Wow. This is really, really encouraging news! Part of me remains skeptical though. I can't help but wonder if they are going to do something to screw up the original episodes, like by replacing the original theme music with heavy metal or something really cheesy. I want to see the full episodes with the original everything. Original opening theme, original update theme, original credits, original closing theme. I want to see that 1-800 number on the screen and relive my childhood! Please don't water it down!!!

I think they should blur out the 1-800 number if it's not operational. Imagine trying to call with a tip and getting a dead line. :-/

I share your enthusiasm about the original everything. However, we need to remain open minded about how they are going to I corporate all the new information about these cases... This isn't 1990 anymore and I for one, want to see all new relative information and updates, updated to the present for EVERY case, if possible.

Like, I want 2017 updates if possible, and I will be open minded as to how they can and will incorporate that.

They could put a disclaimer at the very beginning to ignore the 1-800 number and use their current number or email address if viewers have any info. If they blur out the 1-800 number during the broadcast, that means they will have to edit out Stack telling viewers to call the number. Episode = ruined.

That's fine if they add updates, but they should be added after the very end of the episodes. I don't want to see the original broadcasts butchered up with parts edited out. We've waited 20 years for this. As paying customers, we deserve better.

The last time I bought a box DVD set, the original theme music was replaced with something else. I felt ripped off and cheated. It cheapened the whole viewing experience and I ended up giving the box set away. The original theme music and credits are an essential part of the UM viewing experience.

It's more important to solve these cases than revel in nostalgia, IMO.

I wonder if the updates will be similar to what Forensic Files did when they repackaged old episodes: a text update at the end of each episode.

I'm expecting text (possibly with narration) which is still going to be a massive undertaking considering there's possibly hundreds of updates in play.

And there were the quickie updates in the original UM that were done this way as well.

If that's how high your standards are, prepare to be disappointed!

Going from having nothing from RSUM available to whatever we get is going to be a massive leap as far as I'm concerned.

That's what I'm saying, everyone is being severely over critical as far as I'm concerned. Just enjoy the fact that there is going to be original UM episodes streamed, in HD with high quality sound. I mean, the show is 30 years aged... It HAS to be adjusted.

Just enjoy it!!!!!!

the part with them asking to call this number or write to this address will likely be cut off like they did with the episodes on the DVD

They've got a bunch of stock footage of Stack urging the public to call "their local law enforcement agencies." I bet it comes into play.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. If they have to chop the last 10 seconds off every single segment + closing theme and credits from every single episode, that's a lot of chopping. There's ways to inform viewers of the new phone number/email address and give 2017 updates without chopping up and destroying the original broadcast.

If they actually go through with that kind of chopping and change the theme music to something non-original, that's a deal-breaker for me.

Also known as the Lifetime endings.

I'm not so sure it was stock footage since Stack still gave a conclusion to every case before telling viewers to call their local law enforcement agencies.

I often wondered if NBC just filmed two endings with Stack for every case; the toll free number and the law enforcement one to be used later when the show went into syndication. As I recall, when UM first started airing the reruns on Lifetime, they scrapped the toll free number endings even though it was still active and UM was still airing new episodes every Wednesday night. I never quite understood the purpose of that.

Maybe they'll do the "contact local law enforcement, or log on to unsolved.com" blah blah blah for tips, etc. Didn't they do that with the later episodes?

They could blur the number and/or address and write no longer in service or no longer valid over it, that's what the WWE Network does for older shows in their on demand library that advertise 900#s and so on.
