DYK that you can tell the temperature by counting the chirps of a cricket? ... To convert cricket chirps to Fahrenheit degrees, count number of chirps in 14 seconds, then add 40 to get approx. Fahrenheit temperature.

To convert cricket chirps to Celsius, count number of chirps for 25 seconds,
divide by 3 then add 4, for the approx. Celsius temp.

Thank you. I will not remember that until summer though (there will be no crickets around until then), but I guess that I can google it when it becomes necessary.

And so is Russia. Also, Russia is the only country between Finland and North Korea!

DYK
A US $1 bill lasts 18 months; $5 bill, two years; $10 bill, three years; $20 bill, four years; and $50 and $100 bills, nine years. Coins can usually survive in circulation for about 30 years.

DYK that Karolyn Grimes is messing up "Auld Lang Syne" ?! OK, that sounds a bit harsh..she is only six. Come to think of it.....anyway..

"If you watch closely, James Stewart is holding me tightly and he looks at me and begins to laugh because he knows I'm not singing the right words", she says.

DYK that leap years do NOT occur every four years? From Wikipedia:

Quote:
Every year that is exactly divisible by four is a leap year, except for years that are exactly divisible by 100, but these centurial years are leap years if they are exactly divisible by 400. For example, the years 1700, 1800, and 1900 were not leap years, but the years 1600 and 2000 were.

DYK about the Osbourne Tire Reef Disaster? In the early 1970s, 2 million used auto tires were dumped into the Atlantic Ocean, about a mile off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., between two living coral reefs. The area is
about 34 acres. The goal was to build an artificial reef to promote sea life.
But it killed the reef, instead. Now a massive million dollar program is
underway to recover the tires, recovering hundreds daily.

DYK that "Over The Rainbow" was almost cut from the movie. Some executives from MGM thought the film was too long and wanted this removed. They thought it slowed down the action too early in the movie.

DYK, that every year, during the State of the Union speech, in Washington,
2 people, are chosen to be Designated Survivors. The president and his top aides decide who will sit out that year. The designated survivors are escorted out of Washington by the U.S. Secret Service, accompanied by military and communication aides. Since 9/11, all have been taken to the same secure government facility a couple of hours from Washington, in
case of a disaster.

And a little-known fact: For the past decade, there have been two designated survivors — one Cabinet member to rebuild the executive branch and one member of the congressional leadership to lead a new legislature
Either survivor, could be the next US president, if a disaster occurred at
the Capitol.
