Nate - don't do yourself a discredit, mate.
I'm gay and I know I'm not going to hell. The Bible may say that homosexuality is a sin but I don't live my life by the teachings of the Bible - I'm not a religious person. I have lived my life the way I have felt is right and I've never intentionally harmed or hurt another human being. I'm not a bad person and I'm not going to hell simply for being gay. And neither are you.
Hold your head up high, mate - being bi/gay is nothing to be ashamed of.

I Dont go to Church but i feel i will still get in. I Do believe in God and Pray every day, But what i dont believe in is religion. The way i see it is if you pick a religion it basically means your against the other religions (Not in a War kind of way, But differnces in beliefs). Its best to just go by your own way and do what you honestly feel is the right thing to do. Thats My Opinion. We all do bad things but as long as we ask for forgiveness and not constantly do things you know are wrong, I Feel you have a good chance of getting into Heaven.

If I hadn't asked for forgiveness, I'd be going to hell for:
1. braking my brothers finger
2. throwing the cat across the room
3. cursing at my mother
4. getting suspended from the drama club
5. and stilling perfume from the drug store (it was cheap anyway)
but I'm a Christian, so I'm definitely going to heaven..

The way I learned it in Vedic books is that your life is truly over when you attain Moksha. I believe in that except I say that life is truly over when you reach a point of no suffering. Reincarnation gives you that opportunity of attaining Moksha.
I don't see it as giving up the people I love, but going on in another life and meeting new people to love. I have a very happy life and to me, that means that in my previous life, I had fulfilled all my duties as a person. And I hope to continue doing it so that I will know only happiness in my life.

So a Christian kills 500 people, is always beleiveing in God....then repents there still going to heaven? And heaven isn't a "free gift" well not in my opinion...you have to act on your beleives throughout your life....if God only judged us on beleive and not action...i don't know...it just doesn't sound right to me

No its not Ok. In a way you do have tarn it. People cant just do whatever they want despite knowing its wrong just because God will forgive them, Thats taking advantage of God. Forgiveness is meant for ple that dont mean to do things wrong or really have to. Purposely Killing someone and than asking for forgiveness is not earning it.

Exactly. I dont go around killing people and then asking God to forgive me just to prove my faith.
---
IMO, the only thing you have to do to "earn" Gods respect is to respect him and believe in him. I dont go to church.. so does that mean Im not as faithful as the next guy? I dont get why you have to go to church every Sunday to prove your faith- yes it is respectful to God and for what he did for us, he deserves it, but just because I dont go anymore doesnt mean I "lost" my faith. If anything, Im more faithful then ever.

I was thinking of this last night about the issue of heaven and hell
and I realized why it makes sense to believe in it is that, if there were no heaven and hell, that would make it a little less motivation to do good things in this life or change the bad--NOT because we're trying to "earn" our way into heaven or prevent ourselves from going to hell, but because we are trying to promote the ultimate goodness--the Kingdom of Heaven, as Jesus promised. The Kingdom of Heaven is HERE AND NOW, He says, not just pie in the sky. I believe in a "heaven" where the righteous reign in the life to come, but it has to happen here and now. As Christians (or good believers), we have to tend to the suffering and injustice in our world NOW.
Hell comes in the rejection of the ultimate good.

I know I'm going to heaven and there is no other place I'd rather be. Actually my minister told me that a chruch isn't a building it's the memebers (people) see you can hold chruch anywhere but it's the people that make it chruch. So technically you can have chruch at home it's just that god wants you to do it with a group of people and a minister incase you have questions and not sure about things they can help you answer them.

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

IMO, when we die we go to another world like ours i guess, but without the people who are currently living in this world. Does that make sense? Either that or we die, and are re-born into the other world instead of as we were when we died. This is one of those questions that keeps floating around in my brain. Frankly, i'm so paranoid about thinking about my last breath it's creepy. I try to put it out of my mind, but it lingers on. It's one of those puzzling mysteries that we don't find out until we do die. Anyone wanna break out the ouija board and find out now?

