HALLMARK CHANNEL SCORES BIG WITH ‘MAGNUM, P.I.’
Programming Powerhouse Another Jewel in Network’s Crown
Hallmark Channel will welcome the New Year with a resounding “Aloha” when one of the most popular TV series of all time – “Magnum, P.I.” – joins the broadcast lineup in January 2004.
A huge hit during its original eight season run and a solid performer in syndication, the high-style, action detective drama – about a Vietnam vet who becomes a private investigator in exotic Hawaii – is the latest acquisition in a strategy designed to build on the network’s steady ratings growth by capitalizing on built-in audiences.
“A proven performer with broad appeal to both men and women, ‘Magnum, P.I.’ is colorful, compelling, classic entertainment,” said David Kenin, Executive Vice
President, Programming. “It’s the kind of asset we’re confident will contribute to Hallmark Channel’s continued success in the highly competitive cable arena.”
During its 1980-88 run on CBS, “Magnum, P.I.” earned 17 Emmy® Award nominations, with Tom Selleck honored as Outstanding Lead Actor in 1984 and John Hillerman named Outstanding Supporting Actor in 1987. Both actors also won Golden
Globe awards for their performances as rogue detective Thomas Magnum and his nemesis, Jonathan Higgins, the major domo who runs the estate where Magnum lives.
“Magnum, P.I.” debuts on Hallmark Channel beginning with an all-day marathon to be broadcast Sunday, January 4.
