And that I get to tell you how much I love you, in front of hundreds of people. I can’t wait to tell you how I’m going to take care of you, and always love you no matter what.” said Nate.

Nate and CD were ordered to have sex therapy. So one Saturday they did.
"Now, I understand that your Captain asked you two to come here today. Is that correct?" asked Dana, their therypist.
"Yes, we were asked to come here by our Cap." said CD.
"Can you tell me why you think she asked you to come here?" asked Dana.
"Because we had sex on her desk as she watched." said CD.
"We did not!" yelled Nate. "Our Captain asked us to come here because we had sex in the ladies bathroom back at the division and destroyed the bathroom."
"Same thing." said CD.
"Okay, now for me to help you, I need to know a little bit about you." said Dana.
"Nate and I were - and still are - partners. We're both inspectors. So Nate and I fell in love, but then I got shot. But then I recovered and we moved into an apartment together. So then I got kidnapped, but Nate saved me. And then we got engaged."
said CD.
"Wow, well, okay. Why did you two have sex in the ladies restroom at your division?" asked Dana.
"I don't know, CD and I have been having sex alot lately." said Nate.
"Yeah, it's because I put pills in his drinks to make him more excited in the bedroom if you know what I mean." said CD.
"You did what?" Nate yelled at CD.
"Don't yell at me!" said CD.
"CD, why did you do that?" asked Dana.
"Because Nate has been acused of murder, so he's been too stressed to do anything. So one of our friends, Jinny, suggested I buy the pills. So I did." said CD.
"Nate, how does that make you feel?" asked Dana.
"Awful. I feel stupid. How could you do this, CD?" asked Nate.
"How could you have an affair with Stacey while I was kidnapped?" said CD, a few tears springing to her eyes.
"I did no such thing!" said Nate.
"Don't pretend nothing happened. I know you took her to care bears R us. Don't deny it! And then those weekends when you two would whisk off to loony toons film festivals. Nate, how could you?" said CD. She put her face in the pillow laying on the chair and cried. Nate knew CD liked to do weird stuff sometimes, but was this one of those times?
"CD, are you feeling okay?" asked Nate.
"I tried to act like it was just a one time fling, but I found her underwear in your dresser, the one with the barbies drinking soda on it. It just about broke my heart in two." said CD. Dana sat there with her eyes bugged out.
"CCCCCCCDDDDDDDDDDDD!" whined Nate. Dana gave them their privacy for a few minutes. CD explained to Nate that she was bored, so she decided to have fun.
"CD, I can't let you lie like this. It's just stupid." said Nate. CD ignored Nate and asked the therypist to come back in.
"Okay, now Dana, CD was just kidding about the whole Stacey thing. It never happened." said Nate. "Now if you don't mind, I think we'll just be leaving."
"Well that's okay, but you still have ten minutes left." said Dana.
"Fine, ten more minutes, and that's it." said Nate.
"Good." said Dana.
"Nate, I knew I'd have to tell you this one day. Now is as good as ever. Nate, I'm a man." said CD.
"On second hand, I think we had better be off." said Nate.

“You worried?” CD asked Nate. They were lying in bed. It was the night before Nate was supposed to meet with his lawyer.
“No. It’s just my lawyer, it’s not like it’s the trial.” said Nate.
“I’m worried about the trial.” said CD.
“Why?” asked Nate.
“Why do you think? Nate, just in case it hasn’t hit you yet, you’re being accused of murder!” said CD.
“Yes, CD, it has already hit me. But I’m innocent. So I’m not worried about the trial. Whatever happens, happens.” said Nate.
“I can’t believe how calm you are. You’re so, so,........ so rational.” said CD.
“Yeah, I know. I just don’t see a point in worrying about something I have no control over. As I said, whatever happens, happens.” said Nate.
“Are you mad at me?” asked CD.
“Why would I be mad at you?” asked Nate.
“Because I acted like a freak at out therapy session.” said CD.
“Well, I still can’t believe you said you were a man. I mean, were do you come up with this crap?” asked Nate.
“I don’t know. Stuff just kinda pops into my head. I can’t control it.” said CD.
“Well, I’m not mad at you. But it was verty embarrassing.” said Nate.
“I know. That’s why I’m going to make it up to you.” said CD. Nate smiled.
“You dirty mind.” said Nate.
“Nate, grow up. I don’t mean that. I got us a dog.” said CD.
“CCCCCCCDDDDDDD! We can’t afford a dog. Between the wedding and paying for a lawyer, we can’t afford toothpaste!” said Nate.
“You......don’t..........love............me!” yelled CD between sobs.
“CD, I love you. Believe me, I do. But we can’t afford a dog, and besides I’m allergic to dogs.” said Nate.
“No, you’re not.” said CD.
“I’d get allergic to dogs if it meant you’d get rid of him.” said Nate.
“How can you say that about Sunshine?” asked CD.
“You named him Sunshine?” asked Nate.
“Yes, I did. Just wait until you look into his big blue eyes.” said CD. She brought in Sunshine. Sunshine was a beagle-basset. He was skinny, had bluish eyes, and long ears. His stomach was white, and his back was black. His tail was black until the very end. The very end was white. Sunshine was the perfect dog. He was energetic, and he loved to play. He could even smile. Nate took one look at Sunshine.
“CD, that is the cutest dog I have ever seen!” yelled Nate. Nate jumped out of bed and hugged Sunshine. “But he needs a manly name. How about.......... Snooper?” asked Nate.
“Snoopers fine. But does this mean we can keep him? Asked CD.
“Who said anything about not keeping him? Really CD, you can have one cruel heart sometimes.” said Nate. So Snooper crawled into bed with Nate and CD, and slept the night away with his new family.

"There's a video tape of it, Nate." said Nate's lawyer. Nate and CD were in their lawyer's office. Nate wanted to go alone, but CD wanted to go with for support.
"The video tape clearly shows you beating him up."
"I understand that, Bill, but did the video tape also show me leaving before the time of Paul's death?" asked Nate.
"No, it did not. Someone destroyed the end of the tape. All that we have is the part with you beating Paul up." said Bill. CD squeezed Nate's hand.
"So what am I supposed to do?" asked Nate.
“Well, there is one witness who saw you walk away.” said Bill.
“Really?” asked Nate.
“Yes. Here is her name and address.” said Bill as he scribbled it down on a piece of paper. Nate hugged CD. At last there was a light at the end of a very dark tunnel.

“Okay, Jinny. Lay down on that table and Dr. Debbie will be with you shortly.” said the nurse. Jinny was about to have her very first sonogram. She was nervous. She knew she needed to find a place to live soon. Nate and CD we too stressed about the whole murder case thing, she didn’t want to be a burden. She ruined her relationship with Jack, maybe she should talk to Teddy. She decided as soon as she was done here, she would go talk to Teddy. Just then Dr. Debbie came in.
“Hello! My name is Dr. Debbie! And how are you?” asked Dr. Debbie.
“Um, fine. Now let’s do this thing and get it over with.” said Jinny.
“All righty then. Lay down on the table and pull up your shirt a little bit.” said Dr. Debbie. Jinny did as she was told. Dr. Debbie put some cold gel on Jinny’s stomach and then put on the little camera thing.
“So,... you married?” asked Dr. Debbie trying to lighten up Jinny’s mood.
“No.”
“Involved with the father?” asked Dr. Debbie.
“No.”
“Okay then. Goodie goodie good goods. I’ll match you up with my cousin, Skeeter. He’s a nice boy. He wears a little too much hair gel, but he’s a nice boy. You interested?” asked Dr. Debbie.
“No.”
“That’s fine. How about we just focus on the baby.” said Dr. Debbie.
“Fine.”
“Let’s see now, the baby is healthy, looking good. Oh, there’s it’s little head, you see?” asked Dr. Debbie as she pointed to the screen.
“Yes.”
“Would you like to know if it’s a boy or a girl?” asked Dr. Debbie.
“Yes.”
“Are you sure? Because it’s not too late to change your mind.” said Dr. Debbie.
“No, I want to know.” said Jinny.
“You sure? You absolutely 100% sure?” asked Dr. Debbie.
“Yes! Now tell me!” yelled Jinny.
“I don’t know yet. The baby isn’t far enough along to tell. Come back in two weeks. We’ll do another sonogram and I’ll be ready to tell you then.” said Dr. Debbie.

Jinny knew she couldn’t impose on Nate and CD any longer. But at the same time she couldn’t go back to Jack. So she decided enough was enough and she was going to go back to Teddy. Jinny drove to Teddy’s apartment, and knocked on the door. Teddy answered.
“Hi.” said Jinny.
“Oh. Hello Jinny.” said Teddy.
“Can I come in?” asked Jinny.
“Oh, I guess. Come on in.” said Teddy. Jinny walked in and sat down.
“Wow, this place hasn’t changed a bit.” said Jinny.
“Jinny, what is the real reason you’re here?” asked Teddy as he sat down.
“Well, as you know we had a fight a while ago. To get back at you I slept with Jack. And then I moved in with him. And then I moved out of his apartment and into Nate and CD’s.” said Jinny.
“Why are you telling me stuff I already know?” asked Teddy.
“Because there is something you don’t know. I’m pregnant, ans I don’t know who the father is.” said Jinny.
“Oh, wow.” said Teddy.
“And I can’t live with CD and Nate much longer. And I don’t want to go crawling back to Jack after I walked out on him. So, how about it? I move back in, and it’ll just be you me, my big fat stomach.” said Jinny.
“Jinny. You slept with another guy. You moved in with another guy. Then you walk out on him too, and you expect me to take you back just like that?” asked Teddy.
“Uh, yeah!” said Jinny. “Duh! I mean, hello, I’m carrying what could be your little boy or girl. You’re just going to turn your back on that? Get a heart!” said Jinny.
“No, Jinny, I’m not turning my back on that. If you are carrying my baby, then I have the responsibility as the father to take care of him or her. You can move in with me until the baby is born, and then we’ll have a blood test done. If the baby is mine, then you can stay. But if the baby’s Jack or whoever the hell else you’ve been sleeping with, then You’ll have to pack your bags.” said Teddy.
“Thanks, I think.” said Jinny.

Nate and CD went to the woman’s house who supposedly witnessed Nate leaving the parking garage before Paul had died. The woman, Jena Clark, agreed to testify on Nate’s behalf at the trial.

It was the day of the trial, and Nate was sort of nervous. CD was breathing into a paper bag.
“How can you not be scared?” asked CD.
“I am scared, CD. Very scared. But un like you, I don’t have to do breathing exercises to keep from ending up in the hospital.” said Nate.
“Hey, you promised you weren’t going to make fun of me stressing out easily.” said CD.
“I’m sorry CD. I’m just really nervous.” Then the court doors opened, and it was time for the next trial, Nate’s trial, to go in.

Things were going well for Nate until Jena Clark took the stand.
“Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God?” asked the bailiff.
“Yes.” replied Jena.
“Miss Clark. Is it the truth, that on the night of Paul DeLorenzo’s’s death, you saw Nate Basso beating on him?” asked the prosecuting district attorney.
“That is correct.” said Jena.
“And is it also true that you saw Mr. Basso kill Mr. DeLorenzo’s?” asked the attorney.
“That is also correct.” said Jena. Nate couldn’t believe what he heard. He jumped out of his seat in anger.
“I object, your honor. She’s supposed to be on my side!” yelled Nate.
“Over ruled. You need your attorney to do the objecting.” said the Judge.
“Nate, does the judge look familiar to you?” whispered CD.
“Yeah, as a matter of fact he does.” whispered Nate.
“Let me think. He’s, he’s,..... oh Lord, he’s Killer!” yelled CD.
“Yo, blondie, shut up, we’re trying to do a murder trial here.” said Judge Killer.
“That’s him all right. Something tells me I’m in trouble.” whispered Nate.

