TV Henry Winkler May Be Cast on 'Up All Night'

Ain't this cool? Former Fonz, Henry Winkler, is being eyed for the role of Ava's father, Robert, on NBC's Up All Night. "We're excited about Henry Winkler, and Maya Rudolph [Ava] just adores him," says the show's executive producer, Emily Spivey.

While Ava's mama was nutso, Spivey says Robert is "the more grounded and warm, loving parent. Even though he's flighty and a little irresponsible, he's a creative type who writes children's books. Henry, in the roles he's played, exudes a warmth and whimsy, which is why we thought of him."

In real life, Henry has authored the successful Hank Zipzer series of children's books, which was news to Spivey. "No way! I had absolutely no idea," she said when I clued her in. "I can't wait to talk to Henry."

Look for the character to debut in late April/early May, while Ava's mother, who tends bar in Florida and lives with a musician, would debut in Season 2.

"Up All Night" Nabs Henry Winkler to Play Ava's Dad (Exclusive)
2/14/2012
by Jethro Nededog

What could drive Ava’s (Maya Rudolph) constant need for attention and approval on NBC’s "Up All Night"? We’re about find out when the man who played “The Fonz” drops in to the NBC comedy later this season.

While there has already been some speculation that Henry Winkler will be playing the talk show host’s father, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the deal has officially closed.

Winkler will play Robert Alexander, a children’s book author who’s adored by a generation of readers. And while the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, it’s those same readers who Ava has had to compete with for his one-on-one attention.

At this time, no air-date has been set by NBC for Winkler’s episode.

Keck's Exclusives: First Look and Video of Henry Winkler's Guest Spot on "Up All Night"
Mar 20, 2012
by William Keck

The Fonz is sporting a sweet ponytail in this first look at former "Happy Days" star Henry Winkler guest starring on this Thursday's "Up All Night" (9:30/8:30c on NBC).

In the episode, titled 'Daddy Daughter Time', Henry appears as Ava's father, Robert Alexander, a beloved children's book author. Ava (Maya Rudolph) is none too pleased that dad's brought along his family, who are more interested in meeting celebrities at Ava's work place than spending time with her alone.

Among the celebs the star-struck family has their eyes on is Sharon Osbourne, guest starring as a version of herself whom Ava has long considered a rival.

Reagan (Christina Applegate) also starts to feel the heat at the studio when husband Chris (Will Arnett) lands a segment on 'The Ava Show'.
