It's finally gonna happen! Warner Bros. says it will release the first season of The Flintstones (as well as the Jetsons) some time next year. There is no official release date set as of yet, but it is coming next year! Fantastic news, huh?!!!

The most reliable source on the net for such news: The Digital Bits (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/barriemaxwell/maxwell112803b.html)

It's about 3/4 the way down that page, at the end of the paragraph that begins with:

August appears to be the month when WB will release ...

Wasn't the first season or at least the first few episodes of The Flintstones done in black and white? I hope that they release them in their original fashion. Plus, didn't those early episodes have a different theme song?

I'm definately going to buy the DVD set. I try to buy all of the TV shows on DVD, but this is one that I'm really excited about.

The first two seasons were broadcast in black and white, as were most television programs from the late 50s/early 60s, but they were made in color from the outset, as Hanna-Barbera wanted the show to have a long life on tv, and a color program would ensure that long life.(and a long life means more money for the producers.)

However, the commercials that were made for "The Flintstones", particularly the Winston Cigarettes ads, were done in b&w, so maybe those will be included in the DVD as extras...

The first season did have a different theme song.It was an instramental titled"Rise And Shine",which could often be heard as background music in episodes throughout the series. The openning and closing credit scenes were different too.The openning scene apparently showed Fred driving home in his flintmobile,to sit infront of his television set.The closing scene involved Fred turning off the TV set, covering a birdcage with a blanket with Wilma asleep in bed,and last but not least, putting the cat out for the night.Followed by the now famous'cat throwing Fred out the door and locking him out'scene. For some reason, this theme was never seen again once it was replaced by the now more familiar"Meet The Flintstones"credit scenes.

Actually, for those of us with Boomerang, we get to see those first couple of seasons and the "Rise & Shine" openings. I love them! And I hope they make sure that the dvds from the 1st Season use the correct opening and closing themes (the Rise & Shine theme). If not, I'll be very upset.

Further, the Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? DVD set will include a "Movie Cash" promotional certificate good for a ticket to see Warner Bros.' Feature film Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, scheduled to premiere in theaters March 26, 2004.

The Flintstones made television history as the first ever animated program to air in primetime. The colorful sitcom targeted to adults and children alike, documented the lives of The Flintstones, a working class family headed by father Fred, wife Wilma and pet dog Dino, all of whom found themselves in humorous situations with neighbors Barney and Betty Rubble. Legendary voice artist Mel Blanc gave life to Barney Rubble and Dino throughout the program's run.

Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? Instantly secured a strong and loyal audience. The program follows the travels of loyal friends Daphne, Fred, Shaggy, Velma and their dog Scooby-Doo, who travel in their van "The Mystery Machine" solving cases. The hit program, which features broadcast legend Casey Kasem as Shaggy, went on to become one of the most successful animated television programs in history, spawning spin-off series, specials, consumer products and live action feature films. Warner Bros. released Scooby-Doo, starring Freddie Prinze, Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard and Linda Cardellini, in theaters worldwide 2002. In March, Warner Bros. will release the film's sequel Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed. That same month, on March 9, WHV will release What's New, Scooby-Doo? Volume 2: Safari, So Goodi!, on DVD and VHS. The title is the second release of episodes from the contemporary version of What's New, Scooby-Doo?, which airs each Saturday morning on KIDS WB!

"The Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones franchises are two of the most valuable properties in the Warner Home Video library. Previous home entertainment releases built around these famous programs have performed exceedingly well and we anticipate an even greater success for these exciting titles making their long anticipated debuts on DVD," said Christine Martinez, WHV Vice-President Non-theatrical Franchise Marketing. "The original series of The Flintstones and What's New, Scooby-Doo? Have entertained and pleased the hearts of generations, and now people will be able to enjoy this classic series in the comfort of their own homes whenever they wish."

Yes, this does sound cool, though I only plan on getting the Stone Aged family set, I was never really into Scooby Doo that much. The Flintstones set is definitely one I'm looking forward to.
