Do you think they'll make it in the ratings? With American Idol getting 26 million viewers will 8 Simple Rules survive?

They will, especially with the Three's Company episode coming. American Idol is not going to put the premiere numbers every Tuesday.

8SR will rank 2nd in it's timeslot this week, because JAG is a rerun. Every other week it'll rank 3rd. I don't really think that it'll drop it ratings tooo bad. The only problem is that most of 8SR's viewers are teens, and will they watch AI instead? I don't think that the TC thing is actually going to boost it at all, but it'll do fine because JAG is a rerun this week. The show WILL however start losing some viewers when the final 10 AI contestants start competing.

Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but if AI does half as good as it usually does, it will still beat 8SR. I'm not trying to be mean, but let's face reality here. Besides, having so/so ratings doesn't mean there aren't people out there who don't enjoy the show so ratings mean as much as those stupid Emmys do.

Emmys don't really mean a thing, but they're just a form of award given to shows for their performances during it's season. They don't matter. Ratings do. A show can get cancelled because of ratings. They can change anything, and it's the only thing that the networks really care about. 8SR's ratings have been quite good overall, but not that great. I must disagree about a 6-8 year run for this series, although it will suceed for 2 or 3 more years. At the moment, 8SR will be safe, but once the final contestants of AI are chosen, 8SR will probably struggle. Let me put it this way. 8SR is usually #2 in it's 18-49 range. However, AI is always #1 of the entire night, and #1 in it's timeslot for everything. AI is almost like a creeping virus that destroys shows. If the show didn't have teen characters, and John Ritter hasn't been in it, the show would've probably failed. But with a nice ensemble cast as a whole, it attracts viewers nicely. But the question is: Do audiences like the ensemble of American Idol (the contestants and judges) better than 8SR? 8SR will rank #3 in it's timeslot every single airing with AI against it..with the exception of tonight's episode which will rank at #2 because of a JAG rerun. I know that this doesn't have much to do with 8SR in general, but I'm on a roll here! If AI was against let's say Judging Amy and NYPD Blue, neither of those shows would be effected. Why? Other than myself who's a huge Judging Amy fan, not many teens why those two dramas, which means that AI could not steal the older audiences that watch those two shows. Now back to 8SR. ABC did an excellent job creating a solid Tuesday line-up. But ABC is also a baaaaaad network. You'll see. ABC has created a Monday line-up to die for. Yes...you'd rather die than watch it. Every show there is going to get cancelled, except for The Practice. ABC doesn't know what to do with a mid-season show for the life of the. That means that reruns and new shows will have to resume timeslots the next season. That means that schedules will be screwed up, and things will be changed around. 8SR will most likely stay in it's timeslot with Jim by it's side, but I see LWB and LTP moving to different timeslots. I also see NBC turning Tuesday into something mcuh more. Possibly even a night of good drama. Hopefully this will not occur, but you never know. Look what happened to the hit known as Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. All I can say is good luck 8SR, and stay away from those timeslot guys who switch things around! Unfortunely, ABC doesn't treat anything with TLC. In 20 years, Sitcoms will be ancient, and reality shows will rule the timeslots. Is that good? Well...let's just say that 7 nights full of Emeril sounds better. Good luck my friends!

Let's just hope for the best. I can't stand American Idol but I do hope 8 Simple Rules does win the timeslot against them.

It's going to be interesting for the 8 p.m. half hour--two way race tonight, since JAG is a rerun. I think 8 Simple Rules will come out on top for the 8 p.m. half hour, while American Idol will take the 8 p.m. hour overall and win the 8:30 p.m. half hour. 8 Simple Rules is clearly the best new sitcom that can pull ratings without a lead-in (Still Standing...).

It'll be for the 8:00 timeslot:

#1: American Idol
#2: 8SR
#3: JAG
#4: Dateline

Overall ratings do not mean anything really, last week's 8SR ratings against 'Idol':

“8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter” was Tuesday night’s most-watched comedy (11.2 million) and placed second in its half-hour to “American Idol” in all key adult demos: Adults 18-34 (3.1/8), Adults 18-49 (4.0/10) and Adults 25-54 (4.7/11).
· Opposite the premiere of “American Idol,” “8 Simple Rules” equaled its second-highest Teen 12-17 rating (4.1/11) ever, tying its best delivery since its debut episode in September (9/17/02).