Sorry, but I dont "smoke" anything except the BBQ. Like I said, I didnt mean sin such as crimes, etc. I meant sins what really over religious people consider sins SUCH AS: Jerry Springer, Eminem, Sopranos, black nail polish, blue hair, etc. I might not necessarily like all of those things, but a lot of people do and if we all had to dress the same in white it would be a very boring life... We're born as individuals and are supposed to express it. Perfect is boring, IMO.

Sins I mean by things we dont consider "bad" like certain movies, TV shows, or clothes not crimes etc.
You have a point there. As a screenwriter, I know that you can't have a story without CONFLICT.
The reason why God made man to have clothes is because He wants us to wonder what everyone else is hiding underneath...;)

I agree. It's a shame that people don't act like what they believe. I find it ironic that priests who are supposed to be religious molest children. I think religion is evil. I think that people who aren't religious are actually nicer. I wish that the world was perfect, although it never will be as long as we have idiots like George Bush and Saddam Hussein in the world. If aleins exist, I hope they come and save us soon before this world goes down into a hell-hole from all this war, disease, starvation and all the other bad things that go on in the planet Earth. :(

I agree with Crystal. can you imagine presidential debates?
Gore: I say that people should vote for me.
Bush: I totally agree.
Gore: Yes, I do too.
Kind of a dumb example, but we need temptation in this world. Anyone ever read 'Gulliver's Travels' by Johnathan Swift? Remember when he went to Houyhnhnmland and saw their perfect society? Sure it was just and fair, but they expressed no emotion whatsoever. Death was nothing. They traded children because each family should have one boy and one girl. There are no arguements whatsover, and it's the smae thing everyday, day in and day out. Would you like to live in a perfect society such as that?

all I have to say is if the world was Perfect I"d be VERY BORED I mean I"m considered a Good girl but all of my Friends ARENT opposites attract so when it comes to FRIENDS ATLEAST all of them are opposite me (Men on the other hand I like sweet, romantic, caring types)anyways so if we lived in a world that was perfect My life would suck HECK I probably wouldnt get along with my own family if the world was perfect

Religion has caused a lot of evil things in this world, but just remember atheistic communism, i.e., Stalinist Soviet Union, caused a lot of evil against religious people.

There are a few confusing things to do with heaven and hell. I think to get into 'Heaven' you must first live a good life, respecting others, and second, you must ask forgiveness. It has nothing to do with religion, it isn't your fault if a religion is forced on you by family or government, or you choose it, it's the fact you believe in something else. The asking forgiveness probably doesn't work if you keep getting forgiven, then do it again and again. The good life thing, that is complicated, for all we know- Hitler could be in heaven, he practised his religion alot openly, and after all, some humans just can't help it. So it is confusing about the concept. Maybe there's ceratin levels in heaven

What if we already all died and this is hell? I came up with this theory awhile ago and I just said it as a joke, but what if it's true? Anyway, I believe that I am going to Heaven because, while I have sinned, it's been nothing major and while I don't like going to church I still consider myself a religious person.

hmmm,I don't know what to think, because,I'm not sure that I believe in heaven or hell.I do believe in God as our creator and I do believe in some type of afterlife, that we probably all go to,that's not a punishment for any of us.I don't believe that God punishes us by condemning us to hell.I think everyone's fate after death is the same.I hope that made sense.:)

Actually god does punish us when we sin because if he didn't we'd all be sinning all the time like it was a regular ok thing to do. I mean like for example if you take your parents car out for a drive without asking your going to get punished so you realize that it was wrong and so hopfully you won't do it again. Also some people do go to hell I mean if you don't love and believe in god and try to follow the commandents or read the bible then yes your going to go to hell that is the punishment god made for unbelievers.

What about religions that don't follow the Bible? What about the hindus and other religions? Are you saying that all of their followers are going to Hell because they don't have commandments and the Bible? What about Wiccans, who don't have a Bible but still worship a God and Goddess?
I knew someone back in high school who we nicknamed "The Reverand." He once said that "if you don't believe in the Bible and believe that Jesus was the Son of God, you're going to Hell." So he pretty much condemned every Jewish person to Hell.
I'm not saying that you're not allowed to have your beliefs, but, IMO, others are allowed to follow their own beliefs as well.

