Was it low ratings???
OR was it something I heard from someone.. John Stamos refused to do a 9th season?

I don't know why it was cancelled, but it wasn't because of ratings. It was in the top 25 in it's last season.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the cancellation came as a shock to everyone who worked on the show, and no one really knew about it until the last minute.

Aww.... poor them! .. But how was the finale? I didnt catch it? Was it a "our show ran 8 years so we're gonna have a memorable finale" or was it a "regular episode"

It just got old. The kids all grew up, the actors wanted to move on. I beleive it was a mutual understanding betweek the stars and ABC. It did have a finale but it wasnt great. Michele got amnesia after falling off a horse and the whole thing was about her remembering again. It was an hour long ep. The ep had to be retaped to be used as a series finale, the creators wanted a 9th season. ABC and John Stamos didnt want to commit. The new network on the block at the time, "The WB", tried to pick up the show but without John Stamos signing on the deal fell through.

DJ, Stephanie and Michelle were too old; they weren't really that vital to the show anymore. Joey, Jesse, Becky and Danny turned into the only real stars, and although they're great together, it would be silly to keep FULL HOUSE going with just these four stars.
I remember reading in the paper that the show got too expensive to produce, but I don't think that's the whole, if real, story.

I miss this show totally. I am from australia and it aired here for YEARS and repeats even aired and I loved watching those, now its never on and any channel at all and I miss it. :( I wish it would come back, I might find someone with the tapes and just trade or buy them. I miss them too much. I grew up totally with this show.

"Full House" was doing quite well the last year it was on, but remember ABC had always paired it with "Roseanne" or "America's Funniest Home Videos." The show was ready for 9th year, and it was rumored to be moved back to it's old TGIF time period, but yes, it's true, John Stamos didn't want to continue due to the fact that he might be stigmatized as Jesse--hello?? He was on the show for 8 years, I think he was forever associated with the Jesse character like one year into the show, but nonetheless, the "Last" episode was really the season finale, as the cast didn't know the show was cancelled at the time it was taped. Michelle went horseback riding, falls off the horse and hits her noggin and loses her memory. Everyone in the family, including Kimmy, reminisce with Michelle about some of the wackier moments in the house (done through flashbacks)....She does regain her memory, and at the end of the show , there was a message on the screen--something to the effect of "Lots of love from our family to yours"---and that was the end.

I can imagine why he would want to leave, I'm sure he didn't want to typecasted as Jesse, the rest of his acting career.
I thought the series finale was a bit odd, Michelle getting amnesia and forgetting everything, she didn't even know who she was and who her family was, it seemed like it wasn't a 'happily ever after' ending.
I was surprised Danny didn't re-marry, I always thought Danny should've married Vicki, they were meant for each other, but instead they had to go their seperate ways.

As much as I love Danny & Vikki together, the episode where they part adds some great emotional depth to FH. As great as it would be for Vikki to stay and marry him, the fact that they split up yet remain friends only makes the show that much stronger.
Other sitcoms would've just gone the easy route.

Full House was cancelled because by the Fall of 1995, the sappy family comedies with the moral at the end, the song lyrics, moppy music playing and a big hug at the end, had had their day. I am surprised it lasted as long as it did, because it seemed by 1992 all these shows were gone.

actually, full house was one of the first sappy family with a moral at the end shows.. lol. And it didnt end after all the other shows end, because the 90's were full of family shows. Step By Step and Family Matters lasted till 1998....

i found out that it was cancelled because ABC wanted to be hipper, and so they wanted to cut down on their family shows. Not a great deal, cuz its went downhill ever since (I found out on Driven : Olsen Twins)

I saw it last month on WB11's "Full Day of Full House" marathon. On our final trivia question before the commercial, "Which cast member decided to leave the show after eight seasons, causing the unexpected end to the 'Full House' series?" After the commercial, the answer was "The 'Full House' series was supposed to come back for year 9 (possibly the 9th season)... But John Stamos called it quits (except for Mary-Kate & Ashley which they both left the show), so the creators of the show had to make the two-part season finale of year 8 (which was the 8th season)... Into the finale." That's why the show was canceled.

That's EXACTLY why it ended. ABC had already cancelled it, and WB was wanting to pick it up, when John Stamos declined to return, ABC had to reshoot the finale and make it a series finale.
ABC cancelled it I'm sure because of low ratings. When it was on Tuesday Night, it had to have a much higher standard because a heck of a lot more people watch TV on Tuesday than Friday Night... thus, viewership will be higher.

They should have had the last show with Jesse, Becky, and the boys finally moving out of the house.

Full House was cancelled because abc cancelled becuase John Stamos' contract was up and also the Olsen Twins contract was up and they we're only willing to resign 1 Olsen Twin. The WB Network did pick up the show because they already owned the rights to the show but did not air any of the two episodes that were shot for the show because John Stamos quit after filming 2 episodes, he was not under contract and was on an episode to episdoe basis at that time after abc dropped the show. WB then refilmed the finale to air on abc and end the show the second time it sired in the Summer of 1995, actually in August is when they put the goodbye text on the show, but the episode was the same both times it aired in May and August of 1995, b/c it was the end of Full House on abc, but the ggodbye at the end only aired in August 1995. Steve Harvey replaced Full House on the WB Network and the 2 filmed episodes never aired.
I got this information from the Sun Newspaper back in September 1995 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Makes me wonder what these "two" unaired episodes were about. Do you think if there were to be any future DVD releases, these episodes would appear? Would be cool!! :D

The series had been on for 8 years and had run its course, it was a mutual decision between network and producers. It was time for it to go.

thats not true because he didn't marry Rebecca Romanj-Stamos for some 5 years AFTER "Full House" was canceled.
