From my new blog GRAB THE REMOTE:
“Work It” premiered last night on ABC and if there’s anything at all to be learned from CBS’s “How To Be A Gentleman,” don’t get too attached. Aside from the fact that the premise, writing, acting, and nearly everything else about this show is terrible, the 6.1 million viewers should kill this new “comedy” pretty quickly. Especially since the series it replaced, “Man Up,” debuted to stronger numbers (7.8 million) only to be cancelled after 8 aired episodes. Premise: Due to the “man-cession,” friends Lee (Ben Koldyke) and Angel (Amaury Nolasco) dress up as women to get jobs at a pharmaceutical sales company. Not the most original concept, but it’s an awkward situation that could have the potential to produce a lot of laughs, right? Not in this case. The lead characters are one-dimensional, and the supporting female (and one male) cast is even worse. Lee’s wife and daughter, who weren’t memorable enough to know their names, bring nothing to the show. His wife, who sounds like a Stuart’s mom from MadTV knockoff, is the typical pissed off female angry over the lack of care for her female needs. The daughter’s role is to be worried about her cell phone being turned off. Deep. I watched this show last night and must say it was better then I expected though my expectations were extremely low going in. My 29 year ol wife and 27 year old sister loved it they laughed aloud a few times so perhaps that is a good market for this show.
