I think that may be why. They have to raise their prices to cover the overhead because everyone is dropping their subscriptions. And I don't blame them(the ones who are canceling their subscriptions).

As for me, I am looking at dropping our cable and getting a Roku, and maybe an antenna.

I have a set rate on my cable, it doesn't go up. The price is set for two years, and I've had that for the last four years, just renewed it in February 2011

I don't subscribe to our local paper, cause the daily paper is barely one section and isn't worth paying alot for

I just checked my cable/internet bill and it jumped from $89 to $108. Ugh.

That's a lot for one year. One of our neighbors works for Comcast, in the executive offices. He told Lou that prices are going to go through the roof. He said people aren't going to know what hit 'em. Then he laughed, said he doesn't care because he gets it free. Lou felt like decking the guy.

That guy sounds like a punk. He just had to rub it in that he gets free cable and all.

I subscribe to Comcast's Triple Play package (which is bundled cable television, Internet and home phone). I pay additional fees for the HD Preferred Package, HD-DVR and Xfinity Streampix. I also have HBO and Showtime on a 12-month promotion for $1 each.

I spent a combined total of five years working in the retention departments of both AOL and Pitney Bowes, so I know how to game the system when it comes to services for which I pay a monthly bill. I was able to "negotiate" my cable bill down to $160 a month, which I still feel is outrageous. But since I'm disabled and home most of the time, having cable helps me keep my sanity, so I let one of the largest corporations in the world victimize my bank account twelve times a year. It's Comcastic.

You ought to call Comcast and let them know that. Not that I'd expect much to happen of it, but just to let them know how compassionate and caring some of their employees are.

I used to at one time (The Greenville News); now it's hardly worth getting it at the Wal-Mart, let alone subscribing. It's no longer what it used to be, not even by a long shot, ever since Gannett took it over. By the way, the News is at least as small as yours, especially on Mondays and Tuesdays, where it has only 18-20 pages.

Not sure that's a good idea though. As far as we know the neighbor only told one person, Lou.

Our cable bill would increase 3 or 4 times a year so we ended up dropping HBO/SHOWTIME & one of the Sports packages & we dropped our landline phone we had through them. It knocked off $100.00 each month. My husband keeps threatening to drop the high speed internet since he hardly ever uses the computer but so far I keep talking him out of it. And I also want HBO back in June so I can watch True Blood. That will probably send hubby right through the roof. I hate how the prices have gotten so high.
