That's true. He was responsible for several really funny and fun TV shows. He was about the best "funny straight man" in the business.

Bob's a great, funny man. TV Land should not only bring back The Bob Newhart Show, they should add Newhart as well. TV Land should air them back to back in Twice as Nice. That would be 4 times as nice.

I have felt the same way all along. Seeing as neither of these shows will never make a dvd release, its probably the only way to get a full episode archive of both. Makes me sad.

I think there is a good chance that both The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart could make it to DVD. Both shows were very popular. In Newhart's case, if they ever put out season sets, it might be smart to start with seasons 2-8, then season one. The sales would be much better that way.

Bob is one of the greatest, and you are right he does not get the credit he deserves..I dont know how he kept a straight face alot of times, and you could tell he was having a good time on the Bob Newhart show...Does anyone have any stories about Boib Newhart the man??? What was he like in real life????

. . . I get so upset that classic shows like the Bob Newhart Show are not on dvd but yet all these other "current" shows ALREADY have their own dvd season sets!!!! I think that "Newhart" probably has a better chance of getting put on DVD than does the "Bob Newhart Show." The "Mary Tyler Moore" season one didn't do very well in terms of sales, so I am thinking that it would probably be a very similar fan base between the two shows. Another show that I wish would get put on dvd is "Taxi."

I would love to see both "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart" come to DVD. (preferably in season sets)
I think they would sell just as good as any other TV DVD release from those eras.
I think that Bob Newhart IS an unsung hero.
And IMO, with John Ritter gone, he deserves to host the next TVLand Awards (if they ever happen)

I really like The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart.
Of course I didn't get to taping TBNS when it was on TV Land and now regret it.
I will buy dvds if they ever come out.
Believe it or or not I think they will both be released.
Call it a hunch.

When I heard that "The Bob Newhart Show" was probably going to be yanked from TVLand's schedule, I immediately started recording them. I have about 85% of seasons 1-3 and 5-6. Season 4 didn't cycle around before the airing stopped.
I have used these tapes to make "Bob Newhart Show" VCD box sets for my own personal use...because I'm a huge nerd who has plenty of spare time this Holiday season. I only wish that this show would arrive on DVD, but MTM's poor performance doesn't bode well. I don't understand why they can't do something special, like make a bare-bones set with just the episodes. Surely that would save money and make it more practical. If retailers won't buy them, then TVLand could make money by offering them on their website, or something. Yeah, some Bob commentary tracks would be truly amazing, but I'll take any type of "Bob Newhart Show" DVD, even if it has nothing but the episodes.
I'm just glad that "The Dick Van Dyke Show"'s entire run has been greenlit.

Yes, I've always loved Bob, too! I grew up with The Bob Newhart Show. If I remember correctly, didn't it air back-to-back on Saturday nights with Mary Tyler Moore? At any rate, our family never missed it.

It was part of CBS's line-up, which included MTM, All in the Family, and the Carol Burnett Show. Such quality television all airing on one night astounds me. Not even NBC's Thursday powerhouse has ever had such outstanding programming. I don't know if any lineup will ever top that.

He is a true excellent one!!! Like Bob Hope, they both used good, clean, and pure jokes and managed to avoid the tabloids!!

That Saturday night lineup with Bob Newhart show, Mary Tyler Moore, AITF, Carol Burnett, etc. was indeed an awesome lineup!!! Such great shows. I am glad that TVLand is bringing back the Carol Burnett Show although I wish that they would air in their original format instead of the cut-up repackaged 30-minute programs. I assume that is how they are showing them. Anyway, back to Bob Newhart. I have the Dean Martin Show dvd's sent to me and Bob Newhart appears on many of them and he is so funny with Dean. Bob Newhart truly is a funny, funny comedian. And, I agree too, he is funny without all the cuss words, etc. I wish more of today's so-called comedians would follow Bob Newhart's example in this regard.