The trial took a recess, and Nate and CD went back to their apartment. Nate laid on the bed watching LMN and eating rocky road ice cream. CD was on the computer.
“I still can not get over the man you stuffed in an over head storage compartment when we were on vacation is the same guy who is the judge of my murder trial.” said Nate.
“Oh, Nate, get over yourself. It’s no big deal. He probably doesn’t remember us.” said CD.
“He growled at me.” said Nate.
“That’s nice dear.” said CD. “Yes! Just as I knew it. Jena Clark doe not exist. She has no hospital records.” said CD.
“CD, I told you to stop hacking into people’s private files.” said Nate.
“Nate, live a little. Besides, this is for your own good. Jena Clark doesn’t not exist.” said CD.
“So?” asked Nate.
“Nate, you are so hopeless. I’ll be back in few hours.” said CD.

“Has the jury come to an agreement.” asked Judge Killer. Nate squirmed in his seat. Where was CD? He needed her.
“Wait, Judge Killer dude man, I have some evidence, that proves Nate Basso is not guilty!” yelled CD as she ran into the court room.
“How did you get in here? The guards aren’t supposed to let anyone in my court room after a trial is in process!” said Judge Killer.
“I flashed your guards.” said CD.
“CCCCCCCCDDDDDDDDD!” yelled Nate.
“Oh Nate, live a little! You don’t think I’d actually do that, would you? I only gave them hickeys.” said CD. “But that is not what’s important. What’s important is that Nate Basso is innocent, and I intend to prove so. Jena Clark doesn’t exist. But Jeanette DeLorenzo does.” said CD.
“Objection, you honor. What does this have to do with anything?” asked the prosecuting district attorney.
“Over ruled. This case is actually getting interesting.” said Judge Killer.
“Paul DeLorenzo is my ex-husband.” said CD. “A few years ago he left me for Jeanette, who he married and had a child with. However, a little bit ago he left her, and came back here to try to win me back. But I was engaged to be married to Nate Basso, the sweetest and hottest man alive. Nate went to the parking garage that night with every intent to kill Paul. But he didn’t. He left. But then somebody else came that night and killed Paul. And that person was Jeanette DeLorenzo. She ruined the security video so it only showed Nate beating up Paul. But after Nate left, and Paul limped out of the parking garage and into the elevator that leads to the apartment building, Jeanette followed Paul in. Then she killed him, and then she dragged his dead body to where he and Nate had been fighting. She thought of it all, except for the fact that there is another camera, that caught Jeanette follow Paul into the elevator, and taped her dragging his body out of it. And I have the tape in my hands that proves it all.”

“Nate Basso is not guilty, and all charges have been dropped.” said Judge Killer after having another meeting with the jury. Nate hugged CD.
“How did you ever figure that all out?” asked Nate.
“Hey, what are fiancee's for?” asked CD.

One month later:
“With this ring, as a sign of my un-dyeing love and affection , I thee wed.” said CD as she slipped a ring onto Nate’s finer.
“With this ring, as a sign of my un-dyeing love and affection, I thee wed.” said Nate, as he slipped a ring onto CD’s finger. Nate and CD decided that after all that stress over the trial, they didn’t need stressful wedding planning. So CD found a cute little chapel in the middle of no where, with nothing but trees around for miles. CD wore a beautiful white wedding dress. It had lace sleeves, and a big skirt with lace and bows all over it. Her bridesmaids wore lilac dresses, and they carried lilies of the valley. CD carried lilies of the valley too. Nate looked so handsome in his tuxedo.
“I pronounce you, husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.” said the pastor. Nate gave CD a big kiss. And after five minutes the pastor finally had to pull Nate and CD apart. They had a beautiful reception with all their friends in the Radisson hotel’s reception room. They had chicken and vegetables for dinner, and then Nate and CD cut the cake. Then it was time for Nate and CD’s first dance as husband and wife. After that CD threw her bouquet, and Nate threw CD’s garter. Around ten o’clock, Nate and CD excused themselves from the reception, and ran to their Radisson honey moon suit. Nate picked CD up, and carried her into the hotel for the first time, as husband and wife.

Nate and CD boarded the plane for their dream honey moom to the Bahamas. After their last vacation, Nate and CD both hoped this would be a good one. After the flight landed the two love birds could hardly remember being on the plane, since they spent the whole time making out.
"Hotel resevations for Basso. I'm Mrs. Basso. Nate Basso is my husband. I'm Mrs. Basso. We're married. Basso is my new last name. I'm Mrs. Basso. CD Basso. Candace Basso. Mrs. Nate Basso. Mrs. Nathan Basso." said CD at the front desk of the hotel.
"Let me guess. Honeymooners?" asked the clerk.
"How'd you figure it out?" said CD. Nate was nibbeling on CD's ear.
"I'm pschycic. But Mr. and Mrs. Basso, you are our millionth honeymooners, so you just won the honeymoon suit!" said the clerk.
"Did you here that, Mr. Basso?" asked CD.
"I sure did, Mrs. Basso. And I CAN"T wait to get in there." said Nate.
The next few days was a blur for Nate and CD. They didn't leave their room for four days straight. Married life was great.

“Good morning, baby.” said Nate. CD woke up laying in Nate’s arms. The honeymoon suite looked beautiful with the sun shining through the window.
“What time is it?” asked CD.
“It’s eleven a.m, sleepy head.” said Nate.
“Well excuse me from being tired from yesterday, Nate. It was only our wedding.” said CD with a smile. She leaned over and kissed Nate.
“Nate?”
“Yeah?”
“Why is your breath fresh?” asked CD.
“It isn’t.” replied Nate.
“Yes, it is. You got out of bed and brushed your teeth and pretended you woke up that way.” said CD.
“............ so?” asked Nate. CD laughed and kissed Nate again. Then she showered and dressed. Nate and CD spent the day in heaven. They went shopping, and took a boat ride, and went roller skating, and horseback ridding. For dinner Nate and CD ate at a little romantic restaurant, named Bon Appetite. Nate wore a suit, and CD wore a sleeveless black dress. There was a live band playing songs like, ‘when a man loves a woman,’ ‘isn’t it romantic,’ and ‘night and day.’ Nate and CD sat in a tiny booth in the corner.
“So what do you want to talk about?” asked Nate.
“I don’t know. We’ve been talking about stuff all day.” said CD as she sipped some champagne.
“What was your favorite t.v show as a child?” asked Nate.
“When I was really little I liked Brady Bunch. But that show was so unrealistic. Like how the parents brought their kids with them on their honey moon. What did the writers think people do on their honeymoon, play chess?” asked CD. Nate smiled.
“What was your favorite show as a teen?” asked Nate.
“Facts of Life! That was my absolute favorite show. You know, now that I think about it, Jinny kinda looks like Jo.” said CD.
“You think? I don’t see it.” said Nate. Nate and CD finished dinner, and had chocolate covered strawberries for dessert. Then Nate took CD on a surprise moonlit carriage ride. Nate and CD had never been this happy in their whole lives.

Five Months Later:

CD and Nate loved married life. They moved into a bigger apartement and had all their wedding presents arranged the way they wanted. On this winter night in January, Nate and CD stayed at home watching a movie. They couldn't belive how fast the last five months had flown by. Just then the phone rang.
"I'll get it." said CD as she got off the couch and answered te phone. "Hello? Oh hi, Jinny. What's up? Really? Where's Teddy? Okay we'll be right over." said CD.
"Was that Jinny?" asked Nate.
"Yeah. She's in labor." said CD.
"But she still has a few more weeks to go." said Nate.
"I know, but her water broke." said CD.
"Well where's Teddy?" asked Nate.
"He's on a buisness trip. So she asked if we could-" Nate interupted CD.
"I'll get my car keys."

Hours later Nate and CD were in the waiting room. CD had made a few phone calls, so Jack and all of Jinny's and Teddy's friends were there, not to mention everyone that works at the division and a few strangers off the street.
"CD, do you think you should have invited all these people?" asked Nate.
"Yes, Jinny will be very touched that so many people care." said CD.
"CD, most of these people don't care. Like the only reason the strangers are here is because you threatened them." said Nate. CD opened her mouth but just then Dr.Debbie walked out. Dr.Debbie is Jinny's doctor.
"Is Jinny all right?" asked Nate.
"The baby's heartbeat wasn't very strong, so we did a seasection. But Jinny's out of sergury now, and she and the baby are all right." said Dr.Debbie.
"What was the baby?" asked CD.
"It's a healthy beautiful baby girl." said Dr.Debbie.

Jinny named her baby girl MacKenzie. Two months later Jinny was ready to come back to work and do paperwork. Jinny wasn’t ready to part with MacKenzie yet, so she brought her with.
“Oh my gosh! I can’t believe how big she’s gotten!” said CD . It was a cold day in March. Most of the snow had melted, but there were still parts of the ground with dirty slush that used to be snow. Jinny had brought with MacKenzie to work again, and as long as she did paperwork and wasn’t out investigating everything was okay.
“Yeah, I can’t believe how much she has grown in two months.” said Jinny.
“She’s so cute! I wish I had a little one just like her.” said CD.
“Well, are you going to do something about that? You and Nate have been together forever. Besides, you’d make such a great Mom” said Jinny. CD smiled.
“Well I have thought about it.” said CD. She put her hand on her stomach.
“CD, you look kinda pale. Are you feeling all right?” asked Jinny.
“Of course. I just have a stomach ache. I think it’s just cramps. I’m going to go find an aspirin.” said CD right before she walked away.
“Hey Jinny, what’s up?” asked Magda. She walked up to her desk across from Jinny and sat down.
“CD’s pregnant!” said Jinny happily.
“You’re kidding!” said Magda.
“I’m totally serious. She just told me a second ago.” said Jinny.
“She actually said the words, ‘I’m pregnant?’” asked Magda.
“Not in those words exactly, but she totally hinted towards it.” said Jinny.
“This is great! I know, let’s throw her a surprise baby-shower. It will be so much fun!” said Magda.

"Congratulations!" Said Jinny in a loud voice when Nate walked into the office that morning. Jinny threw her arms around Nates neck and gave him a huge hug.
"Um, thanks. " said Nate As Jinny pulled away from the hug. "But, congratulations about what? "
"Nate, you and CD don' have to hide it anymore. Everyone knows." said Jinny.
"Knows what?" Asked Nate.
"That you're going to have a baby!" Said Jinny.
"CD and I are what?!" yelled Nate.
"Pregnant. Didn't you know this?" asked Jinny.
"Do I really look like I already knew?" asked Nate.

