Apartment remodeling

Can anyone tell me why the episode Sam's missing (174 and 175) are in the middle of the last season? In the episode they are remodeling the apartment but, in a few episodes before it they have the apartment already remodeled. I thought for the longest time that Dixie Carter was in the first half and then it switched to Mary Anne Mobley, until recently I saw it again. In the episode guide it says that it is a season opener, so why is it in the middle of the last season.

I remember when it first aired. ABC had it weeks after the show premired on ABC. It was not aired according to the way it was videotaped.