Even though I think 8SR will win overall tonight for the 8 pm HALF HOUR.

#2: JAG 8.3/12
#3: 8SR 7.1/11
#4: In-Laws 6.4/9
#5: Gilmore Girls 4.9/7
#6: Buffy 2.4/4

Maybe to you overall ratings don't mean anything but believe me, they do. What I meant when I said ratings don't mean much was as long as the show can entertain one person, then it's done it's job. This show isn't here to change the face of television and I'm pretty sure it will fall into the same category as "Step by Step", "Full House", and "Family Matters" in a few years. So let's just stop taking it so seriously and enjoy it while it's here.

Ratings don't mean a thing to the normal average family, but they do mean in a large thing technically. Last night's ratings for 8SR were quite good for being in 3rd place...it'll rank in the top 30 for sure. I don't hate the show or love the show, I have mixed feelings about it. But you really have to wonder things. The writers seem to be running out of ideas. Last night's episode may have been good, but isn't it a bit easy to come up with something like that? I'd really like to see some episodes about Paul and Kate, rather the children. I find them to be interesting, but the children obnoxious. If the show had Paul and Cate as two single people falling in love after both being divorced, then I would be tuning in all the time. As it stands, Paul and Cate are now supporting characters for sure. It's all centered around the children now, and I'm getting a bit tired of it. This show is an example of mediocre at it's best. Just another typical, average family comedy.

If you look at the ratings overall, last night was a pretty busy night. In-Laws didn't even do that horrible. I'm surprised that they actually went along and aired it. And why again am I talking about In-Laws on the 8SR boards? Don't ask me...lol

Those are not overnights. Those are Fast Nationals. 8SR was NOT #3 for the 8 p.m. half hour, it was #2, JAG was #2 for the 8pm HOUR, 7.1/11 was 8SR and Jim combined, not 8SR. Also, NBC aired Dateline, zap2it needs to get its facts straight. I'll post the overnights, fast nationals, and viewers 18-49 for last night when I get a chance.

OMG, no one cares about the ratings! Let's just enjoy this show and stop worrying about how well it does against some silly talent show.

But, see that's the problem. Everyone is taking this show too seriously. It's going to get cancelled anyway. Every show comes to an end sometime. This show will probably not beat AI and it probably won't ever be number one for the week or ever be nominated or win an Emmy. And that's fine. It doesn't mean that this show isn't entertaining. Just enjoy the view.

Tonight will be VERY interesting. This will tell if 8SR can beat out an NBC that DOES get good ratings. What are my predictions? From highest to lowest in the 8-830 slot:

#1: American Idol
#2: JAG
#3: 8 Simple Rules...
#4: Fear Factor
#5: Gilmore Girls
#6: Buffy The Vampire Slayer

AI and JAG are guaranteed the top 2, but 8 Simple Rules and Fear Factor will fight it out to see who wins. I think that CBS will come out at #1 overall for the night, with Fox #2, ABC #3, NBC #4.

8 Simple Rules is actually doing extremely well even though its like around thenumber #30 position..

ABC isnt doing great with its shows right now.. I mean a show in the 40-50 rankings is good for them..

But 8 Simple Rules is the top ABC show, besides the Bachelorette... it's beating According to Jim and My Wife and Kids!

But is NBC making 8:00 hour the new permanent Fear Factor timeslot?

hey guys....ratings do count and everything but why worry about it now? the show just started and it's doing really well, considering alot of people watch it AND it won the people's choice award. i know alot of people who watch 8SR b4 AI. And usually, 8SR is within the top 5 for ratings so i don't think we have anything to worry about right now...but let's just hope for the best! i think 8SR can probably go for another 2 or 3 seasons...but it's not really built around a plot that can be expanded alot..they need something different and really exciting to happen, like the upcoming Drummer Boy Part II, where Bridget drives to Ohio. i think that episode could put up a fair fight for the ratings against AI!!! so let's not worry too much! it's not gonna get cancelled for at least a couple of years!:talk:

No it's just a special tonight. NBC has other specials scheduled for the rest of this month on Tuesday: Three Stooges, Bloopers, and a Game Show special.
