Why was Beaver on Leave it to Beaver nicknamed "Beaver"?

When wally was younger (like when beaver was just born) wally couldnt pronounce Theadore, it came out sounding like beaverdore or something...thats how he got it, i forget which episode beaver explains that to a teacher

I thought it sounded more like "Teweeder" or whatever :confused:

Actually, yes it was "Tweeder". Ward explains it to Wally in the last episode, the "scrapbook", Wally asked and Ward told him that they decided on Beaver because they thought it sounded better.
