View Full Version : Bush vs. Dean... much closer than expected in poll numbers (CNN)

I'm sure that we've all seen these Dean vs. Bush polls where they have 30% supporting Dean and about 50% supporting Bush... but a recent CNN poll (taken at the end of December 2003) shows quite a different story...
"Among likely voters surveyed, Bush wins 51 percent to 46 percent for Dean; only Lieberman gets that much support from likely voters in other match-ups. "

Of course, it's still to early to tell who will win or lose. This poll though does demonstrate for those in denial (the ones that say "Bush will win!" or "Bush will lose!") that there actually is a presidential election this year and things can (and probably will) sway back and forth in both directions. Of course, this poll will be completely useless should Dean not get the nomination (and I could see a couple of Democrats beating Dean in the primary, particularly Clark or Gephardt).

I just hope we don't sit around for 39 days wondering who the President is(2000)
I can't take another election like that one, although I do want a close race, makes it more fun that way.
On the nomination... I think it's likely Dean will win, but I think Gephardt will give him a run for his money in Iowa and Clark maybe in either N.H. or some of the Southern States on Feb. 3rd.

I think that Dean will win everywhere and Bush is unopposed and Gephardt is a threat to Dean when everybody thought that Kerry was a threat!! BTW, I thought Super Tuesday was on March 2nd, not February 3rd but you are the expert Brent!!(size 3 text)

Actually, I believe (and I could be wrong, because in all honesty, I don't keep up with primary dates in each state) that Super Tuesday is TECHNICALLY in March as you said--however February 3rd is called "mini Super Tuesday" since that is the date of the primaries in Oklahoma, Arizona, and New Mexico.

I seriously wonder if anything after Feb. 3rd will make a difference, especially if Dean wins both Iowa and N.H.

I'd like to see anyone other than Bush be elected, so if Howard Dean is coming on strong, then good for him. I'm predicting Kerry vs Bush with Bush winning in 2004 though, sorry to say.

Really? I don't even see Kerry making it through the primaries to be quite honest. He was strong at first, but I think a lot of people see him as a flip-flopper on the issues (he is actually lol), but of course, I don't care if somebody changes their mind once in a while, in fact, only the ignorant are incapable of doing so... but Kerry is just being excessive in that (like changing his mind on a daily basis). But if he wins the Democratic nomination (and I doubt that'll happen), I think he would make a great candidate anyway.

I agree Skees. I thought Kerry would be the nominee easily back in the Summer, but boy how the tables turned. He is suffering from foot-in-mouth disease though. LOL
