Splain mentioned in another thread that he thought that Gary Morton, Lucy's 2nd husband, could have been the man whose name and address was written by Lucy on the piece of paper that Desi had found before the divorce and used it against her as a kind of blackmail. Desi described this in his book. Well, today I saw this photo that is attached below. Here is the caption:

Lucille Ball/Gary Morton Seated in Club
Original caption: 1958-New York, NY: East 54th Street. Lucille Ball and Gary Morton are shown seated in the El Morocco Club. 1958.

Now, I thought that Gary and Lucy didn't meet until well after she and Desi were divorced, when she was doing the play "Wildcat" in NYC? This certainly was well after 1958. During that year, Lucy and Desi were still very much married (although, very unhappy).

Do you think that the date on the caption could have been a mistake? It seems like the most logical explaination. But then again, it is supposed to be the original caption, and if that's so, you'd think it would have been first published around the time that it was dated. Very very strange.

Pretty interesting. I think the date is probably wrong though. Didn't Lucy still have long hair in 58? And I don't think she'd go out with him in public.

Her hair was short in 58. It was short starting with the third LDCH.

I agree that the year was wrong, that looks like much later, i've seen that picture. However, i knew that the story of meeting Gary and stalling about having pizza with him and all that could have been fabricated to cover up the liaison having started well before that. It is definitely NOT something i KNOW or SUSPECT but just rather something i've always wanted to know, the identity of the man's name on that slip of paper.

I hope the name belonged to someone more interesting than Gary!

Yeah the date is incorrect.

Lucy, as most in the public eye, cared too much about her image to be seen THAT close in public to another man while she was still one part of "America's most famous couple". That would've sparked way too many rumors and the media/public wouldn't have sympathized with her as they did when the divorce was finally annoucned.

As Irma Kusely once said "She was not a foolish child"

Exactly, that's how we know for a fact that it can't be from '58, well said too!