Word got out about CD's 'pregnancy’ fast. The plans for CD's surprise baby shower got done even faster. Everyone was always smiling at CD and giving her knowing glances. It was freacking out CD. Nate and everyone else acted like they didn't know CD was pregnant. One day about a month later CD was doing work at her desk when Captain came out of her office and called CD over. CD walked into Kate's office, closed the door and sat down.
"You wanted to see me?" asked CD.
"Yes. Now, I know tomorrow is your day off, but I really need you here tomorrow." said Kate.
"Tomorrow? But tomorrow is Saturday! Nate and I have plans!" said CD.
"Well I'm sorry, CD, but you're behind in the case you're on." said Kate.
"Why can't you make Nate work tomorrow?" asked CD.
"CD, I have made my decision, you can quit, our you can be here tomorrow at eight a.m sharp." Said Kate.
"Fine I'll be here at eight a.m sharp." mummbled CD as she left Kates office. CD walked over to her desk and sat down, and did some paper work as she mumbled under her breath. Kate walked out of ther office and gave Magda and Jinny a thumbs up, then walked back into her office.

The next day at seven a.m, Jinny, Magda, Captain and Nate arrived at the office. Jinny and Magda put up decorations, and Captain helped Nate make the punch.
"So CD doesn't care that you left this morning to do the 'plans' you made together while she's stuck here 'working'?" asked Kate.
"No, I explained everything calmly to her, she understands, and is okay with this." said Nate. Just then his cellphone went off.
"Nate, that's the sixth time that's gone off in the past five minutes. Are you going to pick it up?" asked Magda.
"No way, it's CD. She's going to yell at me for having a fun while she has to go into 'work'. said Nate.
"She's okay with it, huh?" said Kate under her breath.
Nate, Jinny, Magda and Kate kept on putting up more decorations while the guests showed up. Nate's parents even flew in for the party. The hour past by quickly, and finally it was eight a.m. Magda peeked out the window.
"She's here! CD's here!" she yelled with excitment. Everyone hid behind, desks, chairs, and anything they could find to hide behind. CD walked in.
"Hello?" she said.
"Surprise!" Everyone jumped out of their hiding spot and yelled. CD smiled and walked over to Nate.
"Nate, sweetie, you do know my birthday isn't for a while, right?" she asked.
"CD, this isn't a birthday party, this is a surprise baby shower." said Nate.
"For who?" asked CD, a little scared.
"For you, silly!" said Nate.
"Um, Nate, I don't know how to tell you this, but I'm not-" CD tried to finish her sentence but was cut off.
"CD, come have some punch. It isn't even spiked!" said Jinny, a grin from ear to ear.
"That's very thoughtful but I was trying to tell Nate that I'm not-" CD got interupted again.
"It's presents time! Open mine first!" yelled Magda. Before CD knew what had happened, she had been thrown into a chair and was surrounded by presents. Magda was unrapping most of them.
"I just thought you'd be too overwhelmed to do it yourself." her explenation was.
"I really need to tell you all something." said CD.
"Look! I got you a DVD player!" yelled Magda as she shoved a DVD player in CD's lap.
"And you got a three hundred dollar gift certificate to a baby clothes store, and......." Magda rattled off all the wonderful and expencive gifts she and Nate got. CD just sat in her seat.
"CD, are you okay? There's some caffiene free coffe if you want." said Jinny.
"No, I'm okay." said CD.
"I'm sorry, baby, you were saying something." said Nate.
CD thought to herself. "This isn't fair I have to let all these people down and it's not my fault. Nate's parents even flew in. I hope they don't expect to stay with us. Besides, then I'd have to give back all these gifts. And maybe I could get pregnant really soon," CD thought.
"I just wanted to say, I'm so happy to be pregnant!" said CD

CD really didn't want to have to give back all the gifts, but she didn't want to lie to Nate either. She'd rather have the gifts, however. After two weeks and no pregnancy, CD became scared that maybe she wouldn't get pregnant before people became suspicious, and then she'd look like a jerk AND have to give back the gifts.
"This is no good." CD thought to herself. She could feel Nate becoming suspicious. And finally, CD knew it was all up. She knew know the truth would come spilling out. She realized this all when Nate told her they 'needed to talk'.
"CD, I don't want you to get defensive, but tell me the truth, are you hiding something from me?"
"Why, Nate, whatever do you mean?" CD squeaked out nervously.
"Don't play stupid with me. I know you are hiding something from me. And I bet I know what it is." said Nate. CD decided to come clean.
"Let me explain Nate. I didn't plan it this way, it just happened." Nate couldn't belive his ears.
"You didn't plan it this way? It just happened? that's the best you can come up with? CD, you told me that The Prince and Me hadn't come out on video and DVD. You lied, CD. LIED!"
"Oh, is that all?" asked CD.
"Is that all? Is that all?" Nate was enraged.
"Gosh, don't get your shorts in a knot. I'm sorry. Besides, don't yell at me. I'm an expectent Mother, remember?" said CD. She began rubbing her belly and softly sobbing.
"Aww, CD, don't cry. I'm sorry, CD. Don't cry. How is the baby anyway?" asked Nate, now feeling ashamed for yelling at her.
"The baby is fine, thank you." replied CD.
"You know, you still haven't got any bigger in the stomach area." said Nate.
"I know. It runs in my family." CD quickly made up. "My mom was eight months along with me before she started showing!"

"CD, I'm afraid that your job is too stressful and will hurtthe baby." said Nate. Nate had been come a caution freak ever since he found out CD was 'pregnant.' He was always opening doors for CD, and talking at her stomach, and other such things. CD thought it as sweet, but also she was becoming more annoyed each day. No caffiene, and she didn't remember the last time she heard popular music or see an episode of her favorite television programs. Nate said that music that wasn't nature sounds, and television programs that were just plain evil to the growing brain. He also took away her cell phone. At this rate, CD didn't WANT to get pregnant. BUt then she'd have to return the DVD player with surround sound..........
"Great, book it. But it can't be Carolina!"
"Don't worry!" said Nate. "I was thinking we could drive to a nature preserve, and have a picnic of organicly grown carrots and celery. Only vegetables. Fruit has too much sugar in it."
"You want to DRIVE to a NATURE PRESERVE and eat ORGANICLY GROWN NON-FRIUTS?" said CD.
Nate starred at her and gave her a weird look. "Um,...yeah? Is that a problem?"
"Yes, I'd say it is! First of all, what's wrong with flying? Second of all, nature perserve? What would we do in a natur perserve all day. And I'm not even going to GET into third of all!" yelled CD.
"CD! Don't yell! It will stress the baby! And flying can hurt the baby, there is lots of relaxing to do at a nature preserve. You can to yoga for pregnant women!" said Nate as calmly as he could, as not to stress the baby.
"Well, that would be perfect for a pregnant woman, if I was a pregnant woman!"
"CD, I'm confused."
"I'm not pregnant Nate! I'm sorry, but I'm not pregnant." said CD. She starred at her shoes.
"Oh, I know what this is. Pregnany mood swings!" said NAte

Nate simply wouldn't belive that CD wasn't pregnant. And she intended to prove it. So she took over arrangments for their up coming vacation, and then she booked a doctors appointment for Nate to go with on.
"Is this the baby's first ultrasound?" asked Nate on the way to the hospital. CD had to fight with Nate to let her use a car as her form of transportation to the hospital. "Cars can be a dangerous thing to be in." Nate would say. "They say it's safer to ride in a plane then be in a car." "So you'd let me take a plane to the hospital?" CD would argue. "Hah hah CD. We're not going over THIS again are we? Planes are dangerous and send dangerous signals that can hurt the baby's-" and Nate would be off on one of his rants again. CD shuttereted to think what would happen if she really does get pregnant.
"No, Nate. I'm not preganant. There's no baby. There is however an ultrasound. To show you I'm not pregnant." said CD.
Nate replied, "Whatever you say, Dear." Finally they reached the hospital. They took an ultrasound, and much to CD's dissapointment, Nate still didn't belive CD wasn't preganant. "Th man's obssessed with my un-existing baby." thought CD.
"Don't you worry. That quack hadn't the slightest idea what he was doing. We'll get a second opinion." Nate said and patted CD's knee as they drove home.
"Don't touch me." CD said grumpily. She knew her girls at work would understand.

"Wow. That's strange." said Jinny when CD told her.
"YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT PREGNANT?" screamed Magda.
"Not last time I checked, no. And yes, very strange. I've about had it with him." said CD, glareing at the floor as if it was Nate she was starring at.
"SO THE DVD PLAYER WITH SURROUND SOUND? YOU JUST TOOK IT?" screamed Magda. She looked as though she would lunge from her chair and choke CD.
"I didn't take them. They were given to me!" cried CD. This whole Nate thing and now Magda was screaming at her for trying to come clean. It was more than CD can handle.
"Don't cry, CD." said Jinny soothingly. Much like a Mother would talk to her crying daughter. "Have you tried talking to him."
"Yes, of course." said CD. "I even had an ultrasound with him standing next to me the entire time. Nothing will convince him." CD dried her tears with a tissue.
"Men can go through denile when it comes to the word 'baby'." said Magda who had finally decided to cool it for now and stop yelling at CD.
"You've had one kid and suddendly you're an expert on how men react to pregnancies?" asked CD rather coldly to her own surprise.
"I'm sorry, Magda, I didn't mean that." said CD more tears forming to her eyes. Magda snorted and walked away.
"Don't worry about her. She's an idiot." said Jinny. CD smiled. "As I said, don't worry; I have a plan!"

"As I said, don't worry; I have a plan! About Nate, that is."
"Really? What is it?" CD practicly jumped on Jinny, trying to get the information out of her faster.
"What is it?! What is it?!" CD jumped around like a child.
"If you calm down, I'll tell you." said Jinny laughing. CD emidietly calmed down.
"Look, I had MacKenzie's birth video taped. All you have to do, is show Nate the tape, explain that your are NOT pregnant, and trust me, he'll snap out of it." said Jinny. She walked over to her desk and pulled a tape out of her drawer and handed it to CD.
"I don't know. Sounds kinda cruel." said CD, worridly.
"It's not cruel. Just do as I say and no If's And's or But's about it, Missy, or you can go straight to your room!" said Jinny. Her eyes looked like she meant what she said.
"Dude......" said CD and trailed off.
"I know, weird. I was just practicing for when MacKenzie becomes a teen." CD and Jinny laughed.
"But seriously, just show Nate the video. It will work." said Jinny.
"Jinny, your a really good friend of mine but, Sweetie, there's a reason I didn't become a women's doctor if you know what I mean. You do know where babies come out of, right?"
"Uh yeah, CD I think I figured that little lifes' mystery out when I was in labor for an entire day with MacKenzie. Just do it, okay?" Jinny was getting huffy. CD knew this was one argument she wasn't going to win.
"Yeah, fine."

