There's no way Stephen could have anticipated this would happen. If they had been able to determine that Marilu's time of death was before Stephen left the house that morning, then this would have destroyed his alibi, which is why the hired hit theory is more likely, IMO.
Excellent point. Plus, Stephen called his mother-in-law at 8:15. Had she went over shortly after the call and found her dead prior to 10:06, that too would've narrowed down the time of death.

This case, IMO, is very similar to the murders of Mickey and Trudy Thompson.

Just so you know, everyone on here (except one person) believes he is guilty as sin. Did you watch the segment when it first ran or catch it recently on Amazon Prime?
I watched it when it originally aired, they wanted to film in our house but the sheriff said no way and hed no doubt recognize it and that could set him off.

Couple other notes to add. He never left the house that early, ever. No jewelry was found missing, none. She was found in her room I believe upstairs. The ballistics show two different guns, but fired by the same person in an attempt to make it look like two but angles prove it was one. The hitman theroy could be possible, he had someone working around the house he hired.

I didn't know about Stephen Geri's past violence with women. Does anyone have a link to a source on this?

Before knowing about that, I was maybe 60-40 Guilty-Not Guilty on this one.

I will say that if I was in his situation and indeed innocent, I would know that the authorities would be looking at me first, and most closely. That I had better have a solid alibi - and in fear of wrongful prosecution, might even engage in behavior similar all of his next-day visits in an attempt to ensure my alibi could be verified.

His financial problems and the post I read here about past violence with women has me thinking more and more that he is not innocent though. Food for thought regarding behaviors though.

The problem with Geri's innocence, for me anyway, is the complete lack of a motive for anyone else to have murdered Marilu that morning. A random intruder entering the house and shooting her 4 times for jewelry? That makes no sense.

Agreed.

Coupled with Geri's completely altered morning routine and his insistence on going back the next day to those places he had visited to remind them that he was there yesterday during the hours Marilu was at home that morning, I believe it truly is a no-brainer. It blows my mind how this guy stole away scot free.

On top of it all, he planned it to where Marilu's own mother would be the first to discover her body. ON HER BIRTHDAY. Cruel and disgusting.

I think the thing that saved him thus far was the fact that none of his guns matched the one used to murder Marilu, plus his convoluted alibi.

I guess if I think about it, I'm not surprised. It's obvious the man put a lot of work into crafting and then executing a pretty, as you said, convoluted alibi. In light of all this, I would almost expect him to have considered whether the firearms used could be traced back to him.

He's clearly not dumb, but somehow he's also painfully transparent.

I'm more amazed that nothing (that we know of, anyway) has trickled out about this case like an Elmo Florence situation where the killer outright brags about it or even in the case of the two Mary Morris murders where there are murmurs about what had happened from people in the area.

Just saw this case and I totally agree with this paragraph. That is not me saying he is innocent, but rather that if I were in his shoes and innocent, I would make every single attempt to prove my innocence even if it looked "unusual" as the detective in the segment said.

I agree that it's not overly suspicious for someone who's potentially a suspect in a murder to try and get as many alibi witnesses as possible. But Geri went back to these places the day after Marilu was murdered. That's what I find to be highly suspicious.
