this new 35th Anniversary so I can own Halloween on Blu-ray.

It's like the Evil Dead franchise, it seems like they release a new edition every 3 years. I bought the supposed Limited Edition of Army Of Darkness on DVD, then a few years later they re release another DVD that has all the same stuff. Ugh.

Or the Friday The 13ths...

I'll probably get this version of Halloween too.
