Icon15 26 Kids Hurt in Elementary School Food Fight

http://fox8.com/2012/03/15/26-kids-h...ol-food-fight/

Posted on: 3:41 pm, March 15, 2012, by Lindsay Buckingham, updated on: 05:35pm, March 15, 2012

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — Dozens of kids were hurt when a food fight turned violent at a local school Thursday afternoon, Fox 8 News reports.

It happened just after 1 p.m. in the cafeteria of Cranwood Elementary on Christine Avenue, which is the temporary home for Miles School (K-8)–part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District.

Garfield Heights police told Fox 8′s Melissa Reid that the fight broke out between students in grades fifth through eighth. Students say the incident escalated quickly.

“We was in the cafeteria, and they just started throwing food out of nowhere, the eighth graders, and that’s when everything got out of control, and they were pushing me back and forth and things,” said student Dyshanea Scott.

“She fell and hurt her arm. I am taking her to the doctor’s now, because I don’t know if any muscle is torn or anything like that,” said Dyshanea’s mother, Diyona Scott.

Garfield Heights Fire Chief Thomas Nemetz said 26 students were hurt, six of whom were taken to area hospitals. Firefighters said their injuries ranged from head injuries to cuts and bruises. One person reportedly suffered a broken wrist.

A spokesperson for CMSD said parents were notified of the situation as soon as it happened, and that an investigation was underway.

Further details were not immediately released.

Kids are getting crazier and crazier. We wouldn't have never had a food fight this bad or not at all when I was in school. Thanks for sharing this Monika.

Wow... When I was in junior high our school really cracked down on food fights although I don't remember ever witnessing one and I certainly never partook of one. But my best friend in junior high got suspended for three days for throwing ice in the cafeteria.

Thank you, Monika! I needed a good laugh after reading
about the Trayvon Martin case-really depressing.
