The ultimate question is: why was "Beaver" nicknamed "Beaver". Does anyone know???

I'm not sure why they called him the beaver but, his name on the show was Theodore Cleaver

I belive Wally had trouble pronouncing theodore, so for some strange reason they called him Beaver

bosco is correct, i remember beaver had a new teacher over for dinner, and she asked him why he was called beaver..it was because wally had a hard time pronouncing it when beaver was born

In the last episode, "Family Scarpbook" Ward and June discuss with Wally and Beaver how Wally could not pronounce Theodore. that it came out "Tweedore" this aparently sounded enough like Beaver that Ward and June started calling him Beaver. There's a bunch more information like this at:
