LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Former child star Adam Rich was formally charged with driving under the influence this week after a December incident in which he allegedly came close to hitting a police vehicle with his car.
Rich, 34, was charged with DUI Tuesday (Feb. 18) and will be arraigned Thursday on the charge, the AP reports. The former "Eight Is Enough" star was arrested Dec. 18 when, according to police, he drove into a closed lane of Interstate 10 and almost hit a California Highway Patrol car.
Police say Rich failed a field sobriety test and that officers smelled marijuana inside Rich's car. A search of the vehicle turned up no drugs.
A formal charge wasn't filed until this week because prosecutors were awaiting the results of chemical analysis in Rich's case.
Rich has had trouble with drugs in the past, entering the Betty Ford Center in 1988 to treat a cocaine addiction and serving a court-ordered stint in rehab four years later after pleading no contest to burglary and drug charges. After his arrest, he told reporters he'd been sober since then.
