Default The Classic American Cars Photo Thread!

Since there are few car threads and since I have quite a few car-related photos, here is a thread dedicated to the classic (1970s and earlier) American cars.

To start off, here is a 1959 Dodge Custom Royal. The detail to the exterior (and interior) styling was amazing back then. The emblems and ornaments almost look like jewelery, not to mention the generous amount of chrome. Of course, the styling is just one plus. There was also the spacious interior and trunk, smooth ride and powerful engine.

This particular car was at the Mopar Spring Fling last weekend. The engine in this car was an aftermarket 440-cu-in V-8 with dual carbs.

Time for another car at the all-Mopar show from last weekend. This is a 1961 DeSoto, the final year for this car.

It was for sale, asking price $35,000.

That's not an American car!

(I prefer American cars; their engines with tons of low-end torque are very fun!, along with long and low styling and durability).

Now, here is a 1963 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible. Very nice!

I really like all the cars you posted, but the 1963 Cadillac Eldorado looks the nicest in my opinion. Very sleek, elegant and luxurious!

No problem.

It got a lot of attention. That car was at the weekly (Friday night) car show. You never can tell what cars will be there so it's kind of fun to be surprised.

Looks good! I have seen a few '40s Pontiacs at car shows. Not that many because they are rare.

Thanks for posting that, Roger. Car looks to be in excellent condition. Probably worth $200,000+!

They were popular, especially since one was used in the movie "Smokey and the Bandit (1977).

My favorite Firebird is the 1969 with Ram Air IV 400-cu-in engine. Underrated at 345 (gross) horsepower, it could run 0-60 mph in 5.4 seconds, even with those skinny 1960s tires.

Back to the car show. Here is a 1961 Chrysler Imperial..

Great pictures! I grew up in the 50's and 60's and then we could identify any car on the highway because the styles were so diverse and interesting. (Also cool!) Now to me all cars look alike. Most of the time I can't tell an American car from an import they look so much alike! Those old tanks that we use to drive would cost a small fortune to drive today. Back then I remember that gas would be as low as 19 cents a gallon!Ah............ the good old days!

Yes, Marlene, cars sure were easy to identify back then. A few days ago, I mistook a Buick Lacrosse for a Toyota!

Here are a few photos of 1973 Chrysler Imperial. This was one of the longest non-limousine cars ever built, at 235.3", it edged out even the '74-'76 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham (which was 233.7").

I received the two magazines shown below today. Always a treat to look through rare magazines like those.

The second photo shows another old magazine I've had for a while next to a recent issue of Motor Trend. The covers of the new magazines don't really do anything for me; I much prefer reading the old magazines showing what are now classic cars!
