Maybe you should try creative writing, or editing.

Well...I can't exactly get a job with creative writing. Editing isn't a major here, but I wouldn't mind trying it someday. I'm thinking of maybe switching my Communications (my major) concentration to tv/radio instead of journalism. It's more what I want to do anyway, which is write for the tv news. I was told it was better to have a concentration in journalism if that's what I wanted to do, but I dunno. I'm not a huge fan of journalism. I wouldn't even mind taking a course in TV speaking. It would seriously stress me out a lot less because it doesn't require going out and talking to people one on one. I'd be less stressed talking to a camera, tbqh. Guh. Maybe that's what I'll do...but I still have to get through this one class. It doesn't help that my teacher LOVES to call on me.

If that's what you want to do, go for it. Or try taking one class or semester of it to see how you like it. If not, you can always go back. I took a semester of health sciences and found out it wasn't for me. Though, I wouldn't have found that out if I didn't go for it, and it wouldn't have lead me to where I am. Ugh, I hate when teachers call on people randomly. I have one that does it now. It's like, call on the people who actually have their hand raised.

Keep us posted, Ashlee - I'm sure there is a perfect job for you in the field of news. At least the semester will eventually end and you won't have to deal with this professor anymore!!

He's my advisor... No I don't mind him, I just don't understand why I'm always called on.

Sometimes I feel like I'm doing things all wrong. It's not even news I want to be involved with, just writing. I just don't know what else to get a career in with writing. So, this is what I'm trying out. And if I'm going to be doing that, I want to try out something TV related because TV is fascinating to me. So, I think of the news. It's such a pain. I wish I were good at science or something. You can find a career in something like that easily.

It sounds like maybe you should look in a direction other than journalism that invloves writing. Perhaps you should write fiction.

Ugh, I HATE that. I have one teacher like that this semester also. We have these little activities we do(write a short paper on something) and then she wants people to read them in front of the class(she tries to get volunteers and then just randomly picks people). She's now saying that if you don't want to read it you won't even get credit for it. Gah. I haven't been called on yet but I know I will be, the semester is young.

oh I would, believe me. The thing is, you can't really find a steady job in that field and that's what I'm focused on at this point. It's like a vicious circle.

You're not alone, I know that feeling all too well, and I am an older person.

I know what you mean. I wanted to be a writer-still do-but so few people can really make a living doing it. So since I love history, I decided to major in that, and still write on the site, which I do. I hope to have a novel published one day.

Good luck, I hope it works out for you. I wish it weren't so difficult. We all have different talents and interests...and it seems only people whose talents and interests are in science and related fields can really benefit from it. It gets frustrating for the rest of us.