"Babe, I'm really confused to why you won't believe that I'm not pregnant, so let's get down to the point. I'm going to put a movie in, and when it's over, I think we'll have a, well, healthier relationship."
"I hope the movie it educational, for the baby, of course." Nate smiled and CD put the tape in the VCR. The room filled with Jinny's voice, and the things she said during childbirth.
"FLIPPING MOTHER OF@!#%**~`! SON OF A $%^^&^#!" screamed Jinny.
"Wait, I reconize that voice. Hey, that's EEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" screached Nate. He jumped over the back of the couch and covered his eyes with his hands.
"Make it stop! Make it stop!" yelled Nate. CD turned the tape off.
"I'm sorry you had to see that, Nate. But I had to. Now can you please explain why you have been insane the past few days?"
"Damn't, CD. I found you birth test in the garbage a month ago. I knew you weren't pregnant. I was just mad that you lied to me like that." said Nate.
"I'm sorry I lied to you." CD whispered. She walked over and hugged him.
"But I really do want a baby." she laid her head on his shoulder.
"I want a baby, too." said Nate. CD took Nate by the hand and lead him to the bedroom. And that night, Nate and CD attempted to make their vary own Nate or CD jr. (corny, I know, but I couldn't resist lol)

Okay, so probably no one will read this. But hey, I wanted to finish this fic so I'm going to. If anyone is reading this, enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kate McCaffrey wasn’t looking forward to her Thanksgiving. Louis had ordered her not to go to her daughters house. He didn’t have any family, so he didn’t see why he had to spend his holiday with hers. Everyday Kate grew more and more scared of Louis’s temper. She had suggested couple therapy like CD had told her too, but Louis wouldn’t permit it. He wouldn’t even let Kate get therapy for herself. In fact, Louis wouldn’t let Kate do anything. She had become a hostage in her own home. This was ridiculous! Kate was a cop! She missed her job, her life. She wasn’t going to take another moment of this crap from Louis. Kate put down the sandwich she had been making for Louis and stormed into the living room.
“Where’s my lunch?” Louis growled when he saw Kate standing there. Louis was laying on the couch watching t.v. This is where he spent most of his days now. Sitting on the couch, yelling at the t.v. about a touchdown our something.
“Well? Where is it?” Louis said crossly. Kate opened her mouth, but no words came out.
I’ve had it with you, Louis! Get out of my house! These words repeated over and over in Kate’s mind, but still nothing was said. Kate finally got control of herself.
“What kind of chips do you want?” she whispered.
“Pringles. Now speak up from now on. I’m an old man, Kate. My hearing is bad enough as it is without you going around and whispering everything you say.”
“Yes, Louis. You’re lunch is almost ready, Louis.” Kate said more loudly. Then she rushed into the kitchen.
Once safely out of the presence of Louis, Kate broke down into tears. What had she ever seen in him? And what was wrong with her? Why couldn’t she tell Louis to get lost? She had been a cop for a long time. She had dealt with tough prisoners who had down cruel crimes. Why couldn’t she handle a simple case of a massive jerk with a short temper? Why?
This was Nate and CD’s first Thanksgiving together as a married couple. They had arranged to go to a ski lodge for the holiday. They had been planning this vacation since CD’s pretend pregnancy. Ever since the truth had come out, CD and Nate had been trying to have a real baby. But nothing was happening. CD was frustrated. Maybe this vacation would make her more relaxed. She really wanted a baby. Everyone she knew had a baby. Magda had a baby! Well, sorta. Jinny had a baby! Why didn’t CD have a baby?
“All ready to go babe?” Nate asked as he walked into the bedroom. CD jumped.
“I didn’t hear you come in.” she said. CD slammed the suitcase shut and locked it.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” Nate said. He pulled the suitcase off the bed and put it on the ground. CD sat on the bed and Nate sat down beside her.
“Lots of couples have trouble getting pregnant, CD. Everything is going to be okay.” he said comfortingly as he patted her knee. CD sighed.
“I guess. But Nate, lots of other couples didn’t have their tubes tide then untied. The doctor said I might never conceive.”
“You’ll conceive.” he said.
“How do you know?” CD asked questioningly.
“Because I know.”
“How do you know?” she said exasperated.
“Because we love each other, and we’ll love our kid. So any baby would be lucky do have us as his or her parents.” he said confidently. CD hugged his arm.
“You really think we’ll be good parents?” she asked.
“Remember that one case, were you found the baby in the restaurant bathroom?” he asked. CD nodded.
“Well, I didn’t say anything, but I was scared to death of the thing. She was little, so dependent on me to take care of her. But she trusted me. Anyway, you knew exactly what to and took over. That’s how I know you’ll be a good mom.” he said. CD smiled.
“You’ll be a great dad.” she said.
“I hope so. I was so scared of the baby, but it was a good feeling. You know?” he looked at her.
“I know.” she smiled. Nate sighed and stood up.
“I guess we better go.” he said. CD stood up.
“Yeah, I guess.”
It had been four days since Kate had been into the division, and Raina was worried sick. She knew Captain didn’t have any plans for Thanksgiving. Besides, even if she did she wouldn’t have taken Wednesday off. Raina put on her coat and hurried out of the division. She got into her car and sped down the street. Soon she was at a red light about three miles away from the division. As the light turned green Raina started to pull into the intersection. Suddenly a car came out of nowhere and crashed into her passenger side. Raina was able to drive the car into a near parking lot. The guy that hit her followed after her. Raina parked and jumped out of the car.
“I’m glad this car belongs to the division and not me.” she said to herself. Raina was in such a hurry to get to Captain’s apartment she took a cop car instead of taking her own.
“Oh crap, I hit a cop.” the guy that hit her car said from behind her. Raina turned around.
“You had a red light.” she said.
“And you are very attractive.” he said.
“Okay, sad flirting will get you nowhere. Licence and registration, please.” she said as she held out her hand. The stranger took her hand and turned it over, then kissed the top of it.
“I’m Michael.” he said. Raina quickly pulled her hand away.
“Great, now I have to find somewhere to wash my hands.” she muttered. Michael laughed.
“You’re funny.” he said.
“No, I’m pissed. Now show me your drivers licence before I arrest you.” she said.
Michael quickly pulled his wallet out of his pocket and produced his licence. Raina snatched it from his hand. She quickly read it, including his married/single status. He was single. Michael went back to the car to get the registration. When he brought it back, he gave it to Raina.
“This car isn’t registered to you.” she said after she read it.
“I know, it’s my brothers.” he said.
“He has another last name.” Raina said.
“Brother-in-law.” he said. Raina rolled her eyes. It was so obvious. This guy had stolen a car, was on his way out of town, and was now trying to charm his way out of being arrested.
“Okay, hands behind your back, right now.” she said. Michael did as he was told.
“Is there a problem, officer?” he asked as Raina escorted him to the back of her cop car.
“Wow, you’re a smart one.” she said sarcastically as she slammed his door shut.
“Weren’t you supposed to put hand cuffs on me?” he asked as she climbed into the drivers seat.
“I don’t believe you’re dangerous. Besides, I don’t have any on me.”she admitted.
“Weren’t you supposed to check and make sure I don’t have a gun?” he pressed on.
“Hey, stop telling me how to do my job!” she said. Michael studied Raina’s reflection in the rearview mirror.
“Can I ask you something?” he asked.
“Go ahead, but watch yourself.” she warned.
“Would you consider going out with me?” he asked. Raina laughed.
“I don’t have dates in jail cells. And that’s where you’re going. For a very long time.” she said.
“I don’t think it will be a problem getting out of this mess.” Michael said. Raina chuckled. This guy sure was full of himself. Raina escorted Michael into the division and into a holding cell.
“I know my rights. I get one phone call.” Michael said right as Raina was about to slide his cell’s door closed. Raina rolled her eyes.
“Follow me.” she muttered.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Jinny, Teddy, Jack and MacKenzie were at the doctor's office. This was the day that they found out who MacKenzie's father was. Jinny had a mix of emotions. She had been in love with Teddy. She loved how they had gotten back together about a year ago. She had also loved staying with him the past few months. But then there was Jack. She also had loved Jack. She had loved dating him and marrying him. She also loved how they had been together even after their divorce. What would happen between her and Macknzie's father? One thing she knew for sure, one of the two men sitting with her she would never see again. Just then a nurse walked into the waiting room.
"Miss Exstead, I have your results if you want to follow me."

That's all for now, hope the Raina stuff wasn't too boring. It will get more interesting!

It was Thanksgiving day. Kate and Louis were about to sit down to dinner. Louis had actually let Kate out of her apartment long enough to buy groceries for their dinner. Just as Louis walked into the dinning room, the door knocked. Kate leaped to get it. She knew exactly who it was. She raced to the front door and Louis was close on her heels.
“Oh my, Ross*? Is that you?” she asked.
“Get out of my home.” Louis hissed.
“My home.” Kate reminded him. Ross let himself into the apartment.
“Shut up.” Louis said.
“That’s it.” Ross said. He grabbed Louis’s arms and wrested him into the hall.
“Get off me, old man!” Louis shouted.
“Who you calling old?” Ross asked as he pushed Louis into an empty elevator. The elevator doors closed carrying Louis away with it. Kate laughed and walked back into the apartment. Ross closed the door after himself after they entered the apartment. He locked all the locks.

“You’ll never get rid of him.” he said.
“I know, but it’s a start.” Kate smiled. Ross had brought with some food from his restaurant. Kate threw away all the food she had made. She didn’t want it. It was what Louis had wanted for dinner.
“Thanks for the help.” Kate said as they ate.
“Oh, it’s no big deal. You were the person that thought up the plan. I’m just glad I was included in the plan.” he said. Kate smiled. She had plenty to be thankful for that Thanksgiving.

Nate and CD had been at the ski lodge for one day, and Nate already had a cold. It wasn’t Nate’s fault, of course, but CD didn’t care. He had all but ruined their vacation for all that she cared.
“Why can’t we ever have normal vacations?” CD asked as she and Nate laid in bed.
“CD, I’m sorry I’m sick. But I’ll never get better if I don’t get some rest.” Nate said.
“What’s it matter? We have to back at the division by Monday. Our vacation will be over by the time you get better. We might as well go home now.” she complained.
“Fine. We’ll leave tomorrow morning. But I need to sleep now.” Nate said with his eyes closed.
“I don’t want to go home. I want to go skiing with my husband.” she said. Nate rolled over to look as CD.
“I want to go skiing with my wife, but I am sick, okay? I didn’t choose to be sick, it just happened. Now shut up and let me sleep.” he said. CD blinked back tears. How could Nate have been so mean. Nate rolled over and closed his eyes. CD jumped out of bed and ran into the bathroom.

