Ok, I don't get it! At the end Naomi Watts and her son are watching the video because he said that she(the little ghoul girl) is still alive. Why are they watching it?

Well they said that all Samara wanted was to be heard. So they wanted to make a copy of the tape, b/c well, they had already seen it...so it's not like watching it again will make them die sooner. And Naomi Watts character made a copy of it, that's why SHE didn't die. So she was having the little boy make a copy so he wouldn't die either. Yup, they're gonna make a sequel tho...supposedly

I jumped outta my seat at the very beginning when they showed the flashback of the first victim's mother opening the closet.. creepy as hell.

That's incredible, and at the same time, it makes sense for you to have written up 12 pages on it. It's one of those movies I don't get tired of watching, and I seem to catch something I missed the previous time. :)

I dunno how the hell you understood The Ring! That film was a bit hard to follow- I'd probably have taken forever to work out the ending. It's creepy- It scared the crap out of me when the little girl stepped out of the screen.
There's always been a sequel to the ring when it's made in Japan- and a prequel, so it'll probably happen in Hollywood as well.
Also- is the 'term paper' you wrote like an English paper- and can you still get a good grade writing about movies?

I'm majoring in film studies - it was for a class on American films, so yeah, it kinda had to be about a movie ;)

Btw, I got an A :)

I saw this movie once in the theatres and I just watched it again a few hours ago.. I still don't get it. At all. If someone helps me with this, I'll be your new best friend.

Where the hell did the original tape come from? Who made it? How did it end up in that cabin? How did Katie die? I mean, was she scared to death? Why did Samara come back if they set her free, because she never stops?

Ahhhhhh my head hurts!

Well, I can't answer everything, but I can try :)

My interpretation of the origin of the tape was simply that Samara willed it into existence. Why not? If she can come through TV screens, is it that much of a stretch? ;)

The inn-keeper says that he gets his tapes from guests who left them in the cabins - it could have come from anyone.

Katie died from her heart stopping. As her mom said, it was a freak occurence, which was why she sent Rachel on the case. Yes, she was in effect, scared to death. Samara came back because her goal wasn't to be free (although she probably appreciated it) she just wants "to be heard."

Hope that helps a little

ohhhhhhh okay! It's starting to make sense now. So the tape was like all signs of where Samara was? The burning tree, the well, the chair, lighthouse, etc... it seemed to me like all you had to do was follow them, like they did, and after 7 days if you didn't, you were dead.

Thanks Liza!

Pretty much, but just following the signs wouldn't keep you alive. You only live if you pass her story on (by making a copy) remember what's-his-name (the boyfriend) followed the signs too, but he died cuz he didn't make a copy.

Did I help, or did I just confuse you more? :)

I LOVE this movie. Out of all the scary things in the movie, the thing that creeps me out the most is that KID!! Aiden I think his name is. He's weird!

I know this an old thread, but I'm in a movie mood tonight hah and I feel like telling you the ending to Ringu (Japanese version).

Two girls are in a car. They're talking and one asks, "Did you hear about that tape? You watch it and in 7 days, you die" and the other girl goes, "Yeah, I also heard that if you make a copy and show it to someone else, you'll live".

So what Naomi Watts did was make a copy and show it to that dude. And he never made a copy, so he died. They don't explain it very well in The Ring, cos just having that kid push the buttons didn't explain that you had to make a copy.
