My choice is James Taylor, with Carole King coming in an incredibly close second. I think James is my favorite because along with putting out the most amount of hits over the years, he continues to put out great music today. He even won a Grammy in 1999 I believe it was. Not many artists who started in the 60's, or 70's can make that claim. My least favorite of these artists is probably Jimmy Buffet. Although he put out some very good songs like: Come Monday, Son Of A Son Of A Sailor, Margaritaville, Changes In Lattitudes, Changes In Attitudes, etc., most of his music seemed to be a parody, and had the same themes, while the other artist's music seemed very diverse, with several relevant themes.

So anyway, who is your favorite of these four artists?

Well, I'm like...14 so I don't know these people very well, but I'm voting Carole King b/c she sings the Gilmore Girls theme song...yea.

I voted Carly, even tho her post-1980 work has been very hit and miss, even tho I loved Coming Around Again and The Basement Tapes

Tough one. I voted Jimmy Buffet, but really only because I suspected he wasn't as popular as Carole King (I was right).

Gotta love them all though. :)

Well for one thing, I already did a poll with the Beach Boys recently, and for another thing, I wanted to focus on solo artists who have a similar style.

The Beach Boys are a great group though. Infact, they're my second favorite group of all time.

not a slam against the Beach Boys, but they're in a different catagory/era that James, Carly, Carole and Jimmy. They were all early/mid 70's singer-songwriters, Beach Boys were 60's pop. It's like putting Nirvana in a catagory with current pop-punk acts

There's no such group as Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys or at least I'm not aware of any recordings credited to them under that name. It's about the same as the radio announcers around here playing a song by Genesis and then telling me that I've just been listening to Phil Collins and Genesis. I don't think so.
