TV 'Rob' Was The Top Show (Ratings Wise) To Be Canceled This Past Season

"Rob." The CBS comedy drew 12 million viewers and a 3.7 rating among viewers 18-49 to earn the title of the season’s top-rated cancellation, managing to get only eight episodes on the air. "If NBC had a freshman comedy with a 3.7 average, it would run the show five nights a week this fall," the story says. "The issue here was Rob Schneider’s comedy was shedding too much of its massive 'Big Bang Theory' lead-in, and was trending the wrong direction."

Rob was more deserving of renewal than Rules.

I thought it was hilarious! I think that it just came out at the wrong time because of all the immigration controversies and wacky political correctness.

i actually liked the show - mostly because of Cheech marin and Rob Schneider.

...so if NBC were to pick the show up, and only HALF of the viewers of the lowest-rated episode came back to watch, it would actually be a HIT - on NBC.

There are plenty of "politically incorrect" shows on TV doing just fine. It was cancelled because it failed to hold The Big Bang Theory's audience. Its numbers were borderline, but when you're following the biggest sitcom on TV, "borderline" is not really good enough. It also had no critical reception or fan following that could've saved it.

Rules of Engagement (which has not yet been renewed or cancelled) had similar ratings, but its in syndication so if CBS keeps it around, that'll be why.

The cancellation of "Rob" just shows that any critically-panned TV show which follows one of the more-watched TV show is likely to lose a portion of the audience of its lead-in and end up being cancelled.
