I don't know if this was brought up by someone else on this board or not, but did Bea Arthur have facial surgery half way through the Golden Girls series? If you compare her in the last two seasons with the first three or four seasons, she looks very different.

thanks

lol  ....sorry it just seemed like a funny thought to me.

I don't think Bea is the type of women to have frivolous cosmetic surgery done, I mean she doesn't even dye her hair.....

I think its her hair do's. I know her face seemed to change during Maude when she had different hair do's.

I never noticed anything different about her face. I don't think the hairdos made much difference.

To me her face seemed to change when she had different hair do's. I know in the golden girls she said she used a lot of make up to make her look younger than Estelle.

Oh, I think it's almost common knowledge that she has had work done. In Maude, they even had a two-part episode in the second season called, "MAUDE'S FACELIFT" She also made reference to it in The Golden Girls when Blanche contemplates getting her breasts redone, and Dorothy admits she had her eyes done. Watch the intimte portrait again, and you will see she has definitely had work on her face. Unfortunately, that also takes it's toll as you get older, and why she might look drastically different now.

I'm positive that she's had a facelift because I have the TV Guide's Book of Lists. It has a list of stars that have had facelifts and Bea Arthur is one of them.

Thanks for the info everyone! Many actors change their appearances to keep up with times. Bea Arthur seems to stand out though. I remember seeing the last episode of season four and the first episode of season five (chronic fatigue) back to back. I knew that there was something different about her in season five. I just could not put my finger on it.