Of course it wasn’t Nate’s fault he was sick. She was just being ridiculous. But she felt moody lately. CD washed her face and brushed her teeth. She glanced at her watch laying on the counter. She had only been in their five minutes. She was too embarrassed at how childish she had acted out their she couldn’t go to bed until she was sure Nate was asleep. What was she going to do? It would take Nate at least fifteen minutes to fall asleep. There was nothing to do. Fifteen minutes would take forever. CD sighed and walked over to her cosmetic bag. She had packed tons of pregnancy tests. CD knew she wasn’t pregnant, she just checked yesterday. But she was bored. She needed something to do. Five minutes later CD walked over to the little stick. She glanced at it expecting to see what she had been seeing since she and Nate decided to become parents.
Oh, my God! She thought.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Raina was driving home from spending dinner with her parents. She couldn’t believe how stupid she had been the other day. Arresting Michael as so on. With his one call he called his brother-in-law. His broth-in-law turned out to be the police chief of the next town over. Raina winced as she thought about her mistake. How could she have been so stupid? All she had to have done was put his licence plate number into the computer in the cop car and she would have known who he really was. Raina parked her car and walked into her apartment building. There, in the lobby waiting for her was Michael. Raina walked up to him.
“You’re stalking me.” Raina grinned.
“If that’s what it takes to see you again.” he smiled “Listen, I how about we go get some coffee? Not as a date, but as two people who want to get to know each other better.” he said. Raina shrugged.
“Look, I know I pressured you yesterday to go on a date with me. The truth is I don’t want to go on a date anymore. I really like you, but right now what I really need it a friend.” he said Raina sighed.
“You owe me, after arresting me for a non-legitimate reason.” he said. Raina smiled.
“Okay, let’s go.” As soon as they got into her car and drove away, they realized it was Thanksgiving night, no coffee places were open. They ended up in a grocery store that had a café. Michael treated Raina to her coffee.
“So what’s your story. How come suddenly you’re no longer interested in dating me?” Raina asked as they sat down at a table with their coffee.
“You really want to know?” he asked as he sipped his coffee. Raina nodded.
“Well, I don’t live in San Francisco. This is temporary. I used to live in New Orleans.” Michael began. Raina nodded. She immediately knew she had underestimated this guy. He had probably been through a lot.
“My entire family and I lived there. Including my wife.” he added looking down. Raina was shocked.
“Everyone but my sister and her husband. They live here.” he said. Raina put her arm around his shoulder to comfort him. It was obviously hard for him to say.
“ After the hurricane we were all stuck in my parents house. After three days, I left to go find help. I was rescued, but when I sent some help to my parents house, it was too late. Everyone had died.” Michael blinked away tears, not wanting to cry in front of Raina.
“My wife and I were already separated at that point, but I still really miss her. Anyway, you really look like her. A lot. So that’s why I asked you out yesterday, but I’m not going to use you like that. And I just realized how weird it would be to date someone I only asked out because she looks like my dead wife.” Michael laughed.
“I’m really sorry, Michael.” Raina said soothingly.
“I hope I didn’t sound too pathetic.” he said. Raina sipped her coffee.
“You don’t sound pathetic at all.” she said.
“Thanks for having coffee with me.” Michael smiled.
“Thanks for asking me.” Raina smiled back.
Jinny had just gotten home from having dinner at her dad’s house. As she put MacKenzie to bed she thought about the events that had occurred the other day. Finally she knew who MacKenzie’s father was. This would turn her life upside down. Everything was going to change. But maybe it was all for the better. Jinny hadn’t always been a big fan of change, but change can be good. She didn’t want to have to give up her liquor, but it was a change for the better. She didn’t want to get pregnant, have a big stomach and then support another person, but she couldn’t imagine her life without MacKenzie now. Finally MacKenzie was asleep. Jinny stood in front of her crib and watched her sleep. Just then someone came in behind her.
“Hey, is our little girl asleep?” he asked as he put his arms around her waist. Jinny smiled. She had missed his hugs. Jinny tuned around and gave him a kiss.
“Yes, Jack. Our daughter is asleep.” she grinned.
The next afternoon CD waited for Nate to get back form the doctor’s office. His cold had gotten really bad, and the cold medicine wasn’t helping. She couldn’t wait to tell him the good news. She had set the perfect setting to tell him: a roaring fire, soft music on and a table of sweets. As CD watched a Full House rerun on t.v. Nate came in. CD turned off the t.v. and raced over to Nate.
“Hey, baby.” she said as she leaned in for a kiss. Nate pushed her off.
“No, CD. The doctor says I’m contagious.” he said. He took off his coat and hung it up.
“Nate, come over here and have something to eat.” CD said as she took his hand and lead him to the table.
“CD, I’m tired, I’m sick, I want to go to sleep.” he said groggily.
“Nate, I have some news. You’ll probably want to be awake for this.” she grinned.
“Can this wait? I am really tired.” he said as he changed into his pajamas.
“No, Nate. It can’t wait. Why don’t you come sit in front of the fire.” she said.
“I don’t want to sit in front of the fire. Now will you spit out what is so important already?” he asked as he sat down on the foot of the bed. CD looked at him. He wasn’t in the mood for this anyway. He was ruining it for her. CD shook her head.
“It doesn’t matter, I’ll tell you later.” she said.
“Just tell me.” he said as he stood up.
“No.” she said angrily as she cleaned off the table.
“Geeze, CD. Just tell me already. Why do you have to be so difficult?” he said angrily. CD put down what she was doing and turned to look at Nate.
“Because that’s how pregnant women act!” she shouted. Then she ran into the bathroom and locked the door.
Nate chased after her but soon realized she had locked the door. He repeatedly knocked on it.
“CD? CD! Open the door! Please?” he begged.
“No!” he heard CD say as she sobbed.
“Baby, I’m sorry! Open the door.” he said. After a minute of silence he stopped knocking. As he took a step away from the door he heard the it click. He turned around to see CD open the door. He ran over to her and hugged her.
“You’re pregnant? You’re really pregnant?” he asked. CD started laughing.
“Yes, the test was positive. I’m pregnant!” she squealed after she had pulled away from the hug.
“How long have you known?” he asked as he lead CD to a chair.
“Since last night. I couldn’t wait to tell you.” she said. They sat there in silence soaking up the moment.
“I love you, CD.” Nate broke the silence.
“I love you too.” she grinned
Raina couldn’t believe how fast she had fallen in love with Michael. It was almost a month since they had first met. He was perfect. Well, almost. He was still on this whole “let’s just be friends.” thing. Raina understood he had just lost his wife, but he had said they were already separated when she died. Raina wanted him to hurry up and finish mourning already! That evening she had Michael over to her house for dinner. She had set a table lit by candlelight and made pasta. She was wearing a cute little black dress. Tonight was the night they would become truthful about their feelings, she knew it. As she put on some soft music, she heard a knock on the door.
“Hey.” she said with a grin as she answered the door. Raina leaned in for a kiss but Michael turned it into a hug. Raina rolled her eyes.
“Raina, I can’t see a dang thing.” he said as he turned the lights on ruining the romantic setting the candles gave. Raina tried to let that not bother her.
“The table is beautiful.” Michael said as Raina brought the pasta over to the table. Michael immediately dove into the food.
“So, how was your day?” Raina asked.
“Hey, Raina? Can I have some water?” he asked as he nodded towards the wine. “I have to drive home, you know.”
“Sure.” she said as she poured him some water. “But you know, you can spend the night if you want, I don’t mind.”
“What good would that do? None of my stuff is here.” he said.
“Here’s your water.” she said as she put a glass of water in front of him. Raina was getting more and more upset, and it was starting to show.
“Raina, you seem upset. How about a massage?” Michael asked. Raina smiled.
“That would be awesome, thanks.”
“Cool. I know this really nice place that my sister goes to. I’ll tell her to call you and tell you all about it.” he said.
“Oh, that’s just.....awesome.” Raina said through gritted teeth.
Jack scanned all the jewelry cases with his eyes. He was looking for an engagement ring for Jinny. It fault odd to be preparing to propose again, but here he was. And he had to get her a perfect ring.
“Can I help you?” he heard a woman’s voice say.
“Maybe in a minute. I’m still looking.” Jack said. As he looked up at the women who had spoken he noticed she looked a little familiar. “Do I know you?” he asked.
“I’m Dr. Debbie. Jinny’s doctor.” she smiled.
“Oh, yeah.” Jack said. “I’m just doing some shopping.”
“My husband owns this place, I’m just helping him out.” Dr. Debbie explained to a disinterested Jack.
“Who’s the lucky girl? I noticed that you’re looking at rings.” Debbie said.
“Oh, well. Can you keep a secret?” Jack asked worriedly.
“I’m a doctor. Confidentially is my specialty.” she smiled.
“I’m going to propose to Jinny.” Jack said with a big grin. Dr. Debbie cheered and applauded.
“Finally! I thought it would never happen.” she said. Then her smile faded to a serious expression. “If you need me I’ll be in the backroom.” Jack just nodded as Dr. Debbie disappeared through a door. Then he went back to looking at the ring display.
Jinny sat on the floor of MacKenzie’s room playing with MacKenzie. Just then the phone rang. Jinny got up to answer it.
“Hello?”
“Hello, Jinny. It is I, Dr. Debbie.” a cheerful voice rang through the phone. Jinny groaned.
“Hello, Dr. Debbie. How you doing?” Jinny tried to sound pleased to hear from her.
“Not as well as you.” Dr. Debbie said.
“How’s that?” Jinny asked.
“Jack is at my husband’s jewelry store, right now, looking for an engagement.” Jinny’s heart leapt.
“Oh really? For whom?”
“For you, silly.” Dr. Debbie shook her head. Good thing Jinny didn’t decide to become a doctor. She wasn’t very smart.
“Ar-are you sure?” Jinny asked.
“Yeah, he just admitted it to me! Oh, I got to go, he wants to purchase one. You’re so lucky!” and then Dr. Debbie hung up. Jinny stood there for a moment. Did she want to marry Jack again? Was it the right thing to do? Should she just do it for MacKenzie?
It was the day before Christmas eve, and Jinny was becoming more and more worried. Jack hadn’t proposed yet, and Jinny feared that he had changed his mind. What if he had? She still wasn’t sure if she would say yes or not. They had a kid together, yes. But they had already tried the marriage thing. What if it ended in divorce, again? Jinny kept thinking this over and over as she made dinner. Just then Jack came home.
“Hey, baby. That smells good.” Jack said as he came over and gave Jinny a kiss on the cheek.
“Thanks.” she grinned as she turned around to look at him.
“Jinny,” Jack began. “I have something to ask you.”
“Oh, really?” Jinny asked as she extended her hand towards him so he could put the ring on it.
“Um, yeah.” Jack said as he stared awkwardly at her hand. Jinny grinned. She hadn’t been sure before, but she was sure now. Jack was the man she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
“Do you think you could get a babysitter for MacKenzie tomorrow night? I know it’s Christmas eve, and a babysitter will be really expensive, but I think it will be worth it.” he smiled.
“Oh.” Jinny said as she withdrew her hand. “Sure, I’ll try to get a babysitter.” she was disappointed. He hadn’t proposed. But he had said tomorrow night was important. Maybe he was going to propose on Christmas eve. How romantic! Jinny ran to the phone to find a babysitter.
The next evening Jinny and Jack went out for dinner. It was gorgeous. A jazz orchestra played Christmas carols. The wine was great, and Jinny was enjoying eager for Jack to propose. She had decided that when Jack proposed that she would say yes. After all, she had loved him at one time and she suspected that she had never stopped loving him. It would work out perfect. They wouldn’t have a Rachel/Ross thing going on anymore and MacKenzie would grow up with her father in her life. All that was left was for Jack to ask the big question. He had already purchased the ring and Jinny couldn’t imagine a more beautiful place to get engaged then where they were dining.
But when during the meal was he going to ask her? How would he ask her? How would he present the ring? Just then their waitress brought them the food.
“Jinny, are you okay? You’ve been a bit quiet.” Jack asked her.
“What?” Jinny looked at him startled. She had been thinking so hard about how he was going to propose that she hadn’t heard a word he’d said since they left home. She smiled.
“No, I’m fine. Perfectly fine.” she assured him. Jack just nodded and started to eat his food. Jinny ignored her food still concentrating on the proposal.
“Jack?” she asked.
“Yes?” he asked with a mouthful of food.
“Is there anything in particular that you wanted to discuss? Perhaps while you knelt on one knee?” she asked. Jack shook his head.
“I don’t think so.” he said as he washed down his food with his water. Jinny looked down at her food angrily. Maybe Dr. Debbie had been wrong Maybe Jack wasn’t going to propose. Maybe the ring was for another woman! Jinny shook her head. That was a silly thought. Jack spent all his free time with her and the baby.
Just then Jinny realized that Jack may have had the ring hidden in her food. Jinny hastily lifted her fork and dissected her meal. Carefully she moved all her food around until she was certain that everything there was edible. Jack cleared his throat. Jinny looked up.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You haven’t taken one bite of your food.” he said. Jinny noticed he had finished eating and realized how long it had taken her to look for the ring.
“Um, I’m not that hungry.” she said as she pushed the plate away from herself. “Why don’t we just order dessert?” she suggested.
“Dessert. That sounds like a good idea.” Jack said. A waitress walked by and Jack ordered a chocolate mousse for the both of them.
“Ooh, chocolate mousse.” Jinny said after the waitress walked away with the orders. “Is there a reason you wanted me to have chocolate mousse?”
“No, no reason.” Jack simply said. Just then his napkin fell to the ground. He knelt down on one knee to pick it up. As he looked up he saw Jinny had an ecstatic expression on her face.
“Jinny?” he asked worriedly.
“Yes!” she shouted. “Yes Jack!”
“Yes what?” he asked as he sat back down in his seat. Jinny noticed that he didn’t give her the ring and that he had retrieved a napkin. Perhaps he wasn’t proposing quite yet.
“Um, I’m going to go the bathroom.” she said.
As soon as Jinny was safely inside the women’s restroom she took out her cell phone from her purse. She tried to call Magda but there was no answer. Frustrated she called Raina. She didn’t know who else to call.
“Hello?” Raina answered.
“Hi, it’s Jinny.”
“Jinny, I am so glad you called. I am having some man problems. I’m out with Michael and he isn’t getting that I’m trying to seduce him. He is in the bathroom right now and I need advice quick.” Raina said.
“I’m having man problems too. I was sure that Jack was going to propose to me tonight but it isn’t happening.” Jinny said.
“Propose? Are you sure you’re ready for marriage again?” Raina asked surprised.
“Yes, I’m positive. You have no idea how positive I am.” Jinny said.
“Okay, wait till the end of the evening and if he hasn’t proposed yet then you propose.” Raina suggested.
“The girl propose? Raina, I can’t do that. It is so tacky.” Jinny said as she made a face.
“Hey now, Lorelai from Gilmore Girls proposed to Luke. Lorelai isn’t tacky.” Raina defended her suggestion.
“I guess....” Jinny trailed off.
“Okay I fixed your problem now you fix mine.” Raina quickly said in fear that Michael would soon be back.
“You said you’re trying to seduce him?”
“Yes.”
“Have put your legs in a triangle and smoked a cigarette?” Jinny joked.
“Jinny, this isn’t some movie. This is my life. Now I fixed your problem so you fix MINE!” Raina shouted into the phone. Everyone in the restaurant looked at her.
“Okay, okay. We’ll figure something out. Look, why don’t you get the two of you out the restaurant and go somewhere quiet. Maybe your place. Put on some music, light some candles. You know, the works.” Jinny said.
“I’ve tried it, it hasn’t worked.” Raina complained.
“Raina, are you sure he isn’t gay?” Jinny asked.
“Yes, I’m sure. Oh shoot here he comes. I’ll call you later. Good luck with Jack!” Raina said.
“Good luck seducing your man!” Jinny said before she hung up. She took a look at herself in the mirror then walked out the door determined to be engaged by the end of the night one way or another.
“Ready for dessert?” Michael asked as he sat back down. Raina gave him a polite smile.
“Actually, it’s getting kind of crowded. How about we go somewhere more private?” she suggested.
“Sure.” Michael shrugged. “Check, please.” he said to the waiter. “What do to you have in mind?” he asked Raina.
“How about your place?” she asked.
“What?” he asked with a slight hint of panic in his voice.
“Come on, I’ve been over to your sisters house, but never to your apartment. It will be fun.” she said.
“Raina, I lost everything with Katrina. All I have is a mattress and a fridge.” he said. That’s all we need. Raina thought to herself.
“So what?” She asked. “I really want to see it. If it’s as bad as you make it out to be, we can go to my place.” she said.
“I don’t know...” Michael said as he handed his credit cared to the waiter.
“Please?” Raina asked. Then she gave him her biggest smile, the one that shows most of her teeth and even gives her two small dimples in the apple of her cheeks.
“I can’t think of a reason not to.” he said.
“Yay!” Raina said as she bounced in her seat.
“Yay.” Michael echoed, in a much less enthusiastic tone. Raina pretended not to notice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~

