People sure have trouble with names sometimes. My name is a simple, short, one syllable name, yet most people pronounce it wrong! I can't imagine having something more complicated, like a Polish name. These names really aren't that difficult!

There was a guy at my school with the last name Zegarzewski. People always had trouble pronouncing and spelling it.

Maybe I spoke too soon. That might be a difficult one. Is it pronounced, "zay-gar-zoo-skee"?

I don't know what the percents of them are but I'm mostly German and Norwegian. I'm also a little bit English and French.

Sorry, when I saw the spelling of that guy's last name, I couldn't help but laugh. I had a teacher when I was in preschool in the 80's that had the last name Zaremski - I thought THAT was strange. That one's news to me. :D

The ones I HAVE come across are all messed up in spelling. I knew someone a grade ahead of me who had the last name Nowatzki (I think), and one of the teachers had the last name Prozinski. That's just what I can think of offhand at the moment, there were more.

My mom has a Polish last name (the kind that ends in "y" and NOT "i"), and everybody spells her last name right except fora t the end!! It's always with the "i" at the end, never the "y". Even though it's not my last name, it irritates me to no end how people keep screwing up my mom's last name. :p

Well if the name ends in 'ski', it's always Polish. If it's 'sky', then that's either Russian, Ukranian, or Belorussian. There are a few exceptions to the 'y' thing, such as your mom, but that's rare since we're predominantly 'i'.

My dad's side of the family has an easy one to pronounce. Budz. (Pronounced Buds) A friend of mine has Krol. Mine's a little different, but since there's only like 30 people left in the world with it, I won't reveal it. Sorry, I can't risk my life knowing some people here might hunt me down and kill me. :p Kidding.

 I like that you tried, but unfortunately, you have it wrong. :p You'd pronounce it 'Zeh-gah-zev-skee'.

It's kind of hard for you native English speakers to pronounce the 'rz' sound though. No one seems to get it right. Does anyone know how to speak French? You know how you say 'Je m'appelle Chris' in French? Well that's the 'rz' sound, the 'Je'. Or like 'Je t'adore' under my username. It's kind of like a hard z. I know it's hard to really understand without hearing it, but it's the best I can do in this situation.

Nope, none at all. My grandma used to speak it fluently because that's all her dad spoke but then he made her start talking in English to him and she forgot how to speak it. She can still read it and understand it but can't speak it. Weird I know.

That is kinda weird how you can forget an entire language. I can only pronounce the letters and translate a few words but that's about it.

LOL, told you I spoke to soon! So the "zew" part of the name is not "ryhmes with " 'dew,' " but its pronounced "zev?" Interesting. And yes, I speak French, so I understand.
