Question Was There An 'All in the Family' Episode That You Feel Was Too Dramatic?

Is there an episode of AITF, that really was a bit too heavy for a sitcom? An episode that maybe went a tad too far?

yes the Edith bunkers 50th Birthday was one that was too dramadic for a comedy and ediths crises of faith was another one to strong for a sitcome way to dramadic

I'm in the minority here and don't think it was too dramatic for a comedy since it still had comedy elements in the episodes. I liked it cause it had me choked up one minute and laughing the next.

That's the one I would pick. I watched it when it originally aired and it was very depressing for a Christmas episode.

I think the ep when Edith has a lump on her breast was too serious a topic for a sitcom

I was thinking the scene where Archie and Mike are holding the punch bowl and it gets dropped and both blame each other. "You did it!, "You did it!!". had me rolling on the floor.

Edith Gets Fired, and that was more drawn out than dramatic. I thought Edith's 50th Birthday mixed drama and comedy rather well, especially when the rapist got what he deserved!

I don't know why a topic like "cancer" was inserted into the script because that is way too serious for a sitcom. I criticized Good Times for the same thing.

One episode that may have been too dramatic was "The Draft Dodger." That episode had one of the most intense, longest arguments on All In The Family. The acting was all around superb, and very dramatic. It was a little tough for a Christmas episode of a sitcom.

AITF had too many dramatic eps which is why it's not a great show for syndication only DVD.

I mean that once I buy the remaining seasons on DVD which is seasons 6 to 9 to see the footage I never seen before, I won't be watching the show ever again because it's not a great "fall back show" like

The Cosby Show
Fresh Prince
Friends
Three's Company