When Jinny walked back to her table she noticed Jack had already begun to eat his chocolate mousse.
“Thanks for waiting.” she said sarcastically as she dropped into her chair.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Jack apologized as he wiped his face with his napkin.
“No, it’s okay.” Jinny said as she brushed her hair out of her face. “Sorry I took so long in the bathroom.” she said as she picked up her spoon and began to search for a ring in her mousse. A ring she hoped was an engagement ring from Jack. “Raina called my cell. She’s having man problems.”
“It’s fine.” Jack said as he sipped his water.
“You know how those things are.” Jinny continued. “She wants him to commit, and he’s just like a male. Incapable of commitment.” she said.
“I disagree.”
“Really?” Jinny asked.
“Yeah. I mean, he’s been married before, right? That obviously shows he’s not afraid of commitment.” Jack said as he finished his last spoonful of mousse. Jinny sighed as her search for a ring continued.

“Yeah, he’s been married before. But maybe he changed. Maybe the last relationship was so messed up, and his ex wife treated him so badly, that now he’s scarred for life.”
“No.” Jack said as he shook his head. “I don’t think it screwed up this guy one bit. If anything it probably made him stronger.” Jinny smiled. She hadn’t found a ring, but she knew they were no longer talking about Raina and Michael. She put her spoon down.
“Okay, let’s go with your theory. Maybe he is really into Raina now, and wants to propose. Shouldn’t he at least give her a hint that it’s coming? So she can you know, mentally prepare for the moment?”
“Of course not.” Jack said as he leaned against the back of his seat. “It would be better if he gave no hints, and it was a total surprise.” Jinny frowned.
“Okay, well he hasn’t given any hints. At least, Raina doesn’t think so. But for some odd reason, she has a feeling he’s going to. Shouldn’t he just come out and propose already, and put her out of her misery?”

“Misery?” Jack repeated as he sat up and leaned his elbows on the table. “It shouldn’t be misery. If she knows he’s going to propose, then this should be the most romantic time of her life. If she knows, it’s probably because Michael let something slip so she’d know. And now probably Michael is taking her to fancy restaurants or something, trying to find the perfect moment to pop the question.” just then a violinist walked over to them as he played I’ll be home for Christmas.
“The perfect moment?” Jinny asked as she leaned her elbows on the table.
“Yes.”
“So that’s what’s taking Michael so long? He’s waiting for the perfect moment?” she said as she leaned closer to Jack. Jack nodded and smiled. As he smiled Jinny felt her insides melt. Jinny didn’t particularly care to have her insides melt, but if it’s because Jack was proposing she didn’t mind. And this had to be when he was proposing, hadn’t it? After all, it was the perfect moment. They had just finished a nice meal lit by candle lite. Now they were inches apart, and had a violinist playing romantic music. How could it be better then that? Jinny smiled expectantly. After a second Jack leaned back again.
“Well,” he said. “If you’re done eating then we should probably go. The babysitter is going to cost us a fortune.”
“Oh.” Jinny said as she looked down at the mousse she had made a mess of looking for the stupid ring. Even though she hadn’t eaten a thing, she wasn’t hungry. She had lost her appetite. “Yeah, let’s go.”

Nate and CD laid in bed watching the fire crackle and pop. It was only ten, but CD was very tired from the pregnancy and Nate wanted to be supportive so he went to bed when she did.
“Are you awake?” Nate whispered as he ran his hand through her hair.
“Yeah.” she said as she kept her eyes intently on the fire. Nate leaned over her side to see her face.
“Where’s your head at?” he asked. She looked at him. He could see that some tears had begun to fill in her eyes. “What’s wrong?” he asked worriedly.
“What if... we aren’t good parents?” she asked slowly as a tear wound down her cheek. Nate smiled.
“Is that all?” he asked. CD immediately sat up.
“Is that all?” she repeated. “Is that all? Nate, this is a huge deal. We are going to be parents in less then seven months.” she said as she put one of her hands on her stomach.

“I know, that’s why we don’t need to worry about it. We have seven months.”
“Six and a half months.” CD corrected him. “If we can’t even remember how old our unborn child is then how can we possibly take care of a born one?” CD asked.
“CD, we don’t have to remember how old the baby is after it’s born. That’s what birth certificates are for. To remind us when are kids were born.” Nate could see CD’s expression through the light the fire gave off. He knew he was in trouble.
“This isn’t a joke, Nate. Don’t you ever think about our future? What it’s going to be like after the baby is born?”
“Of course I think about it.” Nate said as he sat next to her so he was no longer facing her. “I think about it all the time. Sometimes it’s all I think about.” he said as he ran his hands through his hair. “I mean, it’s a whole other human being. One that we desperately wanted to bring to the world. And now that we are, what happens if we are a disappointment as parents? What happens if we teach it the wrong values? What happens if it hates us? What happens if it becomes a mass murderer?” Nate’s chest heaved when he finished. CD sat there for a second processing all the information that Nate had just given her.
“I was actually more worried about putting it on solids too early.” CD said. Nate looked at her. “But now I’m worried. I mean, what happens if you’re right? What happens if it does hate us?” CD asked.

