Lightbulb The Chevrolet Picture Thread

As I promised, I'm starting picture threads for all divisions of General Motors, so here's one for Chevrolet -- the 1965 Chevy Impala SS Convertible.

This is a nice 1992 model.

The Chevrolet Nova was the Apple Pie Division's "compact" model in the sixties and the seventies. This one is a 1972 SS model.

The name Nova was a triple entendre; NOVA was an acronym for the four cars that shared its platform (the Nova the Oldsmobile Omega, the Pontiac Ventura, and the Buick Apollo), a nova is a star that shines brightly for a brief time, and "nova" is Latin for "new."

The name couldn't be used in Latin American countries, because "Nova" has another meaning in Spanish - "doesn't go."

Chevrolet's most radical car in the sixties was the rear-engined Corvair. This is a 1967 model.

Contrary to popular wisdom, Ralph Nader's book Unsafe At Any Speed did not kill the Corvair. The defects Nader publicized in his book were ironed out when Chevrolet came out with the second-gerneation model in 1965. GM pulled the plug on the 'Vair after the 1969 model year because Ford's Falcon was consistently beating it in sales.

That's my kind of car! A big V-8, 400+ horsepower and 12-second 1/4 miles!
That's a nice '68 Chevelle. I see some of those at the weekly car gathering. When the drivers stomp on the accelerator which they sometimes do when they leave, they have a hard time keeping the car in one lane (the tremendous torque makes the back of the car fishtail).
