The Vanagon was retired after the 1992 model. Finally, VW's Transporter went for front engines and front-wheel-drive. Vanagons had both watercooled and aricooled engines, but the new van would have watercooled engines only. The look and feel, though, were unmistakbly Volkswagen.
Here in the U.S. the new van was sold as the Euro Van.
First available for the 1993 model year, it was omitted from the VW lineup in the States for awhile due to slow sales and difficulty meeting U.S. government standards. Once it joined the U.S. lineup permanently, though, it became a cult favorite like its predecessors. This is a 1999 model.
