cars used in old tv shows

Next year I'm going to an antique car show where the theme is "Big Three TV"- cars appearing in tv shows. I want to buy and take a car to the show that is like one that appeared on a more obscure show. For example, most everyone knows that Chrysler Imperials and Dodge convertibles were in "Beverly Hillbillies"; an early '60s Corvette in "Route 66"; and Oliver Douglas drove Lincoln and Mercury Marquis convertibles in "Green Acres". I'm trying to determine what John Forsyth drove in episodes of "Bachelor Father", or those used by principal characters in shows like "Hazel", "Make Room for Daddy", "The Flying Nun", "My Favorite Martian", "The Governor and J.J.", etc. It doesn't need to be from a sitcom; dramas would work too.

Anyone have any ideas or leads? My time frame is roughly between 1957 and 1975. I'll need to pick the car from the show, find one to buy, and have a still from the episode of the show where the car appears.

Hopefully this will be a fun thread.

The only info I can give you is that I know Sister Bertrille rode a motorcyle while the credits for the writer and director of each "Flying Nun" episode were shown.

On Leave it to Beaver Dodge/Chrysler cars were used. Watch sometime and look at all the other cars on the street and they are all Chryslers! Chrysler must have been a major sponsor of that show!:lol:

On Andy Griffith I think all the cars were Fords.

Yes they were, and for the sheriff's car they mostly used a Ford Galaxie 500 I believe.

I'm pretty sure Howard Cunningham's DeSoto was made between 1946 and 1948.

This show is a couple years past the date you requested but I'll run it by you. Vega$ ran from 1978 to 1981. Robert Urich, as Dan Tana, drove a red 1956 or 1957 convertable T-Bird!

I found the following blurb. Willys Jeeps did make some wood bodied 'Woodies' but original Woodie is older than that. I think pre-WWII. I didn't bring myself up to snuff with the full history.

this has nothing to do with what you were saying, but the Clampetts truck on "The Beverly Hillbillies"-which was given to them by Jeds cousin Pearl, if you ever saw the first episode-was made by Oldsmobile, I think.

I think only Fords were used on Dragnet. I could be wrong on the model, but I know they used only one type of car.

The Dinah Shore show is worth mentioning. They didn't drive cars during the show, only during the commercials. Seeee the USA in a Chevrolet ... :cool:

Lots of car (and even truck)manufacturers made Woody's. Most station wagons were originally Woody's. To see which one was on "The Flying Nun," you're going to have to give me an exact episode, so I can ger a chance to watch it and find out for myself.
