Again Solomon my man, I agree with you. However, I think I have a reason why the shows premiere late.

Back in the days (my era 1970's) when new shows began, it was almost always the first or second week of September. Nothing sooner and nothing later. September was thee month for shows to start their new season or for NEW shows to start.

However, we had only THREE NETWORKS. There wasn't much competition when a show should start to get the attention of viewers. Nowadays, you got lots of channels competing for viewers to tune in to watch their programming. It is just too constricted, therefore, many shows will delay their pilot airings or new seasons; it is spread out.

I highly agree that TV Guide should only publish information that will pertain to the FOLLOWING WEEK(s) because I totally forget when a show is supposed to start. I can't remember every friggin' "New Season" or "New Show" date. There are far too many shows and to be honest, it is a turn-off. One reason I don't end up watching many new shows is because I am already in tune with current shows that have already started their season.

Let me add, I don't watch the Today show, but almost dropping a salsa dancer sounds SCARY!

I was as I read the highlight of the week. I think you are right, I think Barbara was upset that Joy revealed her affair with Castro ON THE AIR.

I enjoy the Fall preview edition of TV Guide. I look forward to it every year and I'm glad they have a preview of all the fall shows in the one magazine. I do agree with you about the networks though. Their's no reason to have some of their fall shows premiere in October or even November. Most people already have their viewing patterns planned out by then.

Yeah when Tiki was lifting her up over his head, he was struggling and almost lost his grip. In tki defense, the girl was kind of thick in the right places which maybe why she was hard to hold-LOL

And see by the show starting so late in the fall it raises my expectations so when I do watch Samantha Who I will be expecting to like the show because of the long delay.

Good rant, Solomon! October does sound too late for fall premieres (unless of course, another writer's strike is going on). Viewers expect to watch the new fall season in September, not October. It has been that way for 50 years, and it shouldn't stop.

I may be one of the few people in this world who does not get TV Guide, so that really wouldn't make a difference to me. If I hear about a show that sounds watchable to me, I'll watch it, no matter when it's on.

Are your expectations higher when a New show starts so close to November?

Actually, no. I just get tired of waiting for it to premiere (especially when I start getting excited about it in May-LOL) I just forget aobut it entirely. Like, with Pushing Daisies, I was looking forward to watching this back in the spring, but I'm already getting into Back to You, so right now, I could care less about PD.

This happened with Murphy Brown back in 1988. I know it was a writer's strike and all, but I got so tired of waiting for this show to come on, I missed the first 4 or 5 episodes of the series. Then, when I finally got around to watching it, the show didn't interest me at all. It wasn't until the last season when I really got into the show.

I guess I just always felt the "SAVE THE BEST FOR LAST" mentality played into the Network's decision to air the show in the month of October and that's why I expect to be enteretained when I watch it-lol

That's why I'm sorry I didn't give Murphy Brown a chance back then. It's such a good show now, but you can hardly find it on TV. I guess that's what networks are trying to do nowadays. They stick all the no-chance-at-doing-well shows in September, and all the 15+ million shows in October-LOL

You are not the only one. I used to get TVGuide religiously back in the days, however, their format changed and the bigger magazine is horrible. Let me add, back in the days, TVGuide use to have great information for shows, even the syndicated shows. You could see what episode was going to show. Now, you are lucky if you get just an episode title. I don't like that. I want to know the whole information. TVGuide USED TO give DETAILED info for all the programming, old movies, tv shows, sometimes it gave info as to what celebs would appear on certain game shows (like Match Game). It is not the same anymore.

I still collect them...I've been doing that since 1983 but the magazine sucks anymore. The only issue I even like is the Fall Prevew Edition. I used to love the local listings. Now I have to turn on the tv to see what's coming on. I don't even know if I get the Cowboys game a lot of times until Gameday.

Exactly! The local listings used to be great. Not anymore. I remember I would go through the TVGuide and use a yellow highlighter and mark the programs I would want to watch. I could know FIVE DAYS IN ADVANCE what was coming on. Now, it is all abt my cable box information and that only gives me information for the next 48 hours.
