Watching that episode recently where Ralph thought he was gonna die made we wonder if Arterial Monochromia is an actual disease. Does anyone know? Everything I've found from searching all only refers to the Honeymooners episode.

No, there is no such illness. While "arterial" does refer to the arteries, 'monochromia" is nothing more than a take-off on the word "monochrome", which simply means "black and white", or without any color. I guess you could say it was an inside joke for TV in those days.

I figured as much. "A disease that comes from scratching for fleas"

Monochromia - complete color blindness; colors can be differentiated only on the basis of brightness.

Well, as Ralph would say "You're never too old to learn something and tonight I learned something!" After looking in Webster's I need to correct my own previous post. The word 'monochrome' means having one color. So, that could mean any color evidentally. So I guess my babbling on about black and white was incorrect. Ok, I feel better now.....I can go on with the rest of my evening :)
