Default Musician Careers That Were Destroyed By A Moment In History

In the music industry, it probably feels pretty good to be at the top of your game. Unfortunately, it also means thereís only one way to go from there: down. Just ask these musicians, whose careers were destroyed by everything from criminal scandals to wardrobe malfunctions to lip-sync nightmares.

In 1958, rock 'n' roll icon Jerry Lee Lewis decided to take his underage wife with him on his tour of England. What happened next isnít much of a surprise. Lewis had neglected to tell anyone he was newly married, so when he rocked up with Myra Gail Lewis in tow, the British press were naturally curious. A Daily Mail reporter, Paul Tanfield, happened to ask how old the newlywed was. Lewis said she was 15 and ended his transatlantic career in one fell swoop.

The worst part of all this is that Lewis was lying; Myra was actually 13. Oh, and she was Lewis' cousin, too. Naturally, his British tour collapsed. Those that showed up to his gigs only booed him. Concerts were canceled, his expensive hotel kicked him out, and when he finally hightailed it back to the States, he found he'd been blacklisted from the industry. The radio would no longer play his songs, he was dropped from TV appearances, and demand for his performances all but disappeared, though he never lost his recording contract and continued to release a number of mostly unsuccessful singles.

The singer who I think had his career destroyed would most likely be Bobby Brown because when he first started out as a teen in the group New Edition he was the one that made New Edition a successful R&B group but when he released his solo debut album King Of Stage in 1986 he had gone from teen star to one hit wonder at first but it wasn't until he released the song On Our Own from the Ghostbusters II soundtrack he became a successful star and when he released the album Don't Be Cruel in 1988 Bobby Brown's road to superstardom had taken off. But what really hurt his career was when Bobby Brown married Whitney Houston and I think had Bobby Brown had not married Whitney Houston Bobby Brown would not be in the position he's currently in today. And I think R. Kelly has followed the same path that Bobby Brown followed and it goes to show that if you're a singer R&B is not a genre to begin with

What a moral dilemma we face if a musician breaks the law, in continuing to support that individual, to appreciate his or her own artwork in the same way or whether to ostracise. The Sinead O' Connor incident though not as serious reminds me of John Lennon comparing himself to Jesus: I never had the same respect for him after that.

When I first saw the name in this chat, the first act that came to my mind was the Dixie Chicks.

God bless you always!!!

P.S. With it being hard for females to have a big enough presence on country radio for the last several years, I wonder how much longer they would've lasted had the lead girl not said what she put out there all of them years ago.
Go here to check out my most favorite singer, James Otto, when you can!

It's interesting how, for all the raucousness and noteriety so many rockers have had for exhibiting bad behavior and unpopular views, that such acts have been devastated in one shot for "crossing a line". For all the sex, drugs, rock and roll, and bat-munching, some politically incorrect act or association turns an aspiring career to toast.

Case in point: Marilyn Manson.
