Is it so wrong to bump up a topic? Just because a thread has been forgoten doesn't mean it doesn't deserve to see the front page again. And sometimes there is nothing else worth repling to on the front page. So you have to go looking for a n older thread that is still juicy. Ya know.
What do u think?

oh god, just give it up.
no, it's not annoying unless the person only bumps up their threads and no one elses. it's obvious they're seeking attention and want their name on the board constantly.

It's annoying when threads are bumped up for no reason. If you have something important to say about the topic, then you can bump it up.

I don't like old threads bumped up because, for the most part, the posters are no longer members.
I think a better idea is to create a new thread with the same topic. That makes more sense to me.
Good lord. All you're accomplishing here, MonarC, is making yourself look even more foolish than most people here already think you are.
Just swallow your pride and give this up. You're not going to win.

Bumping up old topics is annoying. I cant quite pinpoint why its annoying but it just is.

No. Whats so wrong with it? I mean, if you're only bumping up topics to make a post and whatnot, then ya, its useless.. but if you registered after or had a change of thoughts on a certain subject, why not?:)

Well sometimes it can be quite imbarassing because if you posted in it a long time ago and you said something really stupid, you have to read it. Sometimes it freaks me out so much I edit what I posted. I hate having to do that.

Yeah...I think thats why I think its annoying. I read old threads and I'm like "OMG I was so stupid." I hate how I used to be.
I haven't changed much since I registered, so that's not what bothers me.

I don't like old threads bumped up either and people that used to post don't post all the time like most of us do!! Create a new thread with the same topic does make much, much, more sense!!

Depends on the topic of thread being bumped. I seriously need to get my eyes checked. I thought this thread was called "thread humping."

Thread humping? I'm all for it!
Let me revise my stance - there's nothing wrong with thread bumping. But when, say, "Jennifer" repeatedly bumps up the same thread she created about her favorite singer, the thread no longer becomes about her favorite singer, but it instead becomes "The Jennifer Show."

I don't mind old threads being bumped up...Maybe up to 5 at a time is fine....but, for God's sake, it's rude to bump up 20+ OLD THREADS AT A TIME. http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/attachment.php?s=&postid=1482908

I voted "It Depends", but most of the time, people do it either to annoy or bump up their own stupid topic. Then it's pointless.

There is a temptation to bump a thread back to the top, especially if you create a thread that no one has responded to.
Bump away. Makes no nevermind to me.

I think its stupid. Obviously no one cared the first time.
If you have something important to add to a discussion, go ahead. But it bugs me when people are replying to old discussions where none of the original posters are even around anymore to respond. Also, it's hard to keep track of which threads you've already commented on. And, I just wanna say, I got all excited cuz I thought Mossopp was back, but she wasn't. It was just an old thread :(

:yeahthat  Exactly.
I used to like the idea of bumping up threads from several years ago but when it happened several times I saw my old posts that were not only stupid but were quoted by other members, making it pointless to edit them, I changed my mind about it.

sometimes the idea of past stupidity coming back to haunt you is FUNNY. Look at how passionate some of the posters in here were about Avril last year, and now if someone brings those posts back, it makes them embarassed to see how obsessed with her they were, sometimes that kind of thing is funny

I have your avator as a poster in my room
I kind of like it when an old thread pops up out after a long time. Usually that means a new member has been poking around the archives.
Unless there is a way to keep updating a thread without bumping it back to the top, I guess thread bumping will continue.
So if you like to update a certain thread periodically, I don't see the problem. I like that better than seeing multiple threads about the same topic.

I don't think there's anything wrong with bumping up old threads as long as it's not overdone....if someone goes on a thread bumping binge or something, that's not cool.
I held a different opinion before, so before any detectives start pulling up my prior posts and try hauling me into cyber-court, let me say this, I've reconsidered my position on this.
Another reason that I think people bump threads is because some people are shy about creating threads, so if they see a topic that interests them, they pull it back up. No harm, no foul.
People can ignore threads that don't interest them. It's as simple as that.

It's not that we have problems with thread bumping - if you bump up one or two threads, cool, that's fine. But if you go on a thread-bumping spree (bumping back up 6 or more threads in one day), NO, that's NOT cool. It's annoying.
I admit to having bumped up threads myself in the past, but I usually didn't bump more than two at a time.

Alot of old threads are very interesting especially for newer members, so I see no problem with bumping them up. However, I agree that you shouldn't bump up so many that it gets annoying. Sometimes the chit-chat board gets a little boring, so breathing new life by opening up an old thread can be fun.

True. Most of the time, it's really not needed (IMO).
That one time somebody bumped back up all those polls... THAT. WAS. ANNOYING. because all the other good threads got bumped down to the bottom of the page. :o

I think that was because one or more people voted in a bunch of polls and that caused them to bump up. I think TJ set it so that it wouldn't do that anymore because I voted in one and it wasn't bumped up.

Yep. That's what got to me. I have bumped up threads from over a couple of years old before but I didn't do it five or more times in one day. It isn't bumping it up itself that bothers me it is if it is overdone.

That's how I feel, too. I don't mind anyone bumping an old thread or two (hell, I've done it from time to time), but certain members have bumped up a great deal of them in a short span of time (someone used the word "spree" in this thread; I like that). That's when it gets annoying - and confusing.

I don't see the harm in it if it's not overdone.
Some people seem to be so upset over something as trivial as this, imagine how this makes new members feel if they see an old thread that they find interesting but are afraid to post in it for fear of people jumping all over them.
Sometimes I like that old threads get bumped cause I find something interesting to post about in that thread that I missed the first time
:)