“Sshh.” Nate said as he put his arm around her. “Every time I start to think negatively like that, I remember one thing: We want this baby. We really want. And we love it. We’re going to love it even more -if that’s humanly possible- after it comes out of you. And then I calm down.” Nate said. CD smiled and ran her hand up and down his arm.
“You’re right.” she said. “So now there’s only one problem.” she said after a minute.
“What’s that?” Nate asked as he kissed the top of her head.
“Was she hot?”
“Was who hot?” Nate asked as he kissed her forehead.
“That twit that worked at the division while I was kidnaped. Was she hot?” CD asked.
“Stacey wasn’t hot.” Nate said as he kissed her cheek.
“Was she cute?” CD pressed on. Nate ignored her question and kissed her lips. After a few seconds of intense kissing CD pulled away.
“Don’t think you can get my mind of Stacey just because you’re kissing me.” Nate ignored the comment and kissed her even harder. CD pulled away for a breath
“Oh, what the hell.” she said as she pulled his shirt off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“So this is your apartment?” Raina asked after Michael opened the door for her.
“Yup.” he said after he turned the lights on. “Nothing fancy.” Raina looked around. It was a studio apartment. He had a mattress in the middle of the floor where Raina knew a couch should be. Several feet behind the mattress was an island, and behind the island was the kitchen. The kitchen had a fridge, a stove and a sink. The island had one lone barstool. Next to the kitchen area was two doors. One was a closet, and the other lead to the bathroom.
“I think it’s charming.” Raina said. Michael smiled.
“Thanks.” he said. “Listen, I had a lot to drink at the restaurant so I’m going to the bathroom.” Raina smiled and nodded.
“I’ll be here.” she said. Afer Michael left the room Raina noticed a dresser in a dark corner of the room. She walked over to it. There was nothing on the top of the dresser except some candles.
How romantic! I’ll light some candles. Raina thought to herself. She walked into the kitchen to find some matches but she couldn’t find any. There hadn’t been any on top of the dresser with the candles, so there must have been some in the dresser itself. She walked over and opened the top drawer. There was nothing in there but shirts. She closed it and opened the second one. Raina’s eyes widened as she realized what she was seeing. She held up the picture frame containing the picture of Michael and a pretty woman. As she held it up she noticed the frame had been hiding something: an album. Raina opened the alum which displayed dozens of pictures of Michael with the same woman, who happened to be in a wedding dress. Raina looked down in the drawer to see if there was anything else. There were the matches.
“What are you doing?” Michael asked. Raina whirled around.
“I was looking for matches for the candles.” Raina defended herself. Suddenly she realized that she shouldn’t have to defend herself.
Michael took the album from her hands and shoved back into the drawer which he immediately slammed closed.
“So, you like my apartment?” he smiled slightly.
“She’s you’re wife, isn’t she?” Raina felt her throat choke up. Michael nodded solemnly.
“You said that the hurricane took everything.” Raina said. Michael looked down.
“I’m sorry.” he said softly. “But I didn’t lie. Not really.” he said looking up.
“You didn’t lie? You said that hurricane Katrina took everything!” Raina shouted as her vision clouded over with tears. "Everything includes wedding photos."
“But I still didn’t lie. The flood crew just got to her apartment last week. Remember how I said we were separated? Well she took our apartment and I was with my parents. But Kendra, my wife, had a lot of our pictures in a water proof box. I was going to tell you, it’s just,” Michael paused as he squeezed his eyes shut. “It still hurts so much.” he slowly opened his eyes to see Raina crying.
“Are you still in love with her?” Raina asked.
“I know I said that I only wanted to be friends with you. But I think I have more then friendly feelings for you.” Michael said as he took a step towards Raina. Raina took a step backwards.
“You didn’t answer my question.” Raina said, her voice revealing her pain.
“How can I still be in love with her if I have feelings for you?” Michael said with a soft smile.
“Michael,” Raina cried. “You’re not listening to me. Are you still in love with her?” Michael looked down and nodded, unable to make eye contact with her. Raina felt as if she had been punched. She sank down on top of the mattress.
“Then why were you separated?” she asked. Michael looked down at her, still not making eye contact.
“It was her idea.” he shrugged. “And I thought I was over her until I found out that she kept our wedding photos. But don’t you understand? She didn’t want to divorce me because if she had, she wouldn’t have kept the photos!” he said excitedly. Raina stood back up, her eye liner running leaving a deep pool of black underneath her eyes.
“It doesn’t mean she didn’t want to divorce you, Michael. It means she didn’t want to destroy or discard her wedding photos.” Michael shook his head.
“I can’t believe that. I know Kendra. If she had really made up her mind to keep me out of her life she would have gotten rid of those photos.” he said.
“But she’s DEAD!” Raina shouted, her voice shaking. She took a step towards him and held on to his arm. “But I’m not; I’m alive. And I’m right here. Now I’m ready to be with you, but I can’t be number two in your life to a dead woman. I can’t be a Rebecca.” Raina said.
“Who?” Michael asked.
“It’s just an old movie.” she said shaking her head. “It doesn’t make a difference. “But I need you to make a decision. Me, or her.” Raina let go of his arm and stepped back. She wanted to watch his expression. He shoved his hand in his pockets and looked down. Raina felt her heart fall to the pit of her stomach.
“Okay.” she said nodding. Then I guess I’ll be going.” Raina hurried out the door and Michael watched her leave. He cringed as he shoved his fist through the wall.
OKay, this is my last post ever. It's going to be really long. I hope you like it. I know it took me forever to get here, but I loved writing tnhis fic. Enjoy!
“How’s MacKenzie?” Jack asked. Jinny had just come downstairs from checking on MacKenzie. Jack had just payed the babysitter and she was now on her way home.
“Sleeping peacefully with the vision of sugarplum’s dancing in her head.” Jinny smiled. Jack stood up from the fireplace; he had just made a fire. He put his arm around her shoulders.
“I could really go for some wine right now.” she said. Jack smiled.
“I have something better.” he said as he disappeared into the kitchen. When he re-entered the room he was carrying a tray with two mugs of steaming hot chocolate. Jinny smiled as she took a mug and sat down in front of the fire.
“How did you make hot chocolate pay the babysitter and make a fire while I was checking on MacKenzie?” she asked.
“I am a man of mystery.” he said as he sat down next to her. Jinny smiled as the heat of the fire warmed her face.
“Jinny,” Jack said softly. “I have something to ask you.” this was it. This was the moment Jinny had been waiting for. “Would you like to open our stockings early?” Jinny’s eyes narrowed.
“What?” she asked.
“I know you probably haven’t had the chance to put anything in mine, but that’s okay. I can wait until morning.” he said as he stood up and located her stocking. Through the window Jinny could see the snow coming down hard. How was it possible that Jinny’s head was thinking about marriage and Jack’s was thinking about presents? Jinny had changed so much. Jack sat down next to her excitedly.
“Here.” he said as he handed it to her. Jinny rolled her eyes.
“I don’t want to go through my stocking. It’s not even midnight.” she said. Jack shook his head.
“Doesn’t matter, I can’t wait any longer.”
“Well I can. Doesn’t it matter how I feel? After all, it is my gift.” she said angrily.
“Why are you so mad?” he asked. Jinny opened her mouth then immediately snapped it shut.
“Nothing.” she said looking down. Just then she noticed. Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas is you was playing on the stereo.
“Tell me.” he said tipping her chin up so she was looking at him again.
“I thought...” she said trying to hide then pain in her voice. “That you were going to propose to me tonight.” Jack let out a low whistle.
“You really think we’re ready for that again?” he asked. Jinny nodded solemnly.
“Well, I’m sorry to disappoint you, hon.” Jinny smiled meekly and shook her head.
“It’s okay.” she said.
“I know what will make you feel better.” he said handing her back her stocking. “Go ahead.” Jinny let out a small laugh as she put her hand into the stocking. She pulled out some chocolate.
“Chocolate, always good.” she said. Jack nodded. Next she pulled out a c.d. of her favorite band. She smiled and placed down besides her. She put her hand in and lead it all the way to the bottom. She pulled it back to see she had grabbed a small box. Her heart jumped as she opened it and saw a simple silver ring with a diamond centered in the middle.
“Jack,” she said. He took it from her and slipped it on her finger.
“Will you remarry me?” he asked. Jinny let out a small laugh and nodded. Jack grinned and leaned in to kiss her while Mariah sang her heart out.
The snow fell outside all of there homes that night. The snow fell as CD and Nate slept peacefully next to each other, dreaming of the greatest present they would ever receive, in just six and a half months.
The snow fell as Ross and Kate clinked whine glasses together to celebrate.
The snow fell as Jinny and Jack danced, Jinny constantly peaking over his shoulder to gaze at her ring.
The snow fell as Michael sat in an emergency room as a nurse bandaged his hand, even though he knew his heart needed it more.
The snow fell as Raina stood at her window watching it snow, wondering how she would ever be cheerful enough to face her parents the next day.
The snow fell.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“You are invited to a New Year’s Eve party!” CD said as she slapped an invitation in front of Jinny. Jinny picked it up.
“Cool. I’ll just have to see if I can get a babysitter for that night.” CD noticed a glimmer come from Jinny’s finger.
“Is that what I think it is?” CD asked. Jinny looked at it.
“Oh,” she said blushing. “Um, Jack and I are engaged.”
“Jinny! That’s awesome!” CD said. “Nate,” she shouted towards Nate’s desk. “Jinny and Jack are engaged!” Nate looked up.
“Oh, congrats.” Nate said with a nod of his head. Just then Kate left her office for a coffee refill.
“Cap, Jinny’s engaged!” CD shouted.
“That’s very nice to hear.” Kate said as she put some dry creamer into her mug.
“Jinny, I don’t need you to tell everyone about this, okay?” Jinny said with a low tone. CD rolled her eyes.

“I know that you won’t, and someone has to.” CD said as she looked around the office for Raina.
“How do you know I won’t tell anyone?” Jinny asked, her brow knit.
“Because,” CD said turning back to face Jinny whom was know standing. “You didn’t tell me. And telling everyone about your engagement isn’t really something you’re into.” normally, CD would respect Jinny’s wishes and back down. But this wasn’t the normal CD. And it wouldn’t be for another six and a half months. Jinny narrowed her eyes at CD.
“Fine,” she hissed. “Everyone? Can I have you’re attention?” she raised her voice. “I, Jinny Exstead, am engaged! See?” she asked raising her hand into the air, revealing her ring. “This is my ring, and I am getting married. We’ll be setting a date soon. And I will expect presents. Thank you for your time.” then she sat back down. “Now are you happy?” she said looking up at CD. CD shrugged and walked over to Kate.
“Cap, do you know where Raina is?” CD asked. Kate looked up from her coffee.
“She called in. She said she isn’t feeling too well. I told her to stay home until she feels better. It won’t do her any good to be on the streets with a cold.”

“Okay, thanks. And, here.” she said handing Kate an invitation to her New Years Eve party. “Bring Louis.” she said. Kate immediately jerked her head up.
“Um, Louis and I aren’t together anymore. Didn’t I tell you?” CD shook her head.
“No, you didn’t. But you don’t have to bring anyone. It’s fine.” Kate smiled.
“Oh, I’ll be bringing someone.” she said before she walked back into her office.
“Okay.” CD said smiling. “Nate, Captain got her a new man.” she said as she sat down at the desk in front of Nate’s.
“Cool.” he said not looking up from his paperwork. CD rolled her eyes.
“Nate, how come we never talk at work anymore?” Nate looked up at that comment.
“What do you mean? We talk.” he said.
“No, I talk and you just say ‘okay, cool’ to whatever I say. We used to talk all the time at work.” Nate smirked.
“That was before we got together. I talked to you to flirt with you. I don’t need to do that now that I married you and knocked you up.” he said. CD glared at him.
“That’s not funny.” her glare broke into a smile. “Okay, it sorta is.” Nate went back to work and CD picked up the phone. On the fifth ring the phone was answered on the other end.
“Hey Raina, it’s CD. I heard you’re sick and I was wondering if you wanted me to bring you some soup.” CD said. “What? Oh no, really? I’ll be right there.” CD said. Then she hung up. Nate looked up.
“Is something wrong?”
“Oh, so we don’t talk anymore but you’re still capable of eavesdropping?” CD asked as she put her coat on. Nate gave her a hard look. “Michael and Raina had a really nasty fight. Raina is devastated. I need to go check on her.” and with that CD ran out the door.

Raina’s apartment:

CD knocked on the door and was immediately greeted by a person that looked like Raina.
“Raina?” CD asked as she stepped into the apartment. Raina was in her bathrobe, her hair was a mess and her face obviously had dried tears covering it. Black smudges around Raina’s eyes told CD that Raina hadn’t taken her make-up off from the night of the fight.
“He’s still in love with his ex wife.” Raina said, clinging to a box of tissue.
“Oh, honey.” CD said taking Raina into a hug.
“I mean, I never thought I would the other woman, much less to a dead person!” she sobbed. CD ran her hand up and down Raina’s back.
“It’s okay.” CD said soothingly. “It’s going to be okay.”
“No, it’s not.” Raina said backing away from CD. “I am never going to feel like that for anyone else.”
“Raina, I didn’t mean it like that.” CD said holding her hands up. Raina eyes widened as she took in a deep breath.
“I’m sorry, I know you’re just trying to make me feel better.” she said dropping her tired body onto her couch. CD joined her at her side. “He’s actually told me that he was still in love with Kendra – that’s his dead wife. What kind of a half assed name is Kendra? Sounds like a playboy bunny.” Raina said miserably.
“Actually, I think it’s one of Hef’s girlfriends.” CD said. Raina looked at her. “Sorry. I know, not helping.” CD said as she brushed Raina’s hair out of her eyes.

