For a straight male, I have a pretty refined sense of Gaydar. It can lock on to flamers seven miles away. But seriously, was he gay? I mean the actor AND the character? I just got the vibes from him.
I mean, look the guy is a HOUSEKEEPER. He is SINGLE. He moves in with a family and befriends a YOUNG BOY.
Hewett died single, did he not?
I also think I seen a picture of him in drag. Not kidding.
So what's the closet status of this fine actor? (BTW, I don't have any problems with his orientation, Im just curious. MR BELVEDERE RULES!!!!!!!!)

A hell of a ridiculous thing to wonder, but if you're serious, no, the character was NOT gay, he married in the final episode (to a woman). As far as Mr. Hewett the man, who knows, but more importantly, who cares. He will always be a big lovable uncle type I will never forget, fleshing out one of the most memorable characters in tv history. So how bout letting this dumb subject drop and letting the man R.I.P. (especially the sick and stupid comment about Wesley).

Hi "Pudding Boy"
You write: "I mean, look the guy is a HOUSEKEEPER. He is SINGLE. He moves in with a family and befriends a YOUNG BOY"
Mr. Belvedere did not befriend Wesley! He was annoyed with him throughout most of the show. Also, there's an episode where he dates Wesley's teacher...please pay more attention next time...preferably with your brain and not your gaydar.

[Reply] No, you don't have any problems with his orientation, you just think gay people are child molesters. Do you live in Fred Phelps' basement or something?
[PB]So what's the closet status of this fine actor? ... Hewett died single, did he not? ... I also think I seen a picture of him in drag. Not kidding.
[Reply] Yes, all male actors who wear dresses
are gay... Nipsy Russel, Milton Berle, Bob Ueker. Also, all single men are gay, as well as all men who don't drive forklifts for a living like you.
You "seen" him in a dress on an episode of Mr. B in which he and George go undercover, or in the 1968 movie "The Producers", in which his (gay) character is in a dress for a costume ball.
His "closet status" is that he was an accomplished British stage actor who created a character for American TV that wasn't Butch enough for hicks to enjoy without thinking about the character's sexuality, the actor's sexuality, and who are unable to separate the two.
As for C.H., my guess is he probably was gay, but if you think that you concluded that first because he played a character on TV that was in a sterotypical female job and was close friends with a male child, well you go ahead and believe you have highly refined gaydar.
Now I'm off to water my ficus plants, oggle the boys playing in the park, and pick out some pink pumps on my way to the hair dresser. And what did I do with that Ricky Martin CD...?
