Thumbs up Movie Reviews: "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole"

Movie Reviews: Legend Of The Guardians: The Owls Of Ga’Hoole

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole may seem like a strange title for an animated movie, but several critics suggest that the movie itself is mighty strange, something that one might expect from 300 and Watchmen director Zach Snyder.

What with all of its characters — heroes and villains — owls, some critics complain that they can’t tell the good ones from the bad.

“It’s especially hard to determine who’s fighting whom,” writes Dan Kois in the Washington Post.

But that’s not the only confusion, remarks Betsy Sharkey in the Los Angeles Times, “with the film pulled between its light and dark sides just as the owls struggle with forces of good and evil.”

For a change, most of the critics praise the digital animation and 3D rendering of the movie.

“It’s the 3D stunts that make Legend of the Guardians a stirring entertainment,” says Steven Cole in the Toronto Globe and Mail.

Andy Webster in the New York Times notes that “every feather, sunset and 3D perspective (it is in both 3-D and normal formats) is rendered in impeccable detail.”

And Elizabeth Weitzman concludes in the New York Daily News: “Everyone will be impressed by the lovely 3D animation, which highlights each ruffling feather on the beautiful birds. It’s no small testament that you’re likely to forget you’re wearing those plastic glasses altogether.”
