I know that this has probably been posted already, and i guess i am noticing now that i have the first season DVD.....is it just me or did sam seem to get more senile (i guess that's the word for it) as the years went by? And i remember that in that one episode where Woody wants to bet with a booky and wants Sam to put down his life savings but sam doesn't think that woody should do that so he never places the bet, and then woody ends up winning all the bets, but Sam didn't place the bet (<--- 4th season). There is one line in there that he says "I was just trying to look out for you like coach did for me. Worked out just as well which scares the hell out of me." and then i don't know there seem to be more and more episodes where sam didn't get things......Am I the only one that's noticed this?

I think maybe it's the writers way of remembering Nick Colasanto. We all loved coach.:)

Yeah, I missed Coach when he passed away. He was my favorite character and I really wonder how Cheers would have been had he lived for the rest of the series.

Yes i loved his relationship with Sam, and the series would have gone on and still achieve it's greatest with Coach...even more i think. I like Woody, but when it comes down to it being woody or Coach i definately pick Ernie Pantuzzo. When he died, Sam sort of switched roles from being the kid with a father, to trying to be a father with a kid (woody). I loved their relationship, and well Coach's relationship with everybody in the bar. God Bless Nicholas Colasanto