“I found an entire dresser drawer of pictures of them on their wedding day, CD. He told me that the hurricane took everything.” Raina said. CD bit her lip, not wanting to say what she knew she had to say.
“Raina,” she said. “He told you from the begriming that he was still mourning her death.” CD said.
“He told me that he has feelings for me.” Raina said, her head leaning against the back of the sofa but still facing CD. CD smiled.
“Well that’s nice.” CD said.
“But he loves her. He only likes me, but he loves her. Her! She’s a corps. At least whatever they found of her is a corps.” CD cringed as the visual flooded her mind.
“So how did it go down?” she asked. Raina closed her eyes as she started to relive the night.
“He caught me looking at the pictures, I asked him why he lied about them. He said that he hadn’t had them for long, and he thought that Kendra had changed her mind about the divorce but died before she could do anything about it. Then he told me he had developed feelings for me, and I asked him if he was still in love with Kendra. And now here we are.” Raina said. CD nodded as she noticed snow had begun to fall outside the window. She didn’t say anything more that afternoon, but she didn’t need to. Her just being there, and being there with Raina, was all Raina needed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was the night of the party and Nate and CD’s apartment looked fantastic. There were decorations everywhere, and delicious platters of food. Jinny and Jack were the first to arrive.
“Hey, glad you could come.” CD said as she took Jack’s coat.
“Yeah, me too. I just wish New Years wasn’t so close to Christmas. We’re going broke paying for babysitters.” CD just smiled as she realized next year she would have the same dilemma. CD had a low cut black dress on, with her hair in curls piled on top of her head. Ross and Kate came, and went to mingle with the other guest while CD hung up their coats. Just then there was a knock on the door.
“Hi, honey.” CD said gently after opening the door. She gave Raina a hug and kept her arm around her when they walked into the front hall.
“How are you doing?” she asked Raina. Raina gave a timid smile.
“Okay, I guess, Okay as I can be. Here,” she said offering CD a candle. “A brought you a hostess gift. And a thank you for coming over that one day.”
“Raina, I was happy to do it. Break ups suck. I’m just sorry you have to be going through one like this.” Raina nodded and walked into the crowd of people.
The party was hit; everyone had a great time. Jinny wore a slinky red dress that hugged her body. Raina wore a simple green dress that made her skin glow radiantly. CD remarked how it was fun to see everyone dressed up so much. At 11:45 Nate decided to make a toast. Nate and CD hadn’t told anyone about their pregnancy yet, and they decided this was the perfect time: when everyone was gathered together.
“Friends,” Nate began. “In about fifteen minutes we will be celebrating the new year, so before that begins there is a few things I would like to say. First off, CD and I would like to thank you all for coming and we hope you had a good time.” CD nodded as she looked around at all their friends. “I hope that God blesses the new year, and I know that this is going to be a particularly good on for CD and me because, well, we’re pregnant!” Magda let out a small scream and immediately hugged CD.
“Congratulations, sweetie.” then she paused. “Wait, are you really pregnant this time?” she asked. CD smiled and nodded.
“Yes.” Everyone congratulated Nate and CD and as Jinny talked to Nate about the trials of childbearing CD noticed someone try to sneak out of the room.
“Raina, are you leaving already?” CD stopped Raina just as she had reached the door. Raina cringed as she realized she had been caught. She put on a smile as she turned around to face CD.
“Yeah, I’m pretty tired.” Raina said.
“But it’s almost midnight!” CD reasoned. Raina looked down and shook her head.
“I’m just... not in a mood to celebrate.” she said looking back up. “I mean, after Nate gave that speech about looking forward to the new year – and I am so happy for you and Nate.” she said putting her hand on CD’s arm. “But I don’t have anything to look forward to. I don’t even have anyone to kiss at midnight.” Raina said trying to hide the tears that had formed in her eyes.
“Raina, you’re not the only single person here. I’m sure someone will kiss you at midnight.” CD said.
“Yeah,” Raina nodded as she looked at the fellow guests. “But not the one that I want to kiss me.” she said looking back at CD. CD nodded; she knew that Raina needed to be alone.
“Okay, sweetie.” she said hugging her and kissing her on the cheek . “Take care of yourself.” Raina smiled and walked out the door.
She walked the parking garage and found her car. When she got into her car she turned on the radio. The radio dj’s were talking about what they were going to do in the next year.
“I’m going to finally go to Hawaii.” the woman dj said. “I’ve always wanted to and this is the year I’m going to do it.” Raina smiled as she drove down the street. Maybe she should go to Hawaii. It would be a nice break.
“I’m going to be better to my wife.” the man dj said. “She does so much, running the house and taking care of the kids. I want to do something to make her feel special, so she knows I still love her. And I’m going to start right now. Honey, if you’re listening, I want you to know I’m sorry we’re aren’t together. And I want you to know how much I appreciate how much you do. And I want you to know I love you very much. Now listeners, the next song isn’t Christmas-y. Or New
Years-y. But I’m sending it out to my wife.” Just then Amazed began to play. Raina tried to shake off her feeling of loneliness by turning off the radio. Was someone every going to lover her that much?
“Five minutes, everyone. Five minutes.” CD said as she handed noise makers to the party guest. Nate turned on the t.v and set int to a channel that was covering times square in New York. Jack kissed Jinny.
“Hey,” she said pushing him off. “Wait five minutes, horn dog.” she joked. Jack smiled and kissed the top of her head.
Raina turned off her headlights and took the keys out of the ignition. After the conformation beep telling Raina the cad was locked, she walked away. As she walked towards the lobby of her apartment she checked her watch. One minute to midnight. As she opened the door to the lobby, employees were gathered around a t.v a were counting down from ten.
“Ten, nine, eight...” they said while at the same time CD and Nate’s apartment were saying the same thing. Raina rolled her eyes and fought her way through the crowd.
“Seven, six, five...” she had just reached the elevator when she noticed someone sitting in a chair in between the two elevator door openings.
“Michael,” she gasped. He saw her and hesitated to respond.
“Four, three, two...” he jumped from his chair.
“ONE! Happy New Year!” Michael crashed his lips on top of Raina’s.
Jack grabbed Jinny and dipped her, giving her the most passionate kiss she had every experienced.
Nate grabbed CD and kissed her, and CD secretly smiled.
Ross cupped Kate’s cheeks as he kissed her.
Jinny pulled away and laughed as she looked around at everyone kissing.
“It feels like I’m in eighth grade again.” she whispered to Jack. They waited a moment, and everyone was still in the romantic stage. Jinny rolled her eyes and brought the noise maker to her lips. She inhaled deeply and let it out sharply into the mouthpiece. Everyone immediately jerked their heads back and glared at Jinny.
“Thanks, a lot.” a girl next Jinny said. Jinny just shrugged.
Raina pulled away and gasped for air.
“Michael, what are you doing here?” she asked, Michael still holding her in his arms.
“Raina, I am so sorry baby. I should have told you about the pictures.” Raina broke free of his grasp.
“Then why didn’t you?” she asked. Michael looked at her awkwardly.
“I’m not completely sure.” he shrugged. “But I am sure that I am over Kendra’s death. And Kendra.” he said. Raina shook her head.
“You can’t just get over someone in a week.” Michael nodded.
“I know, but you can if you were never on them in the first place.” he said.
“Michael, if you came here to talk dirty...” she trailed off. Michael chuckled.
“Yeah, that sounded better in my head. But the truth is, I was never in love with Kendra. I married her because my parents told me it was time to get married and she was the next girl I met. The truth was she was a witch. I don’t know why she held onto our pictures. It was very unlike her. I think I made such a deal out of it because I thought maybe she had a change of heart before, well, you know. But I knew her, Raina. She wasn’t the type of person to just change. The reason I held onto the idea of her so long is because I miss my parents so much. I guess it was easier to greave someone I didn’t really care about then greave for two people that meant the world to me.” he said. Raina had begun to cry, and action that had become second nature to her during the week.
“You sure you’re over her?” Raina asked.
“I’m sure.” Michael said. Raina nodded.
“Okay,” she said.
“But there is one problem.” Michael said. Raina looked up at him with glassy eyes. She was completely overwhelmed with the occurrences. “I don’t like you.” he said. Raina’s eyes narrowed. Michael smiled. “I love you.” Raina laughed.
“I love you too.” she said as she took him into a deep kiss.
Six and a half months later:
“Okay, we’re ready for delivery.” the doctor looked at CD. Nate held her hand.
“Honey,” she turned to him.
“I know you’re scared, but it’s going to be okay.” he said. CD shook her head.
“I’m not scared, but there’s something that I have to do first.” she said. Nate looked at her.
“What?” he asked.
“I need to talk to Jinny.” she said. Nate looked at the doctor.
“I’m sorry, ma’am. But you’re ready to go now. We’re moving you to delivery.” the doctor said.
“I have a question, I need to push to get this human being out of my pelvis, am I correct?” she asked. The doctor nodded. “Then I refuse to push until I see Jinny.” she said stubbornly. The doctor sighed.
“Pregnant women are so dramatic.” he mumbled to himself. “Is this Jinny person already here?” he turned to Nate. Nate nodded. “Here,” the doctor said as he handed Nate some scrubs. “Give these to Jinny and tell her to hurry.” Nate ran out the door and one minute later he returned with Jinny.
“CD,” Jinny rushed to CD’s side. The doctor eyes’ bugged as he saw Jinny. Jinny noticed the doctors eyes.
“What,”she asked. “Haven’t you ever seen a woman in he wedding dress before?” then she turned her attention back to CD.
“Jinny, I’m sorry I ruined your wedding.” CD apologized. Jinny smiled and brushed sweat drenched hair out of CD’s face.
“CD, Jack and got married. That’s all that matters. Who cares about the reception?” CD smiled.
“Is that it?” Jinny asked.
“Actually, Jinny, I have a question. Is it going to hurt?” CD asked. Jinny smiled softly.
“No, it’s a natural experience.” she said. CD rolled her eyes.
“Now say that while looking in my eyes.” Jinny redirected her eyes towards CD’s.
“It’s going to hurt like hell.” she said in a soothing voice.
“Ma’am, we have to deliver this baby now.” the doctor said.
“Okay, good luck.” Jinny said as she left the room.
Twenty minutes later:
“He is so beautiful.” Nate said. CD was lying ion bed holding their new born baby boy in her arms. Nate was sitting on the side of the bed with his arm around CD’s shoulders.
“He sure is.” CD said.
“I can’t believe we made that.” Nate said as he looked at the baby sleeping peacefully. CD nodded. The nurse walked over to them.
“Excuse me, but I can take the baby now. Your friends will be able to see it in it’s crib in the baby room.” a nurse said. CD smiled and handed the baby to the nurse.
“Have you two come up with a name yet?” she asked. CD shook her head.
“Not quite yet.” she said. The nurse smiled and took the baby away. CD put her arms on Nate’s.
“Nate?”
“Yeah?” he answered.
“I have a question. Remember Stacey?”
“Yup.” Nate answered.
“Was she hot?”
