Default What IS this show?

What is this show all about? Has anyone out there seen it before? I've never seen it in syndication or anything. Is it a decent show?

Question Henniwho?

Good question. My head tells me it might have been a show starring Richard Boone, but that's just a vague memory. I'd have to look it up in TV.com to find an answer. Better question, is why is this show listed here? No one knows it or talks about it. So what's it doing here?

I found this on Wikipedia but it's all they say:

Quote:
Hennesey is a 1959–1962 television series starring Jackie Cooper as an onshore Navy doctor and Abby Dalton as a stunning nurse. The series was midway between a comedy and a drama, and featured such guest stars as Charles Bronson, Marty Ingels, Jack Cassidy, Soupy Sales, and Frank Gorshin. The show ran on CBS in half-hour black and white episodes for three seasons.

The series was notable for an extremely catchy theme tune, a jazzy hornpipe played by tuba and piccolo. Hennesey was also innovative for being the first series to employ what has since become a standard device in television: beginning the dialog and action of each episode during the opening credits.

I wonder if it's ever aired in syndication or anything. Doesn't sound too thrilling.

Default Yes, it did appear in syndication...

..."HENNESSEY" was syndicated by Four Star Television right into the '80s. Today, it's owned by 20th Century-Fox (who bought the Four Star TV library some years ago), who apparently doesn't think it's worth "reviving" again because it's in black & white, and not enough people "remember" it to make a profit from the series in a multiple DVD box set...unfortunately. The show was usually filmed without a laugh track, and had some interesting dramatic moments in virtually every episode, as well....

I always thought it would be interesting to at least sample an episode of this show as well as Jackie's previous series "The People's Choice".

I do remember that the Nostalgia Network ( Now American Life) did air People's Choice at one time in the 90's. I was stupid for never checking it out. I think it might have only aired on weekends. I've never even seen Hennesey in syndication though.

Sad that these shows are just sitting in vaults. Shoot, why not let some company like Shout! obtain them and put them out on DVD. Why can't we have a channel totally devoted to very rare/obscure series?
