Default Food Can Be Confusing!

The last few years, I have noticed so many new diet books in the store. Then everytime I look in the paper or turn on the TV, they are telling you how to eat and what to eat. What really makes me upset is one article will tell you (for example) that apples are great for you. Then you turn around and another article says they are bad for you. With all these diet books and news articles about food, it gets VERY confusing. With me though, I dont eat fast food anymore and I cut back on sugary drinks and I think that helped me somewhat.

The hell with the diet books.
Eat whatever you want, as long as you don't make a hog of yourself you should have no worries.

ithink a lot of it is common sense; cut back on the sweets and fats, gets somes fresh and green vegetables and fruits, moderate the red meat and cut back on the syrup on yer waffles.

I read that digesting an apple takes all of the calories in the apple so it is a neutral food calorie-wise. But my dental hygienist told me that eating apples or any fruit will take the enamel off your teeth because fruit contains so much acid. I guess we should just go by the old adage"everything in moderation".

I know what you mean...I have been on a diet for the last 7 years now...well, I guess you would call more of a lifestyle now. Anyway, I have the same problem where you hear about one person's ideals and what they say is better for you and then there is another person who tells you something different. It gets to a point where you are not sure quite what to believe anymore and just follow your own agenda. Of course unless you are one of the many who listen to the many profitable business such as WeightWatchers which isn't bad, but sometimes it get a bit extreme in getting people to lose weight.

If one is serious about dieting/losing weight, my advice would be to consult with your doctor and/or nutritionist before you do anything. Everyone's body is different and what works for somebody else may not work for you.

I always get a physical exam and my blood checked once a year. When my doctor looked at my blood results this past summer he told me that my thyroid was not producing enough hormones and he prescribed meds. for me to take to keep my metabolism at bay. I never had this problem until recently.

If I didn't go to the doctor and keep up with my annual exams, I wouldn't have known that I have a metabolism problem. It's always a good thing to get yourself checked out to find out what's going on in your body. Then your doctor can tell you specifically what to do for dieting that will work for you.

Watching what you eat is just part of it, but you also have to keep up with some sort of physical activity, even if it's just taking daily walks.

When dieting your own issues and/or preferences need to be taken into account. What may be an excellent choice for one person could be a lethal or very unhealthy one for another. For example for me, nuts are a relatively good choice. They combine good fat, protein and relatively little carbs. But for someone with an allergy they are lethal. Another example, bananas. They are often a good choice in lieu of a processed snack. But if you're diabetic too many bananas might not be a good choice. Or if you have renal problems, bec. of the potassium.

The idea of consulting a doctor, perhaps a bariologist, is a wise one. So you know where you stand medically which helps determine what's a good choice for you.
