SoapNet has acquired the cable rights to primetime soap Dallas from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution, airing weekdays beginning on September 8. This is the third major acquisition for SoapNet over the past 12 months (Dynasty, Another World).

SoapNet has picked up exclusive rights to all 13 seasons of classic CBS sudser "Dallas" from Warner Bros. Domestic Cable Distribution.
The popular primetime soap will air weekdays beginning Sept. 8 during daytime.

Deal marks the third acquisition the cabler has made within a year. SoapNet picked up Aaron Spelling's 1980s soap staple "Dynasty" in October and Procter & Gamble-owned serial "Another World" in July.

"For us, it's a very large acquisition. 'Dallas' is the emblematic soap," SoapNet general manager Deborah Blackwell said. "It not only broadens and enriches our offerings, but it's something our viewers have been asking for since day one."

"World" and "Dallas" highlight the Disney-owned cabler's commitment to adding non-ABC soaps to its slate.

"We want to get the best daytime shows and the best of the classic soaps from any network, not just ABC," Blackwell said.

Last month, SoapNet posted a 0.7 rating in women 18-49, making it the No. 6 basic cable net in its target demo.

"Dallas" debuted in 1978 and chronicled the saga of the dysfunctional Ewing family. Skein garnered most publicity for its "Who Shot J.R.?" cliffhanger in season two.

"Dallas," starring Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Victoria Principal, was created by David Jacobs and produced by Leonard Katzman, Lee Rich and Philip Caprice.

Yay! This is great news. I cannot wait for SoapNet to start airing it. I haven't seen it before, so I'm looking forward to it. SoapNet has been getting better with the recent acquisitions. I can't wait to see what they have in store for 2004.

Yes! Finally! SOAPnet does a fairly good job of keeping episodes intact too (48 minutes, but I have no idea how long they were during the original run).

I can't wait. I just hope it doesn't replace Knots Landing. Odds are it will air at 1pm (which sucks, but hopefully Growing Pains will be over by then) or before KL.

Dallas, which originally premiered in April 1978, chronicled the exploits of the oil-rich Ewing family and featured such stars as Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy, Linda Gray and Victoria Principal. Set in Texas, the series, which revolved around the Ewings' shady business dealings and dysfunctional family dynamics, was one of the longest-running and most popular primetime series in television history and inspired dozens of successful clones in the 1980's. Over the years, some of Hollywood's top talent, including Barbara Eden ("I Dream of Genie"), Oscar-winning actor George Kennedy ("Cool Hand Luke") and a young Brad Pitt, made Dallas a stop on the map of their careers. Dallas was created by David Jacobs and produced by Leonard Katzman, Lee Rich and Philip Caprice.

SOAPnet, the new way to watch soaps, offers same day episodes of popular daytime dramas including All My Children, One Life To Live, General Hospital, and Port Charles at night for convenient viewing. Okay, now I'm really pissed. :mad: First Another World and now Dallas? Georgia cable companies need to pick up SoapNet. As far as I can see nobody offers it here. I have comcast and it's not listed on their website. Those are two of my favorite shows that I would love to see again.

I'm thrilled!!! Dynasty coming back in October was great but this was what I was really looking forward too. So now, what's leaving? Falcon Crest is gone. Is Knots Landing next??

Well i may not be an insider but my guess would be either "The Colby's" would leave or they will Drop "Port Charles" once it is done on ABC.

I don't think "Knot's Landing" is going anywhere, its still very popular and has a loyal, loyal following...

But hopefully they'll cut back on the soaptalk episodes and that would open up several slots for them to air new shows.... Soaptalk really only needs to air twice a day... not the 50 million times a day it currently airs...

According to a recent article in SOAP OPERA WEEKLY magazine, Dallas will air weekdays at 1pm and 6pm. I have no idea if anything else will change. If nothing does (I'm sure it will though) the 1pm airing will replace Knots Landing (it will still air, hopefully, at 2pm) and the 6pm airing will replace SOAPCenter and Port Charles.

They will most likely start from the beginning. SoapNet usually starts at the beginning of a series' run, with the exceptions of Another World since it's first 15 years of episodes are for the most part gone.

I can't wait to watch Dallas again. My wife and I watched the original run and watched it on TNN. I will be taping this time around. WAY TO GO SOAPNET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
