And here's the third-generation Golf in its original form! This Australian example is a 1994 model.

Cool EL CORRADO!!

In 1990, Volkswagen introduced its new 2+2 sports coupe, the Corrado.

Replacing the Scirocco, the Corrado was supercharged with a G-shaped charging device that made it go faster than any previous Volkswagen except the GTI.

There were only two problems - the Corrado seemed redundant next to the GTI, and with its more practical, versatile styling, the GTI seemed the better bargain. (The whole appeal of the GTI was that it was a practical hatchback with sports-car performance.) The Corrado was destined to have a short lifespan, but it does have its fans.

Another VW Corrado - in canary yellow - presumably leaving another car in its dust!

Then there must be no 425-horsepower 'Vettes around!

The Vanagon was retired after the 1992 model. Finally, VW's Transporter went for front engines and front-wheel-drive. Vanagons had both watercooled and aricooled engines, but the new van would have watercooled engines only. The look and feel, though, were unmistakbly Volkswagen.

Here in the U.S. the new van was sold as the Euro Van.

First available for the 1993 model year, it was omitted from the VW lineup in the States for awhile due to slow sales and difficulty meeting U.S. government standards. Once it joined the U.S. lineup permanently, though, it became a cult favorite like its predecessors. This is a 1999 model.

Here's a nice - if maybe too red - 1996 Volkswagen Golf (third-generation!).

Here's a VW we might be seeing in showrooms in the near future. . . Volkswagen's Concept C, which was shown at last year's Geneva Auto Show!

We won't see it here for another year or so, but for those who want a peek. . . here's the next Volkswagen Golf!

Now available in Europe, the Golf will come to North America in GTI form first.

Speaking of VW EuroVans, I wonder how many people recognize these as a Volkswagens.

They certainly look more comfortable and commodious than the old VW Campers of yore!

Here's a 2004 Jetta GLI, in a cool frosty blue paint job!

The Jetta GLI is VW's premier sports sedan in North America. Think of it as a GTI with four doors and a trunk!
