View Full Version : I was wrong about Roseanne

I didn't see Roseanne in its original airing. I always thought it was just a show with a lot of yelling and sarcasm.
I just started watching it on Nick, and I'm hooked. Roseanne is sarcastic, but she's not mean as I assumed. The relationship between her and Dan is very loving. Dan's heart attack episode was very emotional.
I also enjoy the relationship between Roseanne and Jackie, and Roseanne and her children. She's very loving and caring towards her family. She's just funny while she's at it.
It's a great show.
Sidenote: I hate how Nick@Nite talks over the final scene. It drives me nuts.
You'll probably change your mind when the last two seasons are aired...

It was so funny in last night's episode, the one where Becky was rebelling, and Roseanne was in the closet at the end.
I thought I would die laughing.
Now if we can change your mind about the Red Sox, Janice.

The first 6 or 7 years were great.

It's cool to see that your feelings about this show have changed Janice. When I heard so many people complaining about it coming to N@N, I just didn't get it. It's such a great, and true to life show. I rank it right up there as one of the greatest of all time. Hopefully more people will be open minded like you and give it a chance, instead of putting it down based on what they've heard.

Roseanne Barr is a true comedienne. I used to love her standup comedy before she had her own show--when she was a 'domestic goddess', lol. I must have been crazy not to tune in during the show's original run. The show has a lot of heart, and it's just funny, pure and simple. The cast is perfect. John Goodman and Roseanne are great together.
I'm still trying to get my bearings with the show...who's who, etc. They can't be running these shows in order. One night, Roseanne is working at the factory with everyone. I did watch them quit. She's worked at a beauty salon, the chicken place, the bar, a diner, selling magazines over the phone. All this, and I've only been watching the show less than a month, lol.
It seems that a lot of people come and go, although the core cast remains. Sondra Bernhart, Tom Arnold, a few others....
I must be confused because I think I watched a lot of a marathon or something. I didn't pay that much attention at first, and I didn't watch it all the time in the beginning. I could swear Jackie had a kid in one episode. Dan hadn't spoken to his parents in two years...yet there they were....and Crystal....with Dan's father and a baby?
I'm not asking anyone to fill me in. It's too much to ask, and I'm sure the timeline of things will fall into place for me as times goes on.
I agree Mdntrider, that Roseanne is one of the greats.

Yeah, you started watching during N@N's week long marathon introducing the show to the network. During the marathon they were showing some of the most talked about episodes from every season. Right now would be the best time to catch it, because they are in the process of showing it from beginning to end. I think right now they are on episode 35, or 36 or something.

They are in the middle of the 2nd season right now, and they are going in order. That was Roseanne, she had a hard time with jobs throughout the series til the 5th season. The episodes will continue to get better til the 6th or 7th season. I love it on N@N! I always tape the 2am hour and watch it the next morning. I actually started watching Roseanne again at the end of July. My local station was airing it between 2 and 4 hours a night, so I saw a good many of the episodes in a short period of time, while at the same time I started watching it on TBS. I hate where Nick talks over the final scene... but I'll live.

If you go tot he general sitcom discussion board, so many people bash Roseanne (while praising sh-t like "Wings" ) and I just don't get it. "Roseanne" is one of the best series ever. I'm glad you've come around, Janice. Welcome to the club!
The episodes do get better until the middle of the 7th season. Season 4 thru 6.5 are the best, so many classics, too many to talk about. There are a few good ones in season 8 and 9, but not many. I still like the Ab Fab episode, I thought it was the best of the 9th season.
