Liza-I think that there are movie studios in serious talk about a 'Phantom of the Opera' Movie.
I read something a while ago about alot of people not talking to each other now in the movie business etc because movie execs want to cast some very young or hotshot actor in the role of the phantom, while other people, including Lloyd Webber (who scares me alot) want the guy who originated in the role to be in the movie, but I don't know what's happening now.
Last I heard there was also talk of a Cats movie with Kylie Minogue considered for a role.

In fact- they've already CAST the Phantom of the Opera film (being directed by Joel Schumacher-didn't he do Phone Booth???)-I've never seen the play before, so I don't have a clue whether casting is OK,but the phantom is the same guy who played Dracula in Dracula 2000
anyway-to see details of the movie go to

I've never seen the movie Hair-is it any good? I heard it didn't do too well, and there's some script problems- but I've heard some of the soundtrack which is great.

Chicago, of course, though I prefer the musical. I also like Grease and Annie.

Mary Poppins wasn't a Broadway show - the music was written by the Sherman brothers especially for the movie :)

There's a movie on the story of Les Miserables, but it's based on the book - without the music. As far as I know there hasn't been a movie made of the musical. Well, there's the "Les Mis in Concert" but that's not a movie.

THANK YOU! It's the best musical Webber ever wrote - it seriously deserves to be made into a movie. Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman originated the roles, and I'd LOVE to see Crawford in it (he's the only REAL phantom) but since Sarah Brightman and Andrew Lloyd Webber are now divorced... chances are she won't be in it. :( ;)
Just checked out the link - this is gonna be an amazing movie!
I love Alan Cumming. Minnie Driver as Carlotta??? I didn't know she could sing - but that's ok, cuz she's playing a character nobody likes ;)

Minnie Driver's been doing alot of plays in the West End recently-so my guess is she can probably sing well.
I'll probably go see this movie anyway-when the musicals to movies thread was started I distinctly remembered reading about Phantom of the Opera-I've never seen theplay, though the soundtrack seems decent, may well be very interesting.