I don't like the way many people thump their Bibles and condemn everyone to hell. The important thing is to get people to EMBRACE the love of God and decide to turn to him, not scare them. I believe that God is fair, that he will give people a chance to accept, there are passages in the Bible that say those who haven't heard the Christian message will be judged on how they lived their lives, were they greedy or cruel, etc., were they kind, etc. I'm prolly not being very clear about this...

I understand what you're saying. I believe that we all worship the same god in a way. Even if we call Him or Her by different names, I believe it's all the same God/dess.

I think there is a big difference between God "punishing" people and disciplining us. Doesn't God speak to our hearts about "something bad" we are about to do? God does give us freedom of choice whether or not we want to do something that's going to hurt ourselves and others.

and I realized why it makes sense to believe in it is that, if there were no heaven and hell, that would make it a little less motivation to do good things in this life or change the bad--NOT because we're trying to "earn" our way into heaven or prevent ourselves from going to hell, but because we are trying to promote the ultimate goodness--the Kingdom of Heaven, as Jesus promised.
Usually I'm at least half way with you Captain. But this entire thread goes against my grain. I don't know if there is such a thing as heaven/hell and I don't care one way or the other. What disturbs me is that Christians think that they have an exclusive claim on any possible heaven that might exist. I don't need to be motivated to do good in the world. I don't need the threat of hell to make me act right. I don't need Christianity to teach me right from wrong. Im a good person without any of those issues for motivation. So, if there turns out to be a heaven, I am absolutely certain that I'll be there--having had faith or not during my time on earth.

That's what I like about you, KF, you have that little way to make me step back and ask questions!!:D I think I may have had a kind of "theoretical" way of looking at the question of heaven and hell when I was thinking about it the other night, the "why we should believe in it" sort of thing. I did read a quote by Gandhi where he said that a religion that people only follow based on promises of rewards in heaven or the threats of punishment in hell is not much of a religion. I know that sounds like I'm backtracking but I
guess what I meant to say is, yes, as a Christian, I/we believe in something "beyond this life"--on the one hand, we don't do good things for ulterior motives (like the parent who says if you behave, we'll take you to Disneyland, if you don't you'll stay in the garage all summer), but on the other hand, if there is no "incentive" or motivation, then there almost didn't seem to be much of a point to doing good. That was one way I was looking at it.
I think of course, we should all realize that doing good is its own reward. I think in that way, that is what Jesus meant by spreading the Kingdom of God on this earth. Can a "pagan" do this? I think so.
I know, I sound confusing...

Okay, now I'm seeing I quoted something you said you didn't agree with, in my above post about being "motivated" to do good.
Now I'm thinking...when we come right down to it, ARE we as Christians, religious/spiritual people, etc., REALLY motivated by
the thought of heaven when we do good?? We DO GOOD BECAUSE IT'S GOOD!! Gee, we make heaven almost sound like Multi-Level Marketing like Amway...
This should go without saying but I'll say it anyway just in case. I do know that many Christian people, as well as non-Christians, do good for it's own sake. And Heaven and hell are not motivating factors. But as you can see by what some have written in this thread, some Christians think that if it weren't for the carrot of Heaven, and the dread of hell they'd be less than outstanding human beings - what, with no reward and all.

No I don't enjoy being told that. Just because I don't believe them doesn't mean that I have the skin of an elephant. It's irritating to be told that. It's bad enough to be told that without having to defend my own feelings on top of it. I don't care if people talk about religion but I don't like being told that I'm going to hell. I read something interesting a while ago in the Humanist magazine (what??!!! Me reading that??!!! I oughta be burned at the stake!!! ) that the young man who was booted out of the Boy Scouts for being an atheist was told that, "if an atheist found a wallet, he would steal the money out of it while a believer would return it to the owner..." THEY WOULD??? That was the Boy Scouts' reason for requiring for believing in God, a person who doesn't believe "is greedy and thieving..."

I don't think anyone likes being told they're going to hell. I don't believe in the "hellfire and brimstone" method of "conversion". I remember several years ago when a Pastor's Kid (and a real punk, too:mad: ) got baptized, when he was asked what the best part of being a Christian was, he said, "the fact that he wasn't going to hell"...
IS THAT REAAAAALLLY THE BEST REASON?????
You'd think it would be something of more spiritual import than
