To be honest, i never realized Judy was no longer on the show because she was not used that often and didn't really have a lot of lines. So it never stood out she was gone. I think the producers felt that since she had such a small role that no none would notice she was gone. This question is only for someone who watched Family Matters during the start of the 1993-94 season, how long did it take you to realize Judy was gone?

I dunno but I hardly ever noticed her in episodes. Even though I always watched the show, I do not think the word Judy was hardly ever heard by my two nice ears.

When she stopped appearing in the credits, I figured it out.

I Usually pick up own Missing Characters soon...Like Chuck Cunningham. I Just never really thought about Judy. She just wasnt important at all and i assumed she was in the other room or something. I Feel Kinda dumb now

That's the same thing I said. I wouldn't have noticed Judy missing either. Judy being removed was news to me because I started college in the fall of 93 and no longer was interested in Family Matters. I didn't find out until 1999 when the show ended.

I watched Family Matters every Friday night from 1989 to 1998, and I noticed that both Judy and Rachel were both missing from the credits when I watched the season premire in the fall of 1993. But you will notice in the season prior to that, season 4, Judy only appears in a handful of episodes. Rachel also only appears in certain episodes in season 4 and she is only in the credits of the episodes she's in.

I notice immediately that she was missing! One because she was hardly use and that kind of bothered me because they kept adding new characters but never fully developed her! Now was was Richie kept when his mother wasn't on the show!!??? The Richie character knocked her out IMO! If I were in charge of that show I would have made Judy a little smart aleck sidekick to Urkel where she would help him just enough not to get her hands dirty and be a little bit of a snitch in a coy manner!

Waldo and Maxine can go to Bellevue Mental Ward!!!

I didn't notice til I watching repeats on TBS and WGN back in 2000 and saw somewhere that Judy left the show. LOL!!!

If I noticed anything, it would have been Jaimee Foxworth's absence from the opening credits.

Because I was only 6 or 7 in the early 90's I never really thought Judy was gone, I always thought Myra was Judy but as I got older I thought Judy wouldn't fall in love with Urkle. Then me and my sister watched the reruns around the 6th season and I saw Judy in the credits and then I watched the new episode that night and I asked my sister what happened to her and she said she didn't know so I was very confused! LOL

I noticed it immediately. It bugged me, because I liked her character, and didn't understand why she wasn't given a larger role. Seems like her disappearance was similar to the first Morgan on Boy Meets World (except that Judy wasn't replaced by another actress, of course) - one week she's part of the family - the next she's gone - an no one knows why...

From the opening credits, it was kind of hard NOT to notice.

Once you think about it, it was kind of odd that they gave Judy such a small roll, got rid of her, and then added so many other characters.

I think if Steve was never added to the show, Judy might have never left. Recall that Steve wasn't in the first several episodes, and the first time he was ever on the show was just supposed to be a one time thing. But Jaleel White did such a great job playing a nerd who was helplessly in love with Laura that they kept asking him to come back to do episodes, eventually making him a full time cast member.

(I don't think Steve was originally a next door neighbor of the Winslow's either.)

The writers could have added more depth to Judy's character but they never even tried. She never had a chance. How can you possibly add depth to a character that has only a couple speaking lines per episode?

The producers probably figured no one would notice since she didn;t have that many speaking parts. I didn;t know notice-LOL

I didn't notice for a long time either. When the show was originally on ABC I never really saw her, when I started watching the show in reruns I saw her there but I didn't know who she was. I thought that she was Rachel's daughter at first since she would be with Richie sometimes. Then in the second episode I heard Harriet mention her three kids-Eddie,Laura, and Judy. At that point I was very confused, so I went on the internet and read about her character. Apparantly what happened, according to the producer of the show, it was a budget concern, they didn't want to pay her when her character was never on the show. So they got rid of her.

Yeah her role was so limited that they had no choice but to let her go.

I noticed it right away because I was waiting to see if Judy was going get a chance to shine more but then she just disappeared. At the time I found it strange that they acted like she never existed as Carl and Harriette would say from season 5 on that they have two wonderful children.

I don't pay a lot of attention to children characters on sitcoms so that's one of the main reasons I never knew she left the show until I came to this board-lol Let's face it, A 18 year old male is not going to be that concerned about the kids on a Family sitcom. Just the characters he relates to like Laura, Eddie, and Waldo

True, my only beef was that they did not explain what happened to her and they just acted like she was never apart of the cast. Whether you cared for Judy or not I think they should have at least explained just for continuity purposes. How hard is it to say that Judy was accepted to a special school in New York or whatever but to have her there in the first four seasons and then wiped out of existence in the rest of the seasons is just bizarre.

But it would have been difficult to explain the absence of a child. If she was over 18 then yes but what could the have said to explain Judy's absence? Of Course it wouldn't be that she died or was missing so they just decided to move on like she was never there. And I honestly don't think i was that hard to do because her role on the show the first 4 seasons was very small.

You have a point, and when you think about it what else could they have done with the Judy character? She could not really hang out with Laura, Steve, Max, Eddie or Waldo. And then the other situations revolved around Harriette, Carl, Mother Winslow and Rachel. Also did you find it bizarre that they got rid of Judy but kept Richie when his mother was no longer on the show?

I noticed right away they got rid of her I remember her last part in the show at the end of season 4 last show for the season 4 she gets sent to her only to never be seen again.

They could have said she ran away since no one seemed to pay any attention to her except Harriette(how ever it is spelled).

Your right they did add more characters to the show instead of giving her a bigger part in the show.

They added

Maxine
Waldo
Weasel
Kept Richie

Also what ever happen to Eddie's friend Rodney who was in love with Rachael?

Also Jaleel White became a writer for the show

things Jaleel White did on tv and notice where it says he was a writer for Family Matters, would explain why the show revolved around him and all the characters he did or all the episodes about him.

http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet/PersonDetail/personid-6408

That would also explain why the first harriette left the show, she said in an interview once the reason why she left is because no one listened to her ideas and that the show turned in to a Steve Urkle show instead of what the show was really about the Winslows and the fact that alot of orginial characters were not shown anymore or let go.

Was it really necessary for Jaleel White to play all the characters he did? He played

Steve Urkle
Stephan Urkel`
Mertle Urkle
His bad cousin from Detriot(yes the Winslows also had a cousin named clarance from Detriot who was bad). Couldn't they have made Steve's the cousin from somewhere else?
Elvis Presley
Bruce Lee

You always seem to have the answer to everything huh? Why wouldn't running away have worked? Kids do it every single day and are not found, if it can happen in real life on a daily bases why couldn't it have happened on tv?

I remember watching the show growning up and never really noticed she was gone either until the later seasons and more so in reruns. I do remember thinking when i orginally saw the show that she was Rachel's daughter. It wasn't until reruns I learned she was Carl and Harrietts daughter.

The youngest children on shows seem to get the least attention. Judy on Family Matters, Brendan on Step By Step, Morgan on Boy Meets World.
