John Quincy Adams was actually the earliest-serving U.S. President to be photographed; his predecessors, Washington, the elder Adams, Jefferson Madison and Monroe had never posed for a camera. The earliest photo of Andrew Jackson was likely taken in 1844, and the earliest known photograph of Martin Van Buren was likely taken in 1845.

This daguerreotype is of William Henry Harrison, taken in early March 1841; it's thought to be the first photo of a U.S. President taken while he was in office. He died a month later, becoming the first U.S. President to die in office.

Now here's a fine, upstanding young man. Who is he? Clue: Mr. Harrison was number nine, number nine, and this is what you get when you add ten.

The Lincoln photo is likely from 186, when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives - he was the only Whig in the Illinois congressional delegation (both House and Senate). Yes, Hayes was a handsome young man, I never could understand why he grew a rat's-nest beard in middle age!

unfortunately that beard was men's fashion at that time.
Here is Laura Ingalls Wilder's Pa; Charles Ingalls at the height of fashion!

Adolph Hitler's 4th grade class. He's top row center. He certainly looks arrogant and smug even at that early age.
